You know what I think would work, if she went away, seriously. She needs to be really private, quiet and out of the spotlight, So people start to say 'Whatever happened to Britney Spears', then when she makes a comeback it's like she's actually been away rather than just I dunno, in the next room.

At this point, the best she (and we) can hope for is that she doesn't embarass herself further. I really hope she isn't doing this.

If it were just a matter of her career having taken a nosedive, it might help to get some exposure. But she's so OVER exposed with so many other problems, that her appearing would be annoyingly pathetic. She just hasn't figured out that she needs to disappear for awhile.

IF she gets to perform, I'm sure it will bring her even lower. There is no way she has the body, brains,talent, class, or professional support left to pull off a first-rate performance. They may let her do it, but only to generate press for the VMAs after she comes off looking sad and pathetic . . . again.

No. They only invited her to boost ratings. People will tune in to laugh at her and hopefully see her fail. It is their way to try and get viewers.

I went with the third choice... maybe if she really pulled off something huge, she could do it...MAYBE---but most of me doesnt think so.

I think if her publicists do it right she can. She needs to go on Oprah or Tyra and 'confess' all her secrets(with out gum in her mouth) and tell her sad story about how she hit rock bottom and through the grace of god has realized what's really important in life and so on and so on. She also needs to stop being seen out super late at night and take a shower. Maybe put on some cute Ann Taylor outfit or something. Then she needs to do her performance and 'wow' everyone. America loves a sob story.

if she does a seriously good performance with a gr8 dance then it wouldnt exactly harm her carreer. but shel have to do a really good job, and not some boring prostitute dance that loads of people do these days because they cant actually dance. and i hope she does a good song as well. and takes her wig off. i hope she'll go back to a blonde. kylie looks gorgeous with short blonde hair, britney should go for that kind of look.

She looked so uncomfortable on stage in the House of Blues shows, after weeks of rehearsing. So the chances of her giving a solid performance in three weeks seems pretty slim.

She'll probably just lip-sync anyway! Ever since the Ashlee fiasco, people have wisened up, and no one respects someone who (obviously) isn't really singing.

Swwonder, I totally agree! In order to come back, you must first go away. LOL. And I don't think one performance is going to make one bit of difference. There has been talk of her working again for so long, and then nothing ever comes of it. It's kind of like the boy who cried wolf...I just don't believe it anymore. Nor, at this point, do I care. Bleh.

The House of Blues is not even in the same league as the VMAs - it's a huge production. While Britney could create another disaster out of it, hopefully she'd take the VMAs seriously, step it up and be a PROFESSIONAL this time.

I answered "MAYBE" because as messed up as she is, I think anyone can turn their life around if they really want to...and it seems cruel to be written off forever as a screw-up (even if she is a high-ranking member of the celebrity screw-up club).

Oh God, I hope she doesn't perform at the awards. This whole Britney thing is starting to feel like the world's longest slow motion car crash sequence, and every time you think the climactic explosion is about to happen it does another bounce and a roll and a skid... I would hate for the explosion to happen on live tv broadcast around the world, but it just doesn't seem possible that she could pull off this kind of an appearance. It would certainly pull in the viewers though, so I can see why MTV would want it, but it just seems wrong. And cruel.

i hate to sound mean about a person with obvious mental health issues, but i don't think there is a good performance in brit at this point. poor thing should try and calm down, get off whatever she's using and get some therapy. in 10 years 1 award show won't make a difference to her and she needs some professional help.

i thought it was really sad that that guy was trying to distance himself from her, as if she would be damaging to him somehow if they were involved. sad all around.

Americans love people when people comeback from beyond the brink, we also relish stories where the underdog comes out on top or even stories of celebrities that find redemption look at people who have had other issues (Robert Downey Jr. and drugs, Rob Lowe and the sex tape back in the 80's, Roman Polanski, someone who was convicted of rape and fled to another country won a Oscar for the Pianist, Naomi Campbell and her anger management issues, even Kate Moss a few years was HATED on sites like these now look at her back to modeling and with her perfume & clothing lines, and these are just to name a few) all of my examples had problems worse than Britney's recent behavior and eventually found their way back into a favorable public light. What we must remember is that tabloids lie to sell copies (seriously did anyone EVER find Bigfoot or the UFO baby that looks like Elvis), Allure is doing the same thing. This is a magazine that has a small loyal subscription base, Right now if you go to their website they are promoting this article like it was the only press they got all year... oh wait it is. Also if you subscribe now you are guaranteed this special Britney issue. Hmm... wait a nice way for them to make some extra money and boost their subscriptions.
We must remember that Britney has been pulled in every direction 24/7 since the Mickey Mouse club, she obviously cannot rely on her family, plus she has made some awesome decisions and some not so great decisions. Right now she needs our support as a society during this time so that she can get whatever help she may need. Eventually she will come out with some single and then everyone will think she is oh so awesome again.
