Say it isn't so. Can one of our favorite Hollywood couples have really split? We know there were rumors that they had issues and they didn't look so lovey dovey at the Flags of Our Fathers premiere but we just don't want to believe that this is true. TMZ reports:
The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."
Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley.
No divorce papers have been filed yet so there is still some hope. We really want this couple to make it. We know how important family is to these two so let's hope for Deacon and Ava they can figure things out. Geez, and we were just saying what a family guy Ryan is. What a way to kick off the week.

not surprised, she admited that they had problems and were in couples counseling a while back. I knew they would break up.

16That's sad but I saw it coming. I said as much a few weeks ago right here on Popsugar and nearly got my head blown off. I'm in the business, and the rumors were coming fast and furious that it was a matter of time. I'm sincerely sorry for them.
17It's sad because of the kids and they did love each other so much in the beginning. I really hope they are able to remain friends no matter what and their children will be okay.

19I'm not going to say I knew it was going to happen, or that I saw it coming, bc I didn't. But Ryan and Reese always seemed so different to me. I thought he was still a young guy, who wasn't done being single, and Reese is a traditional mom, kind of a homebody. I thought that was maybe why they worked, bc they were so different
20Lainey at laineygossip predicted this. She said that if Flag of Our Fathers didn't do well at the box office then don't be surprised if a split is announced. I swear to you when FOOF started to tank at the box office I started checking People for the split announcement.
21I agree that it probably had something to do with the difference in their popularity and successes. Reese is America's Sweetheart. Ryan has done a few decent movies but I don't think he'd be a household name if he hadn't married her.
22In the latest pictures, neither of them were smiling. In fact, I did not know how good looking he really was until I saw him smiling on a TV show. He always looked so ticked off. This is very sad. Maybe they will figure it out before it is too late.
23I'm not shocked, but I am much sadder than I thought I would be. It is always depressing when two people who seem to really be in love one minute (back when they got married) eventually fall out of love. Why can't two pretty people just stick together and make it work? I want the fairy tale, darn it!! (Okay, I know they can't live their lives just so we can live vicariously through them, but it would be nice.)
The most important part of all of this is the fact that RYAN IS NOW AVAILABLE. Attention shoppers, there is a hottie available in Isle Two!

I never expected Reese Witherspoon to take the American Sweetheart route. I thought she would be doing edgier more interesting work, maybe because of Cruel Intentions and Freeway, but her later stuff just put me off. I really don't like the whole American Sweetheart thing. I think it dilutes a woman's talent and dumbs her down to be palpable to the masses.
Anyway, Phillipe always goes for the interesting story and hence he's not the popular. I think in the future he'll continue doing more interesting work.
They probably just grew apart.
