Yes! Owen always seems so happy and he's a great actor. That's just it though; the people you least expect are the ones that are probably the unhappiest.

if you do sort of think about it, so many comics have passed due to a drug overdose...my hubby and i were actually saying how many 'funny people' might use thier humore to cover something more serious...like sadness, depression, issues, etc...it all makes me SO SAD...i just hope he snaps out of it and realizes to 'count his blessings' (right, booksandshoes!! wink wink! )

I obviously don't know him, but it does make me very sad to know that someone else is suffering so much.

Strange thing, though, the suicide attempt reminded me of Luke's character in "Royal Tennenbaums". And the heroin/method allegations against Owen were also shared by his character in the same movie. Life imitating art, or art imitating life?

I saw him in vegas once and his brother and will farrell and some other guys were all together but owen was all alone at a table. He seemed lonely.

We all have our moments of depression. It just seemed likely that he could've afforded to seek a different means of coping with them.

of course i was shocked! you don't really expect something like this from someone who always seemed so chill.

to be honest, i was pretty sure he regularly smoked weed and probably used coke here and there, but i didn't realize it was on such a massive scale! no wonder Kate got out of that relationship!

Usually I'm not shocked by these things, but Owen definitely shocked me. He's never really in the tabloids, and he seemed very happy go lucky.

yes very shocked but if i think about it, so many "funny men" have destructive behaviors whether it be obesity alcohol or drugs...it is so sad.

Yes, he could have afforded help, but maybe he didn't want it. Or maybe it's hard to find someone to trust. These people have a very strange job that opens them up to alot of personal scrutiny. I cannot imagine the difficulty of trying to find people you can trust as confidantes. And, being a creative person, he probably has a very deep emotional side. Speculation on my part, of course.

I've met a number of famous and not so famous people when I lived in L.A. and many of them seem very uncomfortable in their own skins. It's a sad way to live.

not that I always thought Owen was happy but I never suspected drug use and this is the first i've heard of any relationship he had with Steve Coogan. this is the first i've heard of steve coogan in, like, 2 years and only then I heard of him b/c i was studying abroad in england and he's quite popular there.

anyway...i hope owen gets better and i wish that tabloid magazines would leave him alone and stop speculating...especially on what will happen with the movies he had signed on to do. uh, a little inapprop, no?

It just goes to show you how little we truly know about these stars. They have inner turmoil just like the rest of us...i guess i just never figured Owen to be a troubled sort. He has always seemed so laid-back and cool...his movies are funny. It does suck that all this media coverage has outted a bunch of sad drug-related stories about him. I would have never guessed he was into the hard drugs...a little doobie from time to time maybe...but not heroin!! Crazy world.

It's shocking and not at the same time. We see so much of celebrities, but it's impossible to know what is really going on in their heads; things like this happening are not really shocking in themselves, but compared to the side of the celebrity we usually see, can seem very much so.

I'm mostly saddened by all the news about Owen though. I've always liked him, and I hope he is getting the help he needs.

I totally agree with someone who posed earlier that we wanted privacy....leave the poor man alone....he asked for privacy and already US Weekly and People have him plastered all over the covers. I mean what does that say about their character? Let him get better and then he will come forward when he is ready. This can be a very critical time for someone in this state of mind. He doesn't need people writing and speculating about what had happened.

i was surprised at first, but when you think about the stresses of hollywood, the extreme lifestyles, the lack of privacy and the recent actions of other stars i realized i shouldn't have been. the media has so much access now and there a very few secrets, everything is public knowledge. the more horrible or shocking the story the more people want to hear about it. i'm hoping there is going to be a new trend toward moderation and getting treatment for mental health issues in an on going situation rather than a drive-by stunt.

What in the Hel*! What kind of friends are those? Owen said he didn't want his business out in the street (in so many words) until he got his self together.

Man he needs to drop those so called friends. And since they knew for so many years, did they bother to help more than once or twice? Dam* nice friends he has.

I think it is really, really awful for the tabloids to use this as front page news. It was even on CNN today. It is gross. I'm not commenting on any other posts about this topic.

Stories on it don't bother me so much, although I think the covers are tacky and involving Kate Hudson in it is gross. But I expect gossip sites to have stories, comments, discussion, etc.

Can't say I'm shocked, simply because this is hollywood and there is nothing shocking in that town. Especially the drugs, I think the majority of celebs are on crack to be honest. So sad
