Gift Idea - Holiday Mix CDs

Nov 3 2006 - 10:09am

I'm not as crafty as Miz Crispy but I decided to post my own version of a simple, but personal holiday gift. I made last year to give to the people in my office and some other friends, and they went CRAZY - the gifts were a huge hit.

I asked people I knew to lend me any holiday CDs that they had (I myself have ZERO) and downloaded some other songs, to make an eclectic mix of holiday music. I tried to get a really good combination of classics, novelty songs, rock songs, and anything else.

Here's a sampling of what I put on the CD -
"Christmastime Is Here" (from "A Charlie Brown Christmas") - Vince Guaraldi Trio
"Merry Christmas, Baby" - Elvis Presley
"Blue Christmas" - Bright Eyes
"Christmas In Hollis" - Run DMC
"Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" - Brenda Lee
"Silver Bells" - Bing Crosby
"The Hannukah Song" - Adam Sandler
"Do They Know It's Christmas" - Band Aid
"Washington Square" - Chris Isaak

...and so on. Then, I burned copies for my friends.

Next, I designed the CD insert. I found an iconic photo online of Flick from "A Christmas Story" getting his tongue stuck to the pole.

In Photoshop, I added a title at the bottom that read "Merry FLICKIN' Christmas" and then put the track listing on the back.

I printed out copies, cut them to size, and stuck them into CD jewel boxes with the CDs.

It was very simple, but very well-received. Luckily I work in a different office this year so I can re-use the mix!
