The MTV VMAs are just a few hours away and most of you are excited about Britney's comeback performance. That being said, there aren't many other big moments that we can feel coming on, and that seems to have been the case for the past few years. The VMAs were once packed with surprises, stunts and scandal, but these days it all feels very G-rated and even boring. What do you think - has the VMAs lost its edge?

I think this show has always been just more fun...I mean, it's not like the awards really count anyway, in my opinion. It's MTV!
1it's know that america is prude. with us in a tv-show you can say f*ck an sh*t 1000000 times an it won't get beeped away (the public thinks nothing of it, it's normal).

9Most of these people these days are so messed up mentally. Most of them have minimum talent. And it shows when they perform live and the studio equipment cannot help them while on the stage.
The talent in Hollywood these days is almost non-existent when it comes to the past 8 years or so. I think they need to look further through the states for real, new talent. Plus I think we all would love to see some new positive faces out there.

23MTV has lost its appeal period. I used to love MTV but I guess I grew up and saw how utterly juvenile it is, like La Belle said its catered to 12 year olds. I agree that they hardly showcase music anymore. If anything, they need to change their name to RSN-Reality Show Network. Whats even sadder is that they created MTV2 for showing more music and even THAT is packed with reality shows.

32I am hoping that since it is coming from Vegas as well as it is supposed to be taped thru-out the palms casino that maybe this year the show will be interesting just a tad bit.. if they flop this then we know MTV has totally lost its touch.. I already switched to VH1 just becouse MTV's reality shows just suck!!!

Well having a drugged up Courtney Love flailing herself all over the place was incredibly entertaining, but I'm not sure how "edgy" it was. Just sad and pathetic, really.
Personally, I think all awards shows are boring now because there are so many of them! And they all have the SAME people doing basically the SAME thing...
Boooorrrrrring! (though I confess that I can't wait to see how little miss Brit does tonight -- it may not be as good as Courtney Love flailing around, but it could be close!)

38YES!! I remember counting down the days to watch it because I was so excited. It use to be so much fun and so much scandal (hello, slave for you performance?? oh yah and the kissing in 2003). But once they changed it to Miami, it started to really suck. How the heck did it manage to get so boring?? I hope Britney knocks one out of the park tonight. I am so pumped. I can't wait
39I've never watched the whole thing. I just don't care too much. Even the stars look bored as hell sitting there. They laugh and smile at the lame jokes only when the camera switches to their face.

42I'm guessing my boredom with the MTV awards has more to do with my maturity than the shows edginess. I'm 32 now and I don't even think I could find MTV on the cable box anymore. Besides, anything truly 'shocking' will be on youtube the next day.

49mtv has taken the "v" out of "vma" now. what a shame. i read recently that fewer artists are producing videos, and most are low-budget projects intended for web-only play.
sigh... i miss the days of major videos like "thriller".
