We've been nodding our heads like yeah to our new guilty pleasure, "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus for a couple months now, but it turns out Miley's not ashamed to say she has no idea what she's singing about. In the same interview where she chatted about sharing a dress with Kim Cattrall, Miley admitted she's never even heard a Jay-Z song in her life. When asked what song inspired the line, she said,

"I don't know, I didn't write the song so I have no idea. Honestly, I picked that song cause I needed something to go with my clothing line, I didn’t write it. And it wasn’t something that, like, I even expected to be popular, originally. It was just something that I wanted to do, I needed some songs, and it turned out for the best. I've never heard a Jay-Z song. I don't listen to pop music. It's not even that style of music, [Party in the USA] even. I'm really blessed for it to have done as well as it has."
So what do you think about Miley's admission — obnoxious or honest?

How is she a country singer? Majority of her popular songs are pop. I don't believe she has never heard a Jay Z song, he has performed at the same award shows that she has been at.
1I agree with you Snookyx...
2Does she not have a publicist? Dear Lord.
3I agree with emms. Shouldn't somebody be trying to help her with what comes out of her mouth? Really.
4go away stupid b*tch.
is she this dumb?
cant stand her.
5is Jay Z even still around? Maybe she's not in his target age group? I couldn't name a Jay Z song. And if I heard one, I'd have no idea it was Jay Z.
6. . . . then again, I've never heard a song of hers either.
How can she have never heard a Jay-Z song??
Oh and she talks like she is 11, no maturity at all, someone help her keep her gob shut please.
7I don't believe she has never heard a Jay Z song.He performs at the MTV awards and even if you are not a rap fan you know Jay Z. I just find her annoying.
8i too can't name a jay-z song but most of her answers are really obnoxious.
9"I don't listen to pop music. It's not even that style of music, [Party in the USA] even." If it's not pop music then what is it? It certainly isn't country.
10Omg!

11It's ridiculoussssssssssssss
I agree on u girls, esp with Levyn87
Totally obnoxious--"I don't care what songs I put on my records. I just sing them and whatever."
12i'm tired of this ugly little b.
13what the f*ck? If she doesn't listen to pop, then does she put ear plugs ono when she's singing her songs???
sorry to any of her fans on here, but she is an ungrateful litle b*tch.
14She's a liar!! Everyone has heard of a Jay-Z song. She just got herself into some unnecessary beef by calling Jay-Z 'pop'! Maybe that's why she spewed all of that verbal diarrhea- even more publicity!
15The most obnoxious part of that quote is that she calls Jay-Z's music pop. I guess she's never heard of hip-hop/rap either. I think people with music careers should at least be aware of genres. And she's just lying to herself trying to say her music's not pop. She's trying to look harder and act like she does rock, which she attempts to explain in the rest of the annoying interview.
16how unintelligent can Miley Cyrus be until she goes away... someone needs to send her back to high school and maybe she will learn something
17How can she be considered a talented singer when A. she doesn't write her own music B. can't tell the difference between genres. JayZ does not do pop music, she does.
18OMG! She can't get more ridiculously obnoxious than this! I men seriously does she have any brain at all!
19When I first heard that line in her song, "And a Jay-Z song was on," I honestly laughed to myself thinking, "This girl has no idea who Jay-Z is and is just trying to throw his name out to be cool." I'm not surprised by her statement at all.
20And I think everyone's being a little harsh on her. Yeah, she shouldn't publicly speak about never hearing one of the most famous hip hop artists songs or calling him pop, but I am not surprised that this young teenager from Nashville has never heard one of his songs.
Something that makes me pissed is that Miley obviously doesn't sing to sing. She sings to be famous and get publicity.
21Well, I'm willing to overlook this. She's about 16 years old. She's a kid.
Personally, when I was her age, I said (and wore) the craziest things, too. I look back, and I cringe.
22they played Jay-Z on CNN after the World Series... they play him in mall stores, elevators, TV ads, ringtones... she HAS to have heard him.. and she should know better than to make outlandish statements like that.
23i can believe that she didn't write the song, but she as definitely heard a Jay-Z song
24She annoys the f*ck out of me...get her away from Hollywood she's screwing it up
25Then she should check out Jay-Z real soon. Maybe if she heard some interesting music, then she wouldn't record criz-ap like "Party in the USA."
26Hahaha agree with somethingrock--this kid needs to go back to school and get and education! Dumb, dumb, spoiled little girl.
27OH, and I also agree lamess--I REALLY can't stand that song of her's.
28I don't know. I've never heard a Jay-Z song. But I've never heard a Miley Cyrus song either.
29I live in Nashville. Miley Cyrus doesn't live here! She lives in LA. She is not a Nashvillian. Besides, Nashville is only known outside as a country music city. However, the scene is actually huge for alternative, rock, and folk rock. A ton of musicians like Jack White, Kings of Leon, Ben Folds, Emerson Hart (Tonic), etc etc. We get a ton of the up and comers that play the small venues building their name and they are promoted locally in alternative newspapers.
Sorry, but I just can't believe that Nashville is looked at as some ass-backwards country town that doesn't even know who the eff Jay-Z is. Insult the girl, not the city. The city also votes blue (very liberal area).
30wut the hell i dont believe this. she should have never said that in the first place.
31Something smells funny around here. Must be the smell of BS from Miley.
32It would be fine if she didn't know who Jay-Z was if she didn't mention him in her song! I mean wouldn't you, just out of curiousity, before you sing a song you didn't write, just pull it up on itunes and become familiar? I mean how many songs has he done with Beyonce? Has she never heard crazy in love or upgrade u or deja vu....I mean, it's just kind of ridiculous.....
33Wow, does she honestly think that's she's not a pop artist? Somebody needs to get a clue. Or learn what actual music is.
34(If you can't tell, I'm not a Miley fan)
I'm with #29. I have never heard a song by either one. Somehow I think I will live. Neither does not style of music.
35Obnoxious. But then again I think EVERYTHING about this girl and her entire family is obnoxious.
36I am 17 (about Miley's age) and I have honestly never heard a Jay-Z song. I have heard songs he has produced, ex. Umbrella but never one of his own. Sure, Miley could have worded it more carefully but shes just being honest which I find refresing. Compared to girls like Selena Gomez who always seem to be reading from a script, Miley always seems to just speak the truth. I don't listen to her music or watch her show, but I repect that.
37Even though she is turning into a little brat, I CAN believe she's never listened to one of his songs! I don't like rap or r&b ( I rather stick a fork in my brain). I wouldn't listen to his songs either if I had a brain...
38IF YOU'VE NEVER HEARD A JAY-Z SONG, DON'T MENTION HIM IN YOUR "MUSIC", you idiot.
Typical high school dropout. Did she even finish middle-school? Idiot.
39It's fine if she's never heard a Jay-Z song. I've never heard a Tobey Keith song. What's not cool is how manufactured she seems because she's singing about something she knows nothing about. She just seems like an empty headed puppet when she says things like that. It's obvious she has NO input regarding her material.
40Come again, little girl? You don't listen to pop music? Then what the heck is the stuff you record? And although Jay Z has some very popular music, I wouldn't put his music in that category at all. Someone shut this girl's trap.
41I can honestly say ... that although I know who JayZ is ....I really do not know if I have ever heard one of his songs.
Whether its true or not ... she is still an idiot.
42Seriously, if you have never heard Jay-Z, go remedy that right now. I'm not a big fan of rap, but Jay-Z is amazing. Miley, not so much.
43I listen to the top 40 station every morning, but I've never heard a Jay-Z song...that I know of. Maybe it's the same for her. She may have heard one but didn't know it was him, or if she's seen him at a show, it may not have stuck with her since it's not her type of music or she was backstage.
I don't get why she doesn't think her music is pop music, but she's a kid so I'll forgive her some stupidity. I like the song though, very catchy. At least she was honest about the song instead of trying to pretend to be what she's not.
44She's just super-ignorant or dumb, or both. Jay-Z for sure records some pop music, but let's not forget about brilliant The Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt!
45I've heard like one of her songs, though, teen pop for 13 years old, she's not popular in my country, I guess.
I'm willing to bet most people would recognize a Jay-Z song, even if they don't know who's singing it. Miley is an idiot!
46Two words: dumb b*tch
47TOTALLY OBNOXIOUS! The worst part is that she says Jay-z is pop music.
48She definitely has heard at least one of his songs.
She may not have written the song but the words are coming out of her mouth. I know she isn't learning these songs phonetically, so someone please tell her she needs to be aware of what other people are making her say.
The statement about not knowing Jay Z, however, smells of teenage temper tantrum. Maybe she expected Jay Z to send her flowers for mentioning his name in her song or some form of gratitude but he probably cringed when he heard it and only came in off the ledge after realizing it was free advertising. No this sounds like she's hurt...
"I don't even know who Jay Z is and anyway he's a doo doo head."
49I've never heard a Jay-z song
