Rihanna is so awesome and lovely! very refreshing!

I tuned in to the show last night (haven't watched the VMAs since, um, 1999?), and while I usually feel ashamed for being so out of the loop with new music, I for once feel happy for being such an old fart at 24. I'm also a Justin fan, but wow, he's irritating. I agree about the Sarah Silverman thing too--anyone can be vulgar and take cheap shots at people who are tabloid fodder. I've seen the commercial for her new show where she cops to having a "horse face with huge nostrils", and apparently that's all she really is. Gimme someone with talent like Chris Rock, Margaret Cho, or Eddie Izzard over that loser any day. Also the whole feel of the show was disjointed and just awkward. It felt like no one was in control of it at all.

I agree, Britney wasn't actually bad it's just that she used to be amazing. People are being really horrible about her body-she's had 2 kids for god's sake!! And don't get me started on that Sarah Silverman-she's not the slightest bit funny she's just rude-why does MTV keep hiring her?!

em1282 I agree with you about the whole show. I knew I wasn't the only one who felt like the it was too out of control. Just too disorganized. Seems like they had 12 shows going on at once. Everytime the nominations were read they were a bit too fast and felt dizzying. The audience was so blah, everytime the camera took a shot at the audience it seems like they were all playing around with their blackberries or sitting ther looking zoned out. And what wuz up with the back of Timbaland's head? Ewwwwww.

Chris Brown IS amazing! I'm not really a fan, but wow, it was sick! Probably the only performance I really liked.

I thought the show was ridiculous. Great I got to watch a bunch of drunk people. yay.
And I'm sorry but I know people are trying to give Britney a pass, saying she was ok, just not like she used to be. I disagree. her dancing was HORRIBLE. She was sloppy, didn't hit any of her moves, she seriously looked like she was on drugs. And don't get me started on her face or lip synching. She didn't even look like SHE cared! I don't know why Sarah Silverman gets hired either. But as much as everyone hate or loves JT i LOVE that he called out MTV to actually play videos. I was cracking up, they seriously play like maybe 2 hours total of videos each day. So much for music television.
All in all, show was a mess. Probably won't watch next year.

You guys are crazy- Sarah Silverman was hilarious. MTV continues to hire her back because she is funny- end of story. They obviously knew she wasnt going to be reserved with her jokes, so you've got to be crazy if you think they're sitting back embarrassed today. Britney is the biggest joke of all time, she was absolutely terrible. From hair, to the hideous outfit and horrible routine, she was a waste of time.

Britney wasn't horrible, she is just not back to her old self. She hasn't performed in front of so many people in a long time. I love Gimme More and hopefully she will get it together all the way. I can't stand Sarah Silverman, no talent at all.

I was surprised at how amaturish Beyonce seemed when she won an award. Her speech wasn't good and her comment "I hate these things" didn't do much either. She didn't sound poised and if I didn't know better I would have thought she never had to speak on live TV before.

Sorry, but Britney was that bad. Sarah Silverman’s career is a total mystery to me.

I'm a huge Britney fan, or I was, but last night... she wasn't even trying. I really hope she feels like crap about her performance since I had to endure it. If you are going to spend all this time away from your children to pursue your "art" or "craft" or "comeback dream" then you better make it good. She was so disappointing.

Well, I thought Sarah was funny! She puts herself down all the time, too, so it's not like she puts people down to make herself feel better. Britney was a hot mess. A part of me almost wanted her to bomb, but I actually just feel sorry for her after that performance. I'm still pulling for her to properly make her big comeback.

She wasn't funny...it was obviously really mean. NOBODY WAS LAUGHING.
She left with her diarrhea joke bcoz she knew she bombed.
