Molly: Britney, I never counted myself among your loyal fans, but sitting next to one of your most devoted every day, I've waited patiently for your comeback this year. On stage last night you looked both terrified and over it. Both wanting the public's approval and wishing you never had to ask for it again. Plus, you're still hot and all - but come on now? Underwear? Even back with your snake you wore pants. It was hard to watch, and as you ran off the stage at the end it was obvious that you weren't entirely proud either. As I said, I love me some Toxic, but I'm not jamming out like Katie to your new single. Pop, on the other hand...
Pop: Oh Britney. Where do we go from here? I have been a fan that has been holding out for 2 years for your big comeback. I have been waiting patiently as you raised your kids, got married and divorced twice, watched you spend time promoting perfume instead of dancing and singing and then finally your time came tonight...and well, let's just say, it went. I don't want to think you peaked before 25 but how much longer can I hold out for what was one of the most entertaining pop stars to return?

Pop: Clearly you need some new people you can trust. You should have been told you could not wear your underwear on stage. It was not sexy. It's not that a mother of two can't show off her body but when you are known for your signature abs you better hide them until they are back before parading around half naked. Maybe if you dressed the part and danced with confidence then this post would be totally different. We expected more and you knew it by the way you ran off that stage. No one actually thought you would sing but you could have at least acted like you were. You looked like you were somewhere else the entire performance. We have no idea what is going on in your mind but we're begging you - Please blow us away with this album and some videos - Stop partying and get your ass back in shape like the girl on the treadmill in Chaotic - Show us that confident woman you used to be so we can still support you because if you keep falling flat like you did last night then there's no more desire to see what you will do next and life would be so different with no Britney Spears phenomenon to follow.
Molly: See Brit? People are still waiting, even after last night. We all know you lip sync, but at least you used to pretend and the world played along. Whether it was Sarah Silverman's cowardly jabs just after you exited stage left or the Palms curbing your stunts, you just weren't there last night. Lucky for you, your fans haven't given up hope yet. Just get it together (as if you haven't heard that one) and give us more, way more than that.

1I hope she understands what she's doing to her life and what she's throwing away.
2I really thought Britney was going to redeem herself last night and give a really energetic performance. I figured, well, this is her chance. Instead it was a lackluster performance. It appeared as thought Britney did NOT want to be there. She wasn't even trying to make her lip synching match to the words of the song. There was no dancing on her part, no jumping around and giving her energetic performances of past. Towards the end of the song, she didn't even bother "lip-synching" along anymore. What a disappointment. This was her chance to make a comeback with her singing and let the public know she can revive her career, instead she blew it again. Who knows if she was high or not but she didn't even look happy to be there.
Now, that being the case, and while I've never been a Britney fan, I don't believe in kicking someone when they are down and Sarah Silverman's so-called "jokes" about Britney's two "cutest mistakes* (meaning her two sons) was clearly tacky, cruel and really f'd up. Someone needs to tell Silverman that there is a different between telling jokes like a comedian does versus standing in front of an audience and being catty like some high school loser.
3hehe- Pop, I am sorry she has disappointed you so much. It is time to let go... for your own sake!
4Well said ladies hopefully this will reach Britney. There is just one word to describe her performance.... SAD...
5it's great that she is confident enough to want to show off her body, but there comes a time when we've already seen it all and don't want to see anymore!!!
6I'm still rooting for Britney too! Poor poor Britney...maybe after last night performance, it'll give her the motivation to get her booty into gear! It was so painful to watch. (Did anyone notice that she almost tripped at 02:07?) Sarah Silverman took a really cheap stab when she insulted Britney's children. She can insult Britney all she wants but to talk about her kids, that was absolutely wrong.
7I don't know why people pull for Britney to succeed. Personally I feel like she was true to form last night in terms of what we should expect from someone who has made a complete train wreck of her life. If she HAD done well it would have been a total cop out for her life. She could continue flashing her bits and toting her sons around at midnight feeling justified. Now maybe she'll try to get some sort of control back over her life. Or maybe she should give up control herself and let someone help her!
8Why is Sarah Silverman the bad guy when she only spoke the truth? Don't get that. I'm sorry people fall for an illusion and watch it disappear in front of you.
9Seriously, she gave us clues all week it was going to be a diaster. She looked like she barely rehearsed, she should have been rehearsing while she out partying with Diddy and Chris Angel. She's over guys, dim the lights on Britney.
10Bad either way.
11Like I said, I'm no fan of Britney but there is a difference between telling jokes and ragging on someone's innocent children calling them mistakes (whether or not its true) it was in EXTREMELY poor taste on Silverman's part. I don't think she's funny.
12last night's boring, unernergitic performance has just showed me that THERE REALLY IS NO HOPE FOR THIS GIRL ANYMORE. AND WE ALL SHOULD JUST STOP WISHING for HER "COMEBACK." LAST NIGHT WAS HER CHANCE TO TELL PEOPLE (AND EVEN ME) TO "F*CK OFF COZ I'M BRITNEY B*ITCH.".....yeah.....
13I have to agree with you guys that Sarah Silverman was out of line. It was uncomfortable to listen to/ watch.
14damn britney...
15she cant sing cant dance cant write her own songs she one off those people who call them selfs artist but there jokes if you look at the 80 & 90s you can say and hear that they were talented these days you gotta be hot and have a body or a stupid reality show to became famous the music world is a joke
there arnt many people who can sing dance and write those who can i call artist
16Britney just flat out proved everyonne right who have been slating her........I cant see what her next move is from here....disappear mayb?
17life is about choices. brit's been rollin' with hype and paparazzi to generate attention that "she's back, b*tch." she's the one who decided to make this "comeback." well her lack of commitment and her lack of respect for her fans is now extremely clear. she didn't want to be there, she didn't want to perform, she didn't want to dance, she didn't want to even lip-synch her new single. it all felt forced and fake and we, the public, completely got that. so don't do it, brit. go away. find yourself. stop giving the paps stupid reasons to generate photos and press about you. respect yourself! you've made plenty of choices in the past that worked. you need to examine the choices you've been making and change. your "performance" last night was a sham. your hero, madonna, would've never shown up without an amazing concept and without working her a** off to execute it perfectly. madonna is someone who was in charge of herself and her career. when you're ready, you should go talk to her. until then, stop wasting everyone's time. we deserve better and so do you.
18That was so painful to watch. She's truly over. I mean, she didn't sing, and she barely danced. And that outfit - tragic.
19Now Brit and X17 blame the poor performance on Sara! HA!!! What ever happened to being a professional? Maybe if she did not stay out till 4 am partying, she might have been able to do a better job!!! But, she is a has-been, just like Debbie Gibson, Fionna and the rest of the 80's girl "singers". She was out of shape and sluggish!!!
20I think that she is was really uncomfortable with that outfit. I think that maybe if she had on more clothes she would have been a little more into it.
I can't stand Sarah Silverman. She is disgusting. My mom say there and watched it with me and was like who the heck is that little witch. Shes not funny at all.
21she wasnt that go0d. no facile expressions kinda sucked!!
22Sarah Silverman is not to blame for Britney's poor performance! And seriously, just cuz she's a woman, don't think she'll pull any punches...she's another Howard Stern but in a prettier package. Her material is not for the faint of heart and definitely not for the crowd at the VMA's.
And i don't know why people were expecting Britney to be so great when she's shown how rusty she is with those gross performances earlier this year. This woman is a HAS-BEEN! She reminds me of those desperate older woman who try to look and act like they're still in their 20's. It's so pathetic and sad because Britney is my age...25!!!
23I usually do like Sarah Silverman, she is funny. But she should not call Britney's kids mistakes that is just mean. Even if they were mistakes you don't say that about children. Britney had been talking about wanting to get pregnant so i don't think they were mistakes at least not the first one.
Regardless of what was said she should have been professional and actually put some effort into her performance.
24It sure was an awful performance. To really think that she would have a strong comeback and redeem herself. She proved that she was not ready, unless it was intentional on her part to gain more media exposure.
25brit brit is probably n suicide watch right now
26I didn't expect Britney to return to old form (i.e. the whole nude-bodysuit thing she had going when she was still dating Justin), but last night was just really sad. It's clear that she cannot trust the people who work for her (honestly, who told her that outfit looked good? Or maybe she really is just that stubborn and decided she would wear that no matter what). It's clear she's not ready to get back on stage...homegirl just needs some rest and time away from the cameras.
Also, Sarah Silverman is really not funny in practically any capacity. Why is she famous?
27the fat lady has sung
28
pinkflats- exactly! I hadn't even listened to her new song and was ready to eat my words if
she did well last night. That was it- headlines all over the news agencies (yahoo's big headline) "Britney Bombs at VMA's".
29I feel slightly bad because I do think all this bad press may put her over the edge. I can't even imagine dealing with all the backlash. Stay away from those kids a while Brit and get better-fast.
SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!?
I can't believe Britney's camp is now trying to blame Sarah Silverman. Yeah, her comments were low. That DOESN'T account for Britney not being a professional.
I know her die hard fans want to keep the faith. But how many excuses are you going to give her? GIVE. IT. UP. She's not coming back.
30the whole thing she was very robotic
31it wasn't chaotic. . .
lol
sorry britney - you let us down again
It was embarassing and SAD watching her writh around the stage, touching herself and having her dancers grope her like she was still the sexy dancer she USED to be.
32I was totally behind her comeback and excited to see her perform at the vmas, but last night was ridiculous. I mean I have more passion singing to a song on the radio than she did last night. Whatever I am so over her.
33redhot-lol, that is funny on so many levels
34hideous! the outfit, the slutty dancers, the slutty singer and her nasty outfit! my gosh, this woman has kids and she behaves like this. her best bet would've been to come out on stage, alone, in a decent outfit (pants and a shirt that covers her stomach) and just stand there and sing, using her own voice and no recordings. but wait....she actually can't sing and needs the smoke and mirrors act to cover that up. but it all failed miserably. i hope she just goes away, for her kids sake. i feel horrible for those kids to have her for a mom. she is repulsive!
35thirty seconds into it, and she looks awkward as hell. i don't even know if i want to finish watching...
36I really don't understand why mtv asks sarah silverman to these event while it is kinda tradition I guess to poke fun of celebrities her jokes are never funny and sumtimes out of line. As for britneys performance it was horrible it was so obvious she wasnt singing and she just looked tired.
37ok, can someone set up a poll to see how many Britney 'fans' are over her because of last night's performance. Please tell me people have given up watching her self-destruct!
38I held out hope for the girl... it wasn't quite the sparkling performance people hoped for that's for sure.
39Right on, nicachica. I agree with not blaming Sarah for Brit's poor performance. The thing is, comedy is all about saying things that "aren't supposed to be said." Sarah Silverman's style is very in your face, wrong, can't believe she just said that. Ironically there is truth, albeit painful, to Sarah's comment about the kids being the most adorable mistakes, about Brit's career being over at 25 and even the suggestive lip thing (it was Brit who chose to do the public reveals of her private body parts for the camera, after all). The truth can be unkind, but I respect Sarah for at least having the guts to say it.
40Someone said it best up there...even while Britney was at the top of her game, she was the same person. She just had a bunch of people being strict with her and MAKING her do the work. It was smoke and mirrors. Once she fired all those people it was just her chicken fried LAZY ass. She has no self control.
Blame Sarah Silverman, but Britney was out every night until 4am three days before her performance, boozing and making runs to Taco Bell and Wendys.
Ugh. Honestly, I wish one of her die hard fans could explain WHY they still have hope.
41Britney was awful. It was indeed quite painful to watch. Now I don't have the perfect body but at least I know I shouldn't prance around in my underwear. Her performance looked forced and the lipsynching was really obvious. And when the camera left the mess on stage and showed the reactions of the audience, I think there was a collective WTF plastered on everyone's face...
As for Sarah Silverman, I usually like her comedy despite the racism and the raunchiness. Last night however didn't even looked rehearsed. I mean how many times did she say the word "wow" in a 2 minute span. Jokes aside, her performance was just bad.
42It wasn't that bad... sarah was vulgar and jsuta heartless b*tch.
43I still love Brit!!!
What i would do for that body.
Britney definitely needs to grow up - plain and simple. Then maybe she can restart her career - last night was just horrible to watch.....i kind of felt bad for her.
44who can call someone's child a mistake that is border line evil--- some day the kids are going to be older and ehar what she said.
45I really wanted things to go well for her, not really for me, but for her own sake. But it sucked, hard -- that said, where were all the publicists, managers, producers? I mean, Britney can't be THAT stuck in her ways, can she? Couldn't they have seen this coming, and at least saved their own asses? And what about the MTV producer that said she was gonna "kill it"? Yeah, she killed it, buddy, and not in a good way.
And Sarah Silverman is just too much for my taste. I don't even find her funny. Be a little more creative, sweetie.
46True that Italygal...this is the real Brit, and has been all along. She was just so well-handled before that we never got to know the REAL Brit.
That being said, I don't know why anyone is surprised by this horrible performance. Again, this is the REAL Brit, when she doesn't have anyone to help her or tell her what to do.
I don't see how anyone could be pulling for her anymore, after last night's disastrous performance.
47HER PROBLEM WAS SHE DIDN'T PRACTICE ENOUGH.
People need to stop blaming her issues on "not having people to trust". Her problem is that she is irresponsible, lazy, and attention driven. You give her too much credit.
48I thought Britney's poor performance paled next to Sarah Silverman's. It's been a while since I saw someone bomb that badly.
49I don't think it was just that, Jillness. I mean, this performance lacked some serious creativity. It was SO boring.
