I wonder if the Academy did her a disservice by giving her that Oscar? I saw Dreamgirls and I felt entertained and motivated to a degree. I thought the movie was a little choppy in places, especially leading up to the song "And I'm Telling You".
Jennifer has lots of charisma, a nice smile, personality and is sweet. That being said, I don't think ANYONE in that movie turned in an Oscar level performance, if there is such a thing.
What I liked about Jennifer in the movie was her charisma and smile. I did not confuse that with her acting ability in the movie.
Now she has been ushered into the upper eschelons of just about everything in the industry. I can't help but think she has not paid her dues. That's one reason people are thinking she's going to get a backlash.
If she had really "killed" it with her performance, and that song, it would be another matter. For me, she did not bowl me over with either. But her smile and charisma was very good.
For sure it is not her fault that the industry likes her so much and are giving her all of these offers.
Maybe her CD with be very good.
