Demi Moore, the 44-year-old actress who looks fabulous these days, recently spoke to Red magazine about her feelings on ageism in Hollywood. She said, "It's been a challenging few years, being the age I am. Almost to the point where I felt like, well, they don't know what to do with me. I am not 20. Not 30. There aren't that many good roles for women over 40. A lot of them don't have much substance, other than being someone's mother or wife." What do you think - are Demi's complaints valid?

Wow that's a great picture of them.
1I think her problem is that she isn't 20 or 30, but she looks it because of all the plastic surgery she's had. It's not the age...There are parts for women her age (look at Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Renee Z. Jodie Foster - they are all in their late 30's early 40's and they're busy filming), but she doesn't look her age and she might not be as believable in a role other actresses her age are because of that.
2Welllll...Demi has had a lot of work done to look younger than she is...maybe the jobs for 40 somethings are going to women who actually look their age.
3There are women her age & older that get great roles...maybe she just needs a new agent..
4and it's my personal opinion that she is not that good of an actress when compared to Jodie, Nicole and Renee.
5Plus Demi isn't that great of an actress so I'm sure she's not getting the roles offered to her that say Cate Blanchett or Jodie Foster are. Jodie doesn't work much either.
6Well Sandra Bullock looks a lot younger than she is but she still does movies. And then the ones above always having leading roles. She is such a cry baby!
7I agree with those of you who said that there are women her age getting great roles!
BTW hi Tatti
8LOL biz, we were writing the same thing at the same time!
9great minds
10I also meant to say that Jodie doesn't work much either. She tends to pick roles that are interesting and challenging to her. Roles that I'm sure wouldn't be offered to Demi.
11Biz, I'll say, lol.
12good point, longhorn!
I think she has never been a good actress... And I think she is pathetic for spending that much damn money for plastic surgey! I'm not harshing on plastice surgery at all, but come on! EVERYONE gets older & everyone's looks change when they get older. Get over it! Geez, anyway she shoulda spent some of that dough getting Rumer fixed!
13I agree that the actresses who were the "pretty faces" when they were younger are having a tough time getting real acting parts as they age, but there are plenty for olden women with more substance, who are getting serious roles pretty regularly. Actresses like Meryl Streep, Dame Judi Dench, Susan Sarandon and Julianne Moore get great roles all the time.
14Um helllo- Ellen Barkin?
15
@ Sasha's Rumer comment.
16its not valid... Jodie Foster, Ellen Barkin... please!
17I really like that about Jodie...she does not work often but when she does the results are oscar worthy
18Meryl Streep - The Devil wears prada
19maybe she should have spent money on acting classes
20For sure, I think there are great roles for older women, just not for "older" women named Demi.
21Helen Mirren won the Oscar this year... isn't she like in her 60s
22When I get to be Helen's age I can only pray that I have that much sex appeal.
23Biz - I agree that her skills have something to do with it too. I was just saying there are actresses out there getting roles.
She can't get younger roles either because we all know how old she is and isn't believable in in a youner part either.
24well like everyone mentioned, there are a bunch of actresses her age who get work. honestly, i don't think demi is that great of an actress to begin with as compared to some of the other women out there.
look at meryl. how old is she & she still finds great parts. i think a good actor will find work. a so so actor who maybe had to rely on their looks more to get parts when they were younger probably won't find so many quality parts as they age.
25Cate Blanchett....
26no celeb complaints are valid thats the name of the game
27Something's gotta give - Diane Keaton
28I totally agree with you pink..lol
29She reminds me of Tyra. Tyra never cared about the plight of the woman with "meat on her bones" until she became one. Demi, after cashing in on her sole talent - her looks, is upset when those same looks that she spent hundreds of thousands on, isn't getting her the roles that she wants anymore. Hypocritical much?
30Demi CANNOT act!! That is why she is not getting any parts. Charlie's Angels I did great. Then Demi came in and it bombed!!!
31Michele Phiffer!!!
32Doesn't she a production company
33I was just going to mention Helen and Meryl...the best of the best! There are jobs out there for talent!
34she doesnt sell... yeah she looks good and all in a plastic way, but she is not any guys dream while there are many guys who wish they could get only one kiss from Monica Belluci...
35michelle is one of the best, actually the best love her
36Um, I don't think the parts that Jodie Foster and Ellen Barkin have are ALL that great. Plus, any roles that Barkin gets (as much as I love her) come from her desire to "skip dinner" and hop into bed. (did you guys read that interview?) By and large, women tend to get less attractive roles as they get older. But, here's the thing: what roles for women in their 20s are that great or THAT substantive? I think the better acting jobs (substance-wise) are actually the ones where characters are created and inhabited, and that rarely happens in roles assigned to, say, Lindsay Lohan or Kate Bosworth or Kate Hudson or...any of those young starlets. Most of those girls are up on the screen because they're easy to look at - no one REALLY gives a damn about their acting ability. Usually, the roles for the young girls fall into one of the following categories: hooker, druggie, stalker, ugly-duckling turned swan, superhero with big boobs. Are those really FANTASTIC roles? Even Kate H's most acclaimed performance came from her playing a freakin' groupie (oh, sorry, Band-Aid)...so, I guess, at any age, the jobs all have a very crappy side to them. It's like: play the hot hooker who gets abused (apparently EVERYONE, including Demi, wants that role??) or play the old granny who discovers how to pose nude. You'll get fame, attention, and lustful letters from young guys if you take the first and respect/credibility from the second. I'm not saying Demi's wrong, but maybe it's worth prioritizing what she wants from her career...and, also, maybe she shouldn't be looking for really meaningful while also sexy roles in a town that's all about tits and ass. Call me crazy.
37Meryl Streep....wow...what can I say...that woman is a phenomal actress.
38Unfortunately, Demi can't act very well. She's definitely hawt, but she's not a great actor.
39Does it mean all the Hollywood scripts are stories of young people only? There are no roles for aunts, mothers, high govt officials, president's wife, supergran(lol)????
40Well said #3 Biz..
What she doesn't have the courage to say is that there are less roles for older women who are desperately trying to look 20. The point of aging is to celebrate the grace of it, and the richness of the roles that may come about in how that transfers on the camera. But when you are a 44 year old woman and you look 20...... what's the point, you might as well hire an actress who is 20, as her looks and the experiences that she brings to her role will be far more believeable.
41It's so true! I'd love to see some movies with an older leading lady...where the focus isn't her being a mother or wife! I'm not sure Demi would be my first pick for that role though. If she wants to get those roles, she needs to let herself age a little. Older women are beautiful, but she just looks like an older lady trying to look young. That's not hot.
42she irks me.
One of my friends parents was telling me how when one of there kids went to the same camp as demi's kids. Ashton and Demi went to pick them up and that you could tell Demi has had work done and that she looks pretty rough.
43Make up does wonders for her.
ang
44I agree with longhorn, biz, tatti, and everyone else who echoed their statements.
Get over yourself Demi. There are plenty of beautiful 40 year old actresses who are kicking ass!
45I completely forgot about Michelle. Well it's okay Demi in 20 years Hilary Duff, Jessica Simpson, Kate Bosworth, and Katie Holmes will be right there with you! They are all famous because they are young and considered attractive, though I don't agree with that on a few of them, but since they don't act well, when that first wrinkle comes they'll be history.
46There are young actresses who get roles with substance...Natalie Portman, Scarlett, Claire Danes of the top of my head....roles that world not be offered to the Lindsey or so called fluff actress
47well she's not really that great of an actor so if she's actually waiting for a part like jodie's or anything that'll categorize her as brilliant, she better think twice.
48She sucks at acting.....SUCKS! Or is it "SHE BLOWS"???
Anywho...she looks too young for her age. Wait...that sounds so weird.
Demi...you just grow some more wrinkles and your in there like swimwear!!
49So true ang! That's exactly what I was trying to say.
I think it's great that these "older" women are getting roles where they aren't just the mother, wife, etc now. I don't think Demi can get those roles because there are too many talented actresses out there that snap them up before execs even think about her!
