Joaquin showed up at the Toronto Film Festival looking a bit rough but he cleaned up nicely for the premiere of Reservation Road. He looked a bit shy leaving the festival but maybe he was just tired out from all the dance moves he so elegantly displayed. Joaquin showed both his goofy and serious sides when talking about how the role in the movie affected him personally. Here's more:
"I'm going to be frank with you," he says, shifting sideways in his chair, admitting that in the past he probably talked about how certain roles might have been affected by his personal life.
"But, to be honest ... there is no effect on your real life. And if I said so in the past, I was probably only trying to get nominated."
And since, after being nominated twice for Oscars, it's no longer an issue?
"And now that that's done," he laughs. "I can finally be honest."
Well, now that Joaquin isn't trying so hard for the Oscar, maybe this will be the year that he finally gets to win one.

I watched some of the Toronto press conference because I didn't know much about the movie and it was like he was one something. He didn't speak much and when he did he joked around and wasn't serious. lol

14I don't think age is his biggest enemy. He may have some substance issues. Too bad, because he's talented and well liked.

20i definitely agree that there is probably substance abuse going on, but i've also thought that he might be a little bit off-kilter mentally/emotionally. i don't know what it's like to lose an older sibling (as much as i've joked about killing my younger brother when we were growing up!), and i cannot imagine it was easy to shake the demons from that.
he'll always have a soft spot in my heart after the movie 'parenthood.' my heart just breaks every time i see him in that. truly gifted. amazing.
21He's an amazing, gifted, talented actor. Totally original and one of a kind. He seems troubled by substance abuse or personel demons. A lot of really talented people are like that. I hope he has some peace and happiness in his life.
22He went to rehab right after portraying Jonny Cash, and he supposedly has a major drug problem, hate to say it but he looks as if it is true.

37I really don't believe that he would do drugs after what happened to River. He wouldn't do that to his mother and sisters.
He went to rehab for alcoholism, not drugs.
Besides, he is an amazing and responsible actor, and we all know that while on drugs actors tend to show on screen that something is wrong on their private lives.
He always said that he never knows what to do with his hair, so he just let it go.. he doesn't worry about it anymore..
