Is it true that it's bad to dye your hair while you're pregnant or is that an Old Wives Tale?

I've heard that watts, but I'm not sure if it's true or not.

Most doctors now say coloring one's hair is fine in the second and third trimester.

OMG! I have that same scarf. Does it still count, even if I bought it over 10 years ago? I knew it would come back in style!

Her doctor probably gave her an OK to dye her hair so it must be safe at this stage of her pregnancy.

Coloring hair is generally considered safe throughout pregnancy, regardless of trimester. I was given the ok to color my hair from the very start. The main concern is the fumes, not the chemicals. There's also the problem of hair not taking color as well during pregnancy, but I'm assuming Nicole has enough money to find a hairdresser who can overcome that.

And Nicole highlights, she doesn't do an all-over color. Which makes it even more acceptable.

I too heard it was the fumes, I also heard that product companies had dedveloped an organic hair dye that was completely safe during pregnancy... but I don't know the details.

Of course she looks really happy, now instead of carrying her little dog everywhere in a Louie Vuitton carrier, she can carry a baby instead ... LOL ... The latest trend to a lonely celebrities life- a dog, a baby, and a starbucks for the "Smile pretty" picture !

My doc also said it was safe to color hair during the entire pregnancy(I was blonde). He said the new formulas don't have the heavy fumes, and it's all good. It will be interesting to see if she keeps coloring it when her baby's a toddler. I though I would, but I colored it dark because hair color was just one more thing to worry about!

actually it's a really different kind of topic and you will hear different things on it..my nephew was found to have a cancerous tumor at 4 months old that the doctors said began while in utero. My sister in law went through a 3 day questionnaire that was over seen by Scientist at the MD Anderson Cancer Institute in Houston TX. One of the questions they asked her was did you color or get a perm while pregnant, she did color her hair 3 times during the nine months, the person asking her the question said that every time she asks that, that people always say YES. There hasn't been enough study for Doctors to say YES there is a connection, because you have to get a yes answer for so many years and the study is still going on. Also, if you believe the conspiracy and paid off theories (big companies paying off Labs ect for them NOT releasing the info)

They all said that laying in a sun tanning bed while pregnant wouldn't harm your fetus either..my brother's best friend's wife was a habitual user of Sun tanning beds while she was pregnant..when her child was born, all of it's organs were on the outside of it's body, unfortunately there was nothing the doctors could do. Every one had there suspicions that it was the sun tanning bed..but no one said anything.

also, I got "out" of the hair dressing business because I found out that cosmetologist and nail techs have one of the highest rates of birth defects among occupations with women who work while pregnant.

Opinions range from no, save natural henna, to sure, hair-dye is fine and not likely to cause any harm. Some components of hair dyes have proven carcinogenic to lab animals in high doses, but no studies have conclusively proven that the same is true of humans because no one wants to participate in a study like this while pregnant, think of the lawsuits.

It's up to each individual woman to decide if she wants to take the risk.

Meanwhile, the FDA says you can probably dye your hair, but you should minimize the risk by using plastic gloves. The Complete Organic Pregnancy says not to bleach hair on any part of your body ever while pregnant.

She needs to cut that stringy sh-t! Never mind the color but she def needs a style. Her hair is too thin and stringy for this style. Other than that I think she looks happy and healthy and I wish her the best of luck.

When I was prego my doc said I could dye my hair after the first trimester. My son is 5 months old now, healthy & happy! Nicole looks wonderful & healthy! I think she will make a great mother!

glad that you had a healthy baby, but just because you did doens't mean that it's Ok. Look at the ones who dyed their hair and didn't have a healthy baby..it's like some people get cancer from smoking and others don't..you just never know.
