The Nobel Peace Prize is a sham when a person can win it for promoting a cause that has NOT been scientifically proven. It's a sham. Its the same as giving Yasar Arafat (the guy who tortured tons of pwople) one, and Jimmy Carter... It is a politically backed prize, and is worthless in it's actualy merit other than saying "you win because the majority of people buy in to your nonsense"

Bad luck America (and by default, the world)... you had your chance to have Al Gore as your president and you blew it. Too late now!

I remember that election so well... after one of the candidate debates the media were reporting that Al Gore may be loosing support because he was coming off as "too intelligent". Too intelligent. To run a country!!!

I'm a firm believer that Al Gore did win that election. George W. Bush should never have been President and yet he was elected to a second term!?! I'll never understand. Congrats to Al on the Nobel Prize.

Cravinsuger - while I support Al Gore and agree with him on the global warming issue, you are right about the Prize. It should only be awarded to people that have scientifically proven their cause or theory.

I like Al Gore, and certainly don't begrudge him the Nobel Prize, but it does seem a bit odd. Isn't this the Nobel Peace Prize? Certainly there's someone out there who has worked their whole lives to advance the cause of peace who deserves the prize and recognition. What about people who aid those hurt by the Darfur situation?

That said, I'm generally a fan of Al, and it'll be interesting to see if he runs for president.

I'm not sure Gore was the best choice to win the Peace Prize. Many inaccuracies have been found in his documentary. But I'm sure he can find a place for the award in his 27 room house that uses as much energy in one month as an average house uses in 1 year.
Or maybe in one of his other three houses.

A woman who saved 2,500 Jews was passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize by a man who emits over a ton of CO2 a year while telling us to stop global warming. Yay.

my father in law has a phd in fresh water lake management and is one of the tops in the field... and he disagrees with alot of what al says, and also says that most of the time al has his facts wrong... now who to believe... someone with a phd in the field or someone who may potentially want to swing voters..

I mean yeah it was a cute movie and all, and it may have made people more environmentally concious... but alot of what he showed in it has been discredited, and thats something people need to keep in mind

Yay for Al Gore! The panel's reasoning was that as the advancement of the knowledge on climate change spreads around the world, it will bring about peace. Whether you agree, or not, that was there view. Maybe there are more deserving people in the world, but I believe the panel took this as an oppurtunity to advance the Climate Change agenda, and that now was an opportune time to do that.
And, the girl who knows the guy with the PhD in Fresh Water Management, I can only hope he believes in global warming, because all we need is a bunch of anti-environment people in charge of our drinking water. Bush has made our EPA and FDA a joke. They may still be agencies, but when they are stripped of the tools they need to protect us, or headed by Bushies, what good can they do? I know here in Texas, we have the 2nd (possibly 3rd) most contaminated waterways in the country (yay!), the majority of them just announced as not being swimmable, drinkable, and I'd say fishable to be safe.

I agree with cravinsugar. Everyone has just come to accept that what Al Gore is saying is true, even though there isn't much evidence for it. There are people that spend their whole lives working towards a nobel prize, and they've been passed up on the opportunity by someone who hasn't even invented something or found the cure for a disease...he's spread the knowledge about something that we don't even know all the answers to yet.

I still don't get why people are still blaming Rose for breaking up a marriage when they were already divorced before shooting started and separated for years.
