Orlando Bloom just issued a statement about his car accident last night saying that he called for help immediately, is grateful that his two female passengers, one of whom is a childhood friend, were only minorly hurt and thanking the medical workers who cared for them. Even if Orlando's accident wasn't alcohol related, it was still late at night and there were photographers everywhere. It sure seems like a lot of these celebrity car accidents could be avoided if they would just hire drivers. What do you think — why don't the stars have their own personal chauffeurs?

they are just stupid
1Why not? Just because they are celebrities doesn't mean that they shouldn't drive. That is like saying because you write a blog that you can't own a house. These are privileges that every American can take advantage of.
2Ok seriously. Typing this up... AGAIN. *muttering under my breath*
I don't understand how hiring a driver would have helped in the example given - a driver would be just as likely to be pushed off the road, cut off, etc, by paprazzi trying to get photos. Look at when Paris Hilton came home from jail - she was still mobbed at every stoplight and people leaned into the car to get photos, even though she wasn't driving.
Now why they don't when they're drunk? Got me. Arrogance and stupidity.
3Well, if there wasn't alcohol involved why can't he drive? Princess Diana (RIP) had a driver and we all know how that ended up. I think if anyone, celebs and every day people, are drinking and under the influence they should call a cab or have a designated driver.
My husband and I were in a car accident last year and we were just driving to Home Depot (it was the other person's fault, they cut us off). Should we hire a driver? Uh, don't think so.
Side note: Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Britney should have drivers. LOL!
4I don't think that there is anything wrong with Orlando driving last night if he wasn't drinking.
5He was cut off, and thats why they say he wrecked.
Yeah, I don't understand how this situation would have been any different if he had a hired driver?!? Didn't the person he got into a wreck with cut him off? Could they not have done that to the hired driver too?!
6Yeah but Princess Diana's driver was drunk, so he'd fall under the "should call a cab" category.
7i agree with Greggie & jmast
8LOL..sad but true greggie i agree.
9Greggie LOL!!!! True.
hi Tatti
10Hi tatti!
11But I still don't think all celebs need to hire a driver. That's a stupid poll. Just don't get behind the wheel when under the influence. Got that Kiefer, Lindsay, Paris, Nicole, Michelle Rodriguez, the list goes on and on unfortunately.
12they shouldn't have to hire a driver if they are not planning on being under the influence. also i would assume that hiring a driver might actually make more problems in some instances, seriously who is going to want to drive the likes of paris or britney around, and not because of their perceived lives, but you could not pay me enough to drive knowing there are going to be a million aggressive people following trying to get a shot or what not. also if you have a driver when something DOES happen its not just you and your car and the other car its the person you hired and they will hold you responsible for any injuries they received and hardship, its just one more person that you are responsible for and most likely will try and get money out of you even for minor incidences.
13For the record, though, I'll drive Orlando ANYWHERE he wants to go. He may find a few locations on the map that he didn't request, but eventually, he'd get to his destination.
14i agree with jmast..
15"But I still don't think all celebs need to hire a driver. That's a stupid poll."
I absolutely agree, jmast.
16Plus, if a sober celebrity hires a driver and then the driver drinks and drives, the headline's going to read "Orlando Bloom Employs Alcoholic." It's a lose/lose situation.
17wtf? Is this question a serious one?
18I'm pretty damn sure they can drive their own cars without the aid of a chauffeur.
I think hiring a chauffeur is as ridiculous as hiring an umbrella holder. I just don't see the real need for one. Not unless there's some type of disability at play.
Thank you trish and Greggie
LMAO! Greggie that was a funny comment about driving
Orlando. He is a cutie. I'd request him to get into his Legolas wig, wardrobe and makeup. ha
19The options for voting are pretty silly as well. They can't just want to be normal and drive themselves?
20i guess i should have thought before i typed, i agree with greggie, i would drive orlando and a handful of other celebs anywhere they wanted for free!!
21Okay, for those responsible celebs out there, I think they prefer to drive their fancy cars like everyone else. I mean they have loads of money and can afford these great cars so why not drive it?
Having a driver should be a must especially for those who know they are going to be drinking. But if your responsible and don't have 50+ paps following you than go ahead and enjoy your Jag!
22If you are a paparazzi magnet, it would be SO MUCH easier if they hired drivers. Black town cars/SUVs with tinted windows are used by many, many famous people when they don't want to be seen. Because they are used so often, the paps dont' know who is in them (executives also use them). If you need to change cars to avoid paparazzi, it can be done easily. Beverly Hills car rental places will drop off a rented (luxury) car to your home, pick you up, meet you somewhere, etc.
In this case, if they aren't drinking and they are someone with Orlando's level of privacy, I don't see why they shouldnt drive.
23I think if they have been drinking, then yes of course they should hire a driver.
But if you're Paris/Brit/Lindsey/etc. and you're just an idiot and cannot drive even if you're 100% sober, then please hire a driver for the sake of all other drivers/pedestrians!
24They are silly poll options..that's why I usually choose Other and write my own..ha!
25If you drink, you shouldn't drive. Duh. But if this isn't alcohol related, what are we talking about? People crash sometimes. And just because you can hire a driver doesn't mean you have to and it doesn't mean you're power-crazy if you don't.
26well, as in Princess Diana's case, having a driver didn't do a bit of good. And, I know celebs are supposed to know the papz come with the territory but there HAS TO BE a line drawn for safety reasons. I mean, watching Britney trying to park or get out of a parking lot or pull onto the street is painfully frightening. Not because she is a bad driver(minus the minor fender bender in the parking lot) but because she is surrounded by papz. And if one of them gets hurt running after her....it will be her fault. Seriously, celebs should have the freedom to do what they want, including driving. But if drinking is going to be involved the the "evening out" then by all means...get a driver for the evening.
27I think we should make a pact - if any of us are indeed hired as Orlando's driver, the other ones get to meet him. And spend an hour in the backseat.
28If he wasnt drinking, why should he need a driver? I think that the only time a celeb needs a driver, is when they go out drinking or get too wasted to drive home.
From what Ive read it was the other car that caused the accident and Orlando was there for his friends. I am glad that he is okay and I hope that the girls who went to the hospital will be okay too.
29I don't really see the need for a driver in the case of Orlando Bloom. He has a pretty good level of privacy and he wasn't under the influence.
30And Greggie, I agree with you. I would totally sign up to be Orlando's driver! lol
31I thought I read somewhere that some people were saying that they saw him drinking in the club the entire night. Even if he was cut off..wouldn't that still be drinking and driving. And I saw what the police said..but they didn't even give him a test..so how do they know. All you have to do to a cop in Cali. is wave a little money under their nose and the cover up begins. Something just doesn't add up...
32A driver is just as prone to having an accident as a "celebrity". Do all celebrities lose brain cells that allow them to operate vehicles once they achieve a certain level of fame?
33So not much to add here. Everyone summed it up perfectly. Let's talk about more important things like how I wish I was that firefighter.
34He looks super-stoned in the TMZ video. I'm kinda disappointed.
35"Let's talk about more important things like how I wish I was that firefighter."
Ain't that the truth.
36THey are people too and are allowed to own cars and drive it. I think it is better that they drive their own cars...if they had personal drivers, wouldn't the media harp on them for being elitist?
37Anyone can have a crash, even a professional driver. Just because you're not under the influence of any substances, and are a competent driver, some other muppet can pull out in front of you, or rear end you. Nobody is safe on the road 100% of the time
38How bout driving Orlando with his 'stache..any takers? how bout a Pirates outfit? Or even better with his LOR outfit
39For certain events the celebrities do have drivers, but when it is just themselves, why have a driver drive them around when they can just do it themselves. Celebrities are people too and I think sometimes they need to feel that they can do things themselves. They don't need someone to tend to their every need. Also I agree with the person above me, anyone can get into an accident and it doesn't matter what kind of state you are in, whether you are drunk or sober. There are a lot of people on the road who are just stupid drivers and it just influences the other drivers around them.
40I'd take him with the 'stache. I mean, I'd prefer, say, last scene in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Orlando, but I'll take what I can get.
Besides, he knows Sean Bean really well, so this is totally a win/win situation for me.
41Regardless if you are famous or not, you should always have a sober driver. It may be a taxi, limo, or a DD! I am so glad that no one was hurt and am glad that Orlando was sober, it just shows that accidents happen.
42a. it's expensive
b. it's unnecessary if you aren't drinking
c. drivers get in accidents too
d. its fun to drive
now why they(the stupid ones) don't have one on call when they get drunk...pure stupidity and arrogance
43Did anyone even watch the TMZ video?? Him and both of the girls he was with were drunk. The stupid brunette gets in the car and starts it..starts laughing..and tries to start her car 2 more times. They paps had to yell at her that her car was already started. Before they drive off the paps even say "this isn't good"..talking about them driving off messed up.
44Maybe because they just want to be normal...
45If I was a celeb with millions of bucks and drove a mercedes...I would want to drive that baby EVERYWHERE!
Mmmm yeah he looks drunk in that pic with the firefighter. If I were the firefighter I would totally take advantage of him in that state!
46If he wasn't under the influence then there is no problem with him driving. Even a hired driver could get into an accident if the papparazi cut them off. I'm sure being able to drive themselves helps them feel a little bit of normalcy and it gives them total control over when they go somewhere and where they go.
47So because the paparazzi are sick and stalk actors and singers they should have to get drivers??
Not every person in the spotlight WANTS to be followed and papped.. for some (unlike Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton) its a burden that comes with being good at your craft.
I never got the fame thing. Why follow actors who are in lots of movies.. i dont stalk sucessful well respected bikini waxers
48Celebrities aren't all bad drivers, so saying they should all hire drivers as a blanket statement is strange.
49mmmm orlando is so hot with out the mustache and that teeny bopper kate bosworth by his side.
