Saturday night's BET Hip Hop Awards got off to a dramatic start when TI was arrested only hours before he was supposed to perform on stage. He was nabbed by the feds blocks away from the awards where he was supposedly picking up illegal machine guns and silencers he had been brokering a deal to purchase through his bodyguards. Yikes. Despite the trouble, TI, who was nominated for nine awards, picked up two statues. Also going home with two (and considering he could show, he actually was there to accept) was Mr. Kanye West. In nontypical fashion, after winning Best Hip Hop Video he tried to pass it off to UGK's "International Players," featuring OutKast. Um, suuuure you actually want to give that award to someone else, Kanye. Totally, though I do appreciate his sense of humor.

5Traffic in Atlanta gets absolutely ridiculous when this show comes around. But last year, I coincidentally ended up at a birthday party at the same hotel where the pre-show party was and got to meet TI! I'm not a huge rap fan, but it was still kind of cool. I didn't see any machine guns on him then, though : )
6I heard an interview with Kanye yesterday that made me dislike him even more. Apparently, he has so much cred now he can do anything, wear anything, say anything, anything anything and we'll all just eat it up. Niiiice.

20i had to be in atlanta the same night as this for a bachelorette party...what should have been an easy 30 minute drive was 3 hours of absolute hell. so, just for that i hate these awards shows.
21but i'm also disappointed about T.I. i'm not a huge rap fan, but i liked him in the movie ATL (my boyfriend made me watch it, and it actually wasn't bad.) the movie had a sub-plot where T.I.'s character was trying to keep his little brother out of trouble w/ gangs/drugs/guns. it made me hope that maybe he had good values too...buuut, i guess that's probably not very realistic.

25hmmmm. well in my honest opinion, most awards shows are the worst these days... but yeah, T.I. is a disappoinment because of all the gum flappin about how he finds himself getting in his own way most times and he was gonna stop that... just to let it happen again. look, the rules are there for a reason... follow them. protect your money, man.... anyways, i am interested to see how this awards show turns out seeing as thought the VMA's were a HUGE disappointment. there is an open spot for one of these awards show to be the 'it' show of awards season, are these going to be it? i hope so, but i find it hard to believe myself. most of the awards shows sucked this year and i would be surprised if this one didnt keep in step with all the other failures...

Sarah Mclaughlin's music has relaxed me on business flights, Dixie Chicks have helped me through a break-up, Jay-Z lyrics have kept me company while I was lonely, Janis Joplin introduced me to folk/classic rock, Common has always made me believe hip-hop is here to stay, and Keyshia Cole cheers me up on my train commute to work every morning.Buy a Kanye West or Common album and you'll understand
