The usually impeccably gorgeous Natalie Portman looks a little off in the coverspread of this weekend's Parade Magazine. Maybe it's her hair? I've been loving her grown out locks, but something about this ages her too much. With the endearingly precious Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium hitting theaters in a few weeks Natalie shared a few of the life lessons she has learned in her wise, wise 26 years. Including her regret over one revealing scene in Goya's Ghosts that in the end wasn't even her. Here's highlights:
- On growing up famous: The summer after seventh grade, I shot my first movie, The Professional. Looking back, I realize that I might not have been that sensitive when I told people about it, and it came off as bragging. I was going to a small private school, and the other kids completely turned against me. No one would talk to me. I was so miserable that I had to change schools. But it made me think about how what I say affects other people, and I corrected my bravado.
- On trusting her decisions, and that regret: I’ve always been something of a pleaser: I want to make other people happy. That’s not the worst thing. I mean, the fact that you like people and want them to like you is great—as long as you’re not sacrificing who you are. I’m not someone who has a lot of regrets, but last year I did something that I wasn’t comfortable with, and I’m really sorry I didn’t listen to my intuition. There was a scene in a movie that felt inappropriate for me, but I didn’t want to make waves. So I let myself get talked into it, even though it shook me up. From now on, I’m going to trust my gut more. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is say “no.” No matter how much you plan and how hard you try, you can’t predict the outcome of things.
As expected, Natalie sounds like she's got a great head on her shoulders and could teach a thing or two to her contemporaries. Just think, she's only in her mid-20s...and she's already corrected the silly mistakes of her youth. Sigh, kinda little miss perfect.
To see more of Natalie in one very green dress just read more

2I like the cover shot. I think she looks really pretty, and she sounds so grounded. Kudos to her. It's nice to hear about a NORMAL celeb.

4Very pretty
5Little Miss Impossibly Perfect (though you're right Molly, the hairs a little off. Na na na na na
) but I have to say I have SO much admiration for this girls and how she carries herself. Sometimes perfect is, well, just perfect!

now if only britney could learn a thing or two
10What was the scene she regrets???
11I think she regretted getting naked ..
12she's talented, gorgeous and smart. it looks like they've photoshopped her pics tho
13everyone has attributed this quote to meaning the scene from Hotel Chevalier, but now Natalie's people have told Parade Mag that the scene in question was the body double scene from Goya's Ghosts. So who really knows?
14in the cover, her eyes look vacant, her smile looks kind of forced too. she does look old...i think she's cute, though, i usually love her in her movies.
i can't wait to see Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, though!
15She looks awesome!
whenever I see her now I think of her rapping!!!
16lol ashcwebb its cuz of that SNL skit isn't it
nbc took it off youtube though, so if u go
back to my blog it'll say "NO LONGER AVAILABLE :(" lol
17I don't get it, she was half naked in CLOSER yet I don't hear her expressing any regret about that. Or is it only okay when you get Golden Globes and Oscar nominations?
I don't know. She seems perfect on the surface but I always kind of feel that she's not entirely genuine.
18which skit on SNL?
19I think she is so cute, and it is so great how humble she is. I really respect her for her focus on the more important things, and how she has taken great steps to educate herself about the world.
20I gained a lot of respect for her for that skit! She was a GOOD rapper, who would have thought?
She was rapping about how hard core gangsta she is. It was brilliant.
21very pretty
22I thought it was that skit. i thought she did a good job with it to? and it was funny. maybe people were offended by it or something.
23She got naked in Wes Anderson's Hotel Chevalier. Thats what she regrets, not Goya's Ghost
24oh so its another movie. okay. i was gonna say, the SNL appearance was the best!
25I love her hair - she's great too
26Beautiful!
27sashak's right. she's talking about her nudity in Hotel Chevalier. i appreciate that's she's honest with her regrets and that she has a intuition that's starkly different from her most of her peers. you don't need to go nude to be a great actress and you certainly shouldn't feel pressured to do so.
28Hotel Chevalier is a short, so I don't know how/when/if it was released. But its Wes Anderson, so you know its good
29Hotel Chevalier is a prequel of sorts to the Darjeeling Limited. You can (or at least could) get it for free on iTunes. They wanted you to watch it before you saw the movie.
I think the SNL skit of Natalie rapping can be found on the Lonely Island Web site...which is Andy Samberg and his partners' site (also has a pilot they filmed, etc., stuff before SNL and current stuff, last time I checked).
I really ♥ Natalie! She's a great role model. And really intelligent. I can think of a dozen celebutards who could learn a lot from her.
30People magazine attributes her comments regarding regret to be about a torture scene in Goya's Ghosts. I don't necessarily think she has to be talking about nudity. If she was in a scene with a lot of violence, she may be regretting that. But I haven't seen Goya's Ghosts or Hotel Chevalier.
31I love her as Alice on Closer.
32Love her. But for some reason she looks like Erica Kane here.
33I must rent the movie "V" for Vendetta with her in it.
34She's pretty!
35Apparently, she was a b*tch as a teenager. I know this because she went to college in MA and I heard through the local grapevine. But I'd like to believe that nowadays she is a lot more humble. She actually seems alright these days.
36She is not talking about her nude scene from "Hotel Chevalier", she already clarifed that. Oh, she needs to shut UP about the stupid scene from "Goya's Ghost". NO ONE CARES. I can't stand her - she's all kinds of pretention and phoniness.
37Talented, gorgeous and and a Harvard graduate to boot. This is the role model young girls should gravitate too, not those other Hollywood party sluts.
38this girl is perfect.
39She seems like a nice person. Very intelligent and beautiful.
40tsk.
41why would I wanna pick up any "life lessons" from her.
I don't like her. I don't think I ever will.
42She seems so nice and beautiful! I want her as my BFF ;D
43i love her on V 4... sth. icant remember
44if she regrets showing her ass for a movie, why doesnt she regret shaving her head for a piece of crap such as v for vendetta? point being, you gotta do what you gotta do for your craft
