Activist Actresses Angelina Jolie and Meg Ryan got together with some very noteworthy women in Beverly Hills last night for the International Women's Media Foundation's 18th Annual Courage in Journalism Awards. The honorees, from Mexico, Ethiopia, and Iraq, were awarded last week in DC, but were happy to have another time on the red carpet together in LA last night. Obviously Angelina, Maria Shriver and Meg Ryan were happy to be able to host the women in LA last night, too. Look at that grin! Earlier this year, Angelina received critical acclaim playing an extremely courageous female in A Mighty Heart and she obviously greatly admires the work of women dealing with intense situations all over the world. A definite big brava goes out to all these incredible women who inspire female journalists everywhere.

A Mighty Heart was very very powerful! I think Angie will definitely get an Oscar nod. Great movie but very sad.
1i don't know if that's her real hair that looks like extensions or she actually has extensions... but hair should not LOOK fake. anyway, i think these actresses are putting their fame to good use
2So generous of them.
ew, is that Meg? she looks like Mary-kate.
3angie looks gorgouse while mag looks greasy!
4I used to think Meg was so pretty....and then she had to mess with her god given beauty....and now she looks like the joker.
5I haven't seen Meg Ryan in ages... hmmm
6I have great admiration for Christiane Amanpour....I admire her journalistic integrity and the fact that she has reported from most of the world's hotspots.
7I agree biz, she is an inspiration.
8looking good Angie...Christiane is amazing... we need more women like her in journalism
9chrisitane rocks, her documentary on AIDS in kenya, Where are the Parents(I think that's the title), was so damn good without being too schmaltzy or playing into stereotypes about AIDS and Africa. As for Meg that glare reflecting from her gresed up face is way unattaractive and does she shop at the same Cheap tacky weaves r us as Brit.
10what happened to meg ryan's hair? i used to think her hairs lovely!
11Agenlina is such an inspiration.I only wish more people in hollywood would put their fame to such good use
12What a wonderful event. I must say that Meg Ryan's hair is terrible though. Whoever convinced her to get extensions was very cruel!
13Great event: Angeline looks wonderful and she really deserves an oscar nom for A Mighty Heart, that was a fantastic movie!
Ummm, so Meg decided she wan't going to comb her hair today? wth?
14Meg's extensions are a step up from you-know-who (starts with a B)!
15Meg's hair looks really gross. Run a comb through that sucker, Meg!
16these women are all so very inspiring!
17Personally, I think A Mighty Heart exploited Daniel Pearl's murder and the reason it failed at the box office is because everyone watched it unfold in real time on cable news. Same thing for movies about September 11.
18i don't know about the exploitation as marianne pearl okayed and she has carried herself with amazing dignity.the reason people don't watch those things is because they are depressing, no one wants to watch things mired in reality like war and death when you can watch comedies and rom coms etc. And honestly not enough people cared about Daniel pearl as horrible as it may sound. peple know more about Sh!tney's custody case than what's going on in the real world.
19I
Angelina! She is such a great women!
20What a Fantastic reason to have a red carpet event!!! Now these are the kinds of women that need to honored!!! And a big thank you to Lydia Cacho for continually bringing light to the plight of the factory women in Cuidad Juarez.
21Just because a movie is depressing or sad doesn't mean people won't go see it. Saving Private Ryan and Schlinder's List were exactly laugh fests and they made tons of money.
22Rendition... Thing we lost in the fire... the list goes on and on
23christianne is the role model, not angelina. i wish more people would look up to people like her, who are actually reporting from danger zones so we get the truth rather than some skinny actress...
24Saving Private Ryan AND Schindler's List also have the name SPIELBERG strapped on them!!!
25amandahugginkiss, while I respect that everybody is not going to be a fan of everybody, including Jolie, at least understand that she's more than just a skinny actress...she's goes well beyond that description. A skinny actress would be Reese Witherspoon (and I love her) and Jessica Alba.
26Meg's hair... Has it got a life of its own? A bird nest in it? Dunno... But there's something in that mane, I'm sure!!!
27Who is that woman in the green, it is a bad pic of her...she looks like rod stewart...yikes!
28oh God poor Meg Ryan, who hit her with the ugly stick!? Seriously, that woman needs to buy a friggin hairbrush
29How can someone say A Mighty Heart exploited Danielle Pearl??? You don't even have to say another word for me to know that you didn't even see the film because you wouldn't have stated such nonsense! It was based off his wife's book and she signed off on everything. His wife handled his death and everything after with tremendous dignity! She has more respect for her husband than you could imagine! His wife has never even watched the tapes of her husband being chopped into pieces because of honor and respect for him ans she refuses to be terrorized. Yes he was more than beheaded seeing the movie I learned he was chopped into several pieces. So please know what your talking about before you make such an unfair blanketed statement that his death was exploited because Marianne is the LAST person to let that happen!
30I usually think Meg Ryan looks great, but she is looking...not her best here.
31You gotta love Angelina and Brad. No manner their past when it comes to the people that they were with, work they've done, or etc...these two act far past family oriented and classy now. That's a change and a good thing to see in Hollywood. These two have moved on in life and are making their lives and other people's happier, for the better....good for them.
Oh and Angelina looks great as always.
32meg looks ratty
33nyaradzom2001
I think you make a good point. I don’t believe Daniel Pearl was exploited at all especially because the movie was based on Marianne’s ordeal and the movie was an excellent adaptation of her book. But, the fact the movie was released during the summer blockbusters contributed to this movie not been seen as much as it should have b/c many people tend to shy away from depressing matters and are more inclined to see what Britney’s doing next or what.
34This is a great award! I love seeing Angelina, Meg looks great ( even if her hair looks a bit unkempt) and I think Christiane Amanpour is a fabulous journalist.
35i used to love meg, then she goes and messes everything up, succumbing to mid life crisis and collagen injections.. now look at her, she looks like she hasn't showered and slept. angie looks great.
36What is up with Meg's hair?? I loved the shorter hairstyle on her.....she's such a pretty lady!
I think Angie still looks worn out!
37Meg looks too shiny!
38Someone mentioned that Reese Witherspoon is just a skinny actress, however, she is involved with charities. Not everyone has to volunteer or help with a charity and then announce it to the news to be helpful and care about things.
Angelina Jolie is not the first and certainly not the last celebrity to be involved with charities, etc. I don't think we should rip apart other actresses and celebs we don't know to defend one actress we don't know.
39Jmast,
I was the poster that mentioned Witherspoon and Alba, both of whom are active in charities. However in this day and age you'd be hard-pressed to find a celebrity that isn't involved in some charity in some form or fashion. But being involved is very different from being in the trenches, which Angelina does...not as an actress, but as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. Jolie also does correspondence with the Washington Post. So while Witherspoon (and Alba for that matter) is active in charities, she not much different from the all the other "skinny" actresses in Hollywood.
40Molly - what a great post! Thank you!!! Would love to see more like this with women who are actually doing something with their lives and enriching ours in the process. Angie is glowing at this event just like she glows when she's with her kids - she's coming from the heart! It's so good to see Christiane Amanpour - what an incredible journalist.
Meg looks scary and that makes me sad. She looks completely different than she use to, I've never been able to accept her joker looking face. She looks worse now with her face all tight and shiny and that hair.....blech. She succumbed to the pressure and that makes me sad and besides that, she had the worlds worst plastic surgeon work on her!
41Hi tiabia,
I understand and respect what you are writing. And I commend people like Angelina Jolie that are UN Goodwill Ambassadors. But she isn't the first and she won't be the last is all I'm trying to say. Nicole Kidman, Whoopie Goldberg, David Beckham, Susan Sarandon, Jackie Chan, Ricky Martin, etc. are all UN Goodwill Ambassadors. It's not just one person in Hollywood that is going to do good and make a difference. Thank goodness for that
42Jmast,
I understand and know that...but they aren't at this event
43True, true
44Seriously Meg...a haircut.
45I was one of the handful of people who actually paid to go see A Mighty Heart in the movies. One of the definitions of the word exploit is "use or manipulate to one's advantage." One's advantage can be financial profit, higher Nielsen ratings or an Oscar nod, no? In the same vein, I think the Goldman's exploited the murder of their son by OJ Simpson by publishing that hideous book he wrote. Sometimes people do use personal tragedy for personal profit. With 24/7 cable news, making a film about a current public event is redundant since themedia coverage was probably excessive to begin with (i.e, Anna Nicole Smith death, the constant rebroadcasting of the Twin Towers collapsing on 9/11, the OJ Simpson trial). This is not to diminish Ms. Pearl's or anybody else's anguish over a tragic event.
46marianne wrote the book and the movie was based upon that, are you saying daniel pearls widow was the one exploiting him? thats just silly. anyhoo, i have a great respect for female journalists who risk their lives to get a story told.
47what a great women!
48I would love to know how you think A Mighty Heart exploited Daniele Pearl considering his character was only in the movie for like 10 minutes???
49Jackie Kennedy's husband was murdered in front of her and his brains eneded up on her lap. She NEVER spoke publicly about it, she didn't write a book and her story goes with her to the grave.
Marianne Pearl's husband is murdered by terrorists, she writes a book, gives interviews, tries and fails to get money from a 9/11 fund, sells movie rights, goes to Cannes to publicize/celebrate movie opening. I see it as somewhat exploitative, others can see it as making the best of a terrible situation.
