The Gotham Awards sparked some controversy this year for allowing big studio backed films to compete with the low budget indies that the show usually recognizes. However, this did not keep the stars away and it looks like the indies still dominated the awards despite competition from The Departed. Half Nelson was the big winner of the night with best feature, breakthrough director and breakthrough actor (Go Ryan Gosling!). Babel also won for best ensemble cast. Everyone at this award show took things pretty seriously. Brittany Murphy seems to be the only one willing to play to the cameras. It's a good thing too because you know Sean Penn won't do it!
