Jenny McCarthy and her main man Evan spent some time getting pizza with his dad John Asher in LA over the weekend. Jenny's opened up to the world recently about her son, her relationship with Jim and how much she wants to educate the world as much as she can about autism. Now, she's talking to her hometown Chicago Tribune on writing the book about Evan's autism and what's next on her agenda. Here's more:
Q: You've said "This is the book I was born to write." How did you write it? Were you journaling at the time?
A: With all of my books, I just sit down and write. It's very much after the fact. I have a photographic memory of events in my life; it's one of the things I'm blessed with for the sole purpose of writing books. The story is imprinted on my soul. It wasn't hard to write.
Q: What's next on your schedule?
A: I want to start the mommy autism learning tour across the country. I want to find locations, charge next to nothing and come talk to moms to teach them everything I learned. I'll bring doctors with me.
Q: Is "cute guy" in the book (boyfriend) Jim Carrey?
A: Yes.
The book sounds like heavy stuff, but knowing Jenny she always finds a way to make people smile. Hopefully, all this work she's been doing is helpful to lots of moms out there who are going through similar experiences. Sometimes it's hard to imagine that this is the same woman who made her name on Singled Out.

Even though I'm not a blond myself, I think it's cool that Jenny is breaking that big boobs+blond hair= dumb stereotype. Kudos to her for being so involved with her child.
1Haha I'm not blonde either but I have rather big ta tas and I'm not a dumbie!
2In no world is Jim Carrey even remotely cute.
*gross*
3that is great that she is doing that ..
I just don't get it sometimes..I mean what if
her child did not have autism would she really care about it as much as she does now..
4I agree at least she is involved with her child. Not like other celebs that would just hire a nanny to take of them.
5I heard that the book pretty good. I think I will read it.
6She probably wouldn't care so much if her son didn't have autism but SO WHAT the bottom line is that she does care! Most parents probably wouldn't have such a devoted interest in things if their kids were not affected thats normal I think!
Thank goodness for her and Holly Robinson for doing what they can to spread the word and get help regarding autism.
7Advocates are made when issues touch their lives. That's normal. That's like saying "MLK wouldn't have been a civil rights leader if he had been born white." Silly.
8hotstuff you are finally to Gold..Congrats
You are right sasha...
9is it bad of me to think her ex is sorta cute..:blushing:
10:BLUSH:
11I know the difficulties of just working with autustic children, so I have much respect for her and all parents dealing with autistic children. There is still a lot to be learned and she is helping with that, so kudos to her!
12such a good book, but it was hard to read...so sad. she seems like a wonderful mommy.
13TY letsgetloud!
14my son has cerebal palsay, i wish there was more awareness as far as a celeb to bring that out like jenn with autism, not that i wish anyone that especially a child
15i wonder if she'll die her hair brunette now
but kudos to her for spreading the
word

HI AND THANKS...THANKS...THANKS!!!
for everything you said up above. My son, Gabriel, has autism and, as cliche as it sounds, he is an inspiration to me. It's true, I wouldn't know as much about autism if Gabe wasn't diagnosed in May of 2006, but he was. And I think it has made our family focus more on what's important.
I might not be completely in sync with Jenny (we follow the GFCF diet and use OT, SLP, ABA and PLAY therapies), but I think she is AMAZING for for the attention she has drawn to autism.
Check out our little guys singing Linkin Park, The Old Lady song and more, here... that is if they let me link...

17She's great - she is doing great things with her life after starting so normal in the showbiz world she has stepped apart and done amazing things.
18I've never been a big fan of her, but she is changing her image a lot
. Nice to see
two divorced Hollywood adults acting like adults for once!
19Your Welcome macsugar, it's like Oprah said there just hasn't previously been enough attention given to autism in the past so anyone who can spread the word I think it's great!
pinkprincess, there also isn't hardly enough attention given to cerebral palsy either! Even much less attention than just about anything I can think of. I wish there was more awareness! There needs to be more support and awareness for families dealing with cerebral palsy!
20hotstuff,I used to think you and tabloid princess were the same person ...
21thanks hottstuff, i really wish there was my son is 4 mind you and was just diagnosed 2 months ago thank god it is mild, he is the highlight of my life and i wish there was more that can be done for him, i remember the day after i found out i went straight to the internet to research and there was a few links but nothing like other illnesses
22i think shes doing an amazing job bringing awareness to autism
23LOL, letsgetloud tabloidprincess is much to nice for me to be her!
24Now that I think about it I'm always accused of being someone else on this site. I guess if I agree with someone or they agree with me I must be them, I don't know. I forget the last person they said I must be.
25my oldest daughter has autism. the early days, before kindergarten are NOTHING like what the rest of his life will be, this is the easy part for her and her family. the time when the delays of a year or 2 or 3 don't mean much because all kids are a little "quirky" and what's a little delay? when typically developing kids hit school age their developmental milestones take off at the speed of sound, and social delays are blinding red flags to the other kids that something isn't quite right. then most parents insist on mainstreaming their children (after holding them back a year) pretending that this will "fix" their shild. there is no cure for autism. it is a permanent life long impairment and most of these kids will require life long care (no independent living).
for someone like jenny m that's easy to pay for, for the rest of us not so much. we've tried every therapy available but the sad truth is that not only is there no cure, but many kids regress after age 4 and not all kids make measurable gains. she should stop with the "he's cured" crap. it isn't going to help anyone and may actually keep some parents from facing the truth and making responsible preperations about their childs future (special needs trust).
26Holly Robinson said that she's seen dramatic improvement in her son by using some of the same technique that Jenny does. Her son is 10 yrs old. Your probably right though for most cases but keep hope alive!
Here is a link to where she talks about the same thing about struggling at 4 yrs old but he is now being mainstreamed.
http://www.celebrity-babies.com/2007/04/holly_robinson_.html
27yeah, talking about it and reality; not the same thing. holly's son is SEVRELY affected. to say he is anything else is just denial. how high functioning can a person be if they can't tell someone when they are hurt, cold, sick, hungry, etc. by law if a parent in california asks for their child to be mainstreamed the state must provide that under "least restrictive environment" laws. mainstreaming with severely affected atusitic children is largly for their parents. the next step with this type of parent is homeschooling (not bad mouthing hs kids by any means). this way they don't have to hear what the school district has to say about their childs issues. hope cost nothing and can get people thorugh dark times, but when you don't face reality all that you create is a second issue; denial.
28I think the main thing is that she is bringing attention to it.
29I'm so happy for them (Jim).
30Cuteness isnt only skin deep for the people who dont think jim is cute.
I have always thought Jenny was awesome, ever since the early days of playboy when she laughed about how they airbrushed out her cellulite and acne.
31most people don't get passionate about a topic until it personally affects their life.
32I think that it is great that she is trying to bring awareness to autism. I have really enjoyed her other books and will definately be reading this one as soon as i finish the big stack of books i already have to read!
33Gosh, I love Jenny and LOVE her books. Can't wait to hear more about what she has to say. She's funny and real and gorgeous and a mommy - what's not to love?!
