It's basic family law if one party has a lot more money that they pay the lesser earner's legal bills. Otherwise, the person with money would have incentive to run up the expenses to try to the point where the other couldn't afford a legal fight. If Britney hadn't blown the court orders so many times, Kevin's lawyer wouldn't have had to show up in court so often and the bills would be lower.

thats no fair to Kfed. marital law is tricky. if britney can afford super expensive, and thus arguably better, legal representation it puts him in a disadvatage (although brit hasn't helped make her image better). and its not as if she took court seriously. if a rich man divorced his wife, she was now broke, and he petitioned for custody even though he would be a worse parent...you would feel for the woman. and having the losing side pay for legal fees is typical.

Im not surprised Britney sold that much. Actually I am. I know many of her die-core fans who have bought at least 2-5 copies of her CD. I think that also explains her 'high' sales. I love the Eagles, I have their new album, and it is so incredibly good it cannot be compared with Britney's. Go the Eagles!

Although Kevin is not 'dad of the year', he somehow seems to care about his children's wellfare. Britney should have known from the start that she was going to foot the bill considering her lavish spending on herself. Im actually looking forward to what he might say to Oprah(although it is still a rumour.)

But what's weird is that I haven't seen a new photo of Britney in a couple of days. Even her favorite stalkers/BFFs X17 haven't run a new story about her since Monday morning. She's on page 3 there, which is almost unheard of. It's nice, but she's probably ticked off at the Lohan coverage and plotting some new headline grabbing stunt.

And you know this how? You know he's a bad parent because he kisses his boys goodbye when they go to their mother's and because he's trying to keep them safe from a woman spiraling out of control? You know he's after all of Britney's money because the court awarded him part of the legal fees, as commensurate with standard family court decisions regarding the "wealthier" party and WHO it is who initially brought forth the case (Britney initally sued Kevin for custody, she's the plaintiff, she is losing. If Britney hadn't attempted to get sole custody, Kevin wouldn't have been in court and wouldn't have incurred the expenses that he has, therefore it is HER responsibility to pay him back for wasting his time and money). So far, Kevin hasn't actually asked for more money, though the COURT certainly will order more if he retains full custody. That, too, is normal family court behavior. And once again, if Kevin were the wife and Britney the husband, no one would blink twice about any of these proceedings.

And I think the word you're looking for is "mercenary", not "mercantile".

As for the Eagles: they sold far more records than Britney and it's about time that Billboard joined the new millenium and adjusted their policy to include single outlet and online sales.

Oh, and while I am not a "fan" of Kevin Federline, I do appreciate that he is doing what is necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of his children, and I do believe that is his main goal. Anything monetary is secondary, IN MY OPINION.

It's kind of pathetic that the Eagles were only selling at Walmart and they beat her. Her record is selling at probably 100 times more places than just Walmart! She sure as hell also has way more publicity surrounding her album. I didn't even know the Eagles had an album coming out!

As many times as Britney has proven to be a "lame ass" who can't even be trusted with her own children by herself I've never seen her called a "lame ass". I don't see why people find it so difficult to believe that Kevin might just be interested in the well being of his children.

You don't see a lot of people challenging the sincerity of Bob Geldof, David Hasselhoff, or Paul McCartney for trying to do the best for their kids as a divorced single dad fighting for custody. Having less money than his ex-wife doesn't preclude him from caring about his kids.

I think it is perfectly fine for Brit** to have to pay his legal fees. She is an AWFUL mother. Period. She spends money like there is no tomorrow so dropping a bit on legal fees is no big deal. Jeez the girl spends 6 hours in hotels for 10's of thousands of dollars when ever she gets the urge. She has dug her own grave. I have no sympathy for her. She KNOWS what to do to get her life back on track and regain custody but she CHOOSES NOT to do it.

I downloaded her album for FREE just to see what it was like....I nearly threw up. Even my kids don't like it. I did buy the Eagles new one and as expected it is great. You gotta make great music to sell albums not have your voice so altered you sound like and alien.

I agree Ginger it's not even just that he does seem to care but the fact that the court has taken away custody from BRITNEY FREAKING SPEARS!!! People don't understand how significant this is. She isn't Britney Brown from around the way. This is a very popular, powerful (even though she seems like a joke), multi millionaire! If Kevin is such a loser just after her money the court would figured this out in a hot second. Clearly he has proven his case that Britney is an unfit mom. Since when do we support losers who are a danger to their children?

Anyway...I find it hard to believe that Kfed is doing this for his kids because of his behavior over the last TWO YEARS. If Brit was so irresponsible, drunk, and high all the time why would you leave your kids in her care to party in Vegas and Miami constantly. I just think in any custody case BOTH sides should have drug test and alcohol monitoring. You can't detemine what's best for the kids witout examing BOTH parents equally. As far as the leagal bills, in the court documents Kevin's lawyer states "he earns no income" so why do you live in a million dollar home? You have a nanny (if you don't work WHY do you need a nanny?) WHo is paying the rent/mortgage, lights, groceries, gas, pool cleaners? I work everyday and I ain't got no pool!

I have said all along Brit's mom should get the boys cause Brit is crazy but Kevin is broke. And financial stability (outside of the other parents support) is crucial to raising children. My mom got 168 every two weeks for 3 kids (and my dad made extremely good money. Could/should have just not worked and made my father take care of ALL of us?

Also, given her prolonged recent behaviour a full smack-down is nothing less than she deserves. What's next? Hopefully a wake-up call, but really, who knows?

Woody Allen had this phrase, "80% of success is showing up." In the Federline-Spears custody battle, that's about right. Kevin doesn't have to work too hard to prove anything because Britney keeps going out in front of the cameras doing stupid stuff that ticks off the judge.

Kevin has more money than probably anyone who posts here. He got several million from the Malibu house sale, spousal support from the last year which is about to run out, half a million dollars for a super bowl commercial, etc. It's just that by the time they take off living expenses, business write-offs, etc he doesn't show much net income.

First of all, Britney is no poster child for a good mother and I don't agree with how she's portrayed herself. If Kevin doesn't need the money, and that isn't his motivation, then I suggest he sell the big house, gets a more reasonable one, get a real job, and live like the rest of us.

The boys would rather have an emotionally stable parent who loves them than "stuff" that money can buy. Jaxon, girl, great point. I forget he has a total of four kids, but only two of them are Brit's. With four million dollars...I could invest, buy a very nice home, take care of those four children, be set for life, and never have to work again...What's wrong with people?

It is harsh to characterize Federline as lame for having Britney pay his legal bills - this is quite common in custody cases where one parent is well off and the other isn't. If Federline is "lame" so is every other parent, mostly women, who have had sometimes crippling legal bills picked up by the wealthier party.

Wow she really needs to get her life together! i don't think she should have to pay k-feds legal bills though. i bet the only reason he is making her pay is because he can't afford it! I think she needs a hard-core intervention to get her life back on track!

The sad part about all of this is two children who have parents who are spending most of their time meeting with lawyers or in court fighting over them. (Or behaving badly!) Britney has to get herself together or risk losing them for good. Kevin should have his hands full with four kids...good grief...that's enough to make my head spin!

My biggest concern from the onset was that the decision on who raised the kids wasn't who the best parent was, but who the least "bad" parent was...poor grammar, but you know what I mean. Britney's every move is chronicled in the headlines, but Kevin can slip a little more under the radar. But, custody cases don't always make sense when you're on the outside looking in. I just hope the lawyers and judge are really working for the KIDS, not Britney or Kevin!

Considering how many cases Britney didn't even bother showing up to, considering how many drug tests Britney has missed, considering all the testimony and evidence that she is a bad mom from parties other than K-Fed, considering the very very poor review from the court appointed monitor.
