I'm sure that you have programmed your cardio machine at the gym to stay in the Fat Burning Zone. I certainly have, hoping my lower love handles (that is what I call my "saddle bags") would just disappear.
Well, I won't do it again, because you burn more calories when working at a higher intensity. To lose weight you need to burn up calories, and endurance training does that way more efficiently and effectively.
While it is true that you burn more fat [1] in relation to carbs when working in the Fat Burning Zone, you burn more of both fat and carbs when your heart rate is higher. So go for the gusto, kill two birds with one stone, burn it all up getting your heat rate above the Fat Burning Zone.
