After a quick wardrobe malfunction-filled trip to London, Angelina Jolie was back on the set of The Changeling in LA yesterday. She was filming a scene where she and a crowd protest the LAPD and in real life we all know she's never one to keep quiet either. Tomorrow we'll be able to hear even more of Angelina's fiery opinions when her first piece for The Economist in its World in 2008 issue hits newsstands. The annual themed issue is full of predictions for the upcoming year, and Angelina's article in particular deals with the situation in Darfur. With her movies, four kids, and all her advocacy work, sometimes it's hard to imagine where Angelina finds time to sit down and write. She's impressive, I will say that.

1whatever man.
2sick of her!
her red lips look really good here. that other posting had her looking a little wacky with them
3There we go with Darfur again, tell me when did Don Cheadle and George go to Darfur again, when did AJ go to Chad again, how long have stars been talking about it? There ain't no oil in Darfur so it's not critical that it stop.
4she has time because someone is doing her hair, make up, errands and planning her meals for her!
5I hope this would be a good movie.
6I really like that lippy on her!
7Angelina has really come a long way! I remember when I first saw her in "Hackers" and a Rolling Stones video!
8don't think she looks to healthy in that first photo
9I think that is great of her,But what about our own country? I know there is great need in other parts of the world, But there is also alot of issues here in the USA too. Just asking???????
10I agree. I am sick hearing about Darfur. There are great needs
11everywhere even in the USA. She is making money here, when is
she going to quit being so narrow minded. I won't spend a dime
to see her in anything.
nyaradzom, you're funny.
When is it that you're enlisting in the army? We need to
get our oil - somehow it got under their sand.
12LMAO ligaya
!! I ain't ever enlisting in no army, i think war is silly cos it's thousands of men and women dying and killing cos of a few old men's egos.
13damn, mangie looks like death warmed over. and i'm sure she had some help with her "writing." she pays people to do everything else for her.
14I'm just asking too. Just asking why some people think it's Angelina Jolie's responsibility to solve every problem everywhere in the world, including the U.S.? Just asking what about YOUR sense of responsibility? Let's hear what you've done to make things better in the U.S.
Just asking why our government promised us everything would get better, yet our schools, kids' health care (they just cut SCHIP, remember?), senior care, environment, economy has gone down hill for the past 8 years? Just asking where our hard-earned tax dollars went.
Just asking why the government awarded no-bid (i.e., no free enterprise competition, just a giveaway) contracts to GWB's cronies in Halliburton & Blackwater - who OVERCHARGED us taxpayers for services while UNDERPROTECTING our troops with inferior armor?
Bill & Melinda Gates (nobody's questioning them why they've focused on eliminating malaria in the Third World as opposed to say obesity in the U.S.), Warren Buffett, and George Soros have all stepped up to the plate. Just asking why more of the multi-billionare-gazillionares haven't stepped up to help.
Finally, just asking why the government refused to fix the levees before the Katrina disaster happened. No money, they said. But money was found to fund Iraq/Afghanistan. In fact, the Louisiana National Guard was in Iraq, so it was the Georgia National Guard who helped people in New Orleans.
15I'm just asking too. Just asking why some people think it's Angelina Jolie's responsibility to solve every problem everywhere in the world, including the U.S.? Just asking what about YOUR sense of responsibility? Let's hear what you've done to make things better in the U.S.
Bill & Melinda Gates (nobody's questioning them on why they've focused on eliminating malaria in the Third World as opposed to say child obesity in the U.S.), Warren Buffett, and George Soros have all stepped up to the plate. Just asking why more of the multi-billionare-gazillionares haven't stepped up to help. They don't even have to donate 1/3 of their earnings, like Angelina does.
16Actually ligaya, I'm not American, so I'll pass on what I've done to help the US. I'm an African, a Zimbabwean to be precise, and I volunteer at the Matercare International headquarters, they help repair fistulas in young women and girls in Africa. 2) I taught english at the Association for New Canadians which helps immigrants and refugees acclimatise in Canada. 3)In high school I used to go the city orphanage and be a big sister to orphans there. 4) Every year I donated clothes out of my closet to the orphanage at the church in my hometown. I'm going home for the first tie in 2 years and guess what some children at that orphange are gonna have a merry christmas. So that's some of what I'VE done, in my 22 years.
17Well, I will say Angelina did visit Chad earlier this year. She was at a Chad-Sudan border refugee camp. I remember the pictures (the little boy whose leg was chained because he kept wandering) and reading her article in the Washington Post...as for Don Cheadle and George Clooney, I haven't the foggiest idea.
While I do tire of the "We Care about Darfur" speeches...I think the people on the ground (everyday folks, that is) really have NO idea what's going on there. Just as they have no idea what's going on in the other nations of Africa...heck, most of them probably can't name 10 African countries...well, aside from South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria and Ethiopia...that's about the extent of continental knowledge...which is sad, because how can you have ANY compassion for people, when you know absolutely nothing about their culture!!!
18I do not understand how some are offended by celebrities expressing their opinion. Particularly in the U.S., which not only has an overwhelming apathy, but has completely lost the ability to engage in real political public discourse.
Imo, more knowledge and analysis is always a good thing, no matter where it comes from. It seems Marianne Pearl has been a good influence.
19Tia honestly none of these celebs not even Ms. Jolie understands cultures of Africa, and the intricate working of tribalism and racism within people who are the same skin colour in Africa. One country can have hundreds of different tribes, ethnicities and more than 20 languages, their ways and social mores are vastly different too. There is so much more here than just save Darfur, the West has to care but they have to realise that they are dealing with selfish old, greedy men, who will do anything for power. After that you have the people on the ground to deal with and their thoughts and beliefs.
20And in a sidenote to ligaya I'm also going to be human rights lawyer, so Iguess my sense of social responsibility is huge.
Very good point Nyar. I guess in my mind, the problem ALWAYS comes back to institution of Imperialism...not that there weren't tribal conflicts before, but the intrusion of outsiders that set their own geographical boundaries...even grouping together warring factions, or separating families...can really be a starting point to all of these conflicts.
PS: As well as power hungry old men!!! Again, I don't feel comfortable giving money so blindly.
21Nyaradzom2001,
22I think some of us are aware of the differences in culture and identity issues experienced in African (middle east and sub saharan) countries, even some celebrities. In fact, you may find one or two on pop sugar who are making this their field of expertise. While no one can claim to know the culture from the inside, we can certainly gain an understanding of the underlying issues and impart that knowledge to others. If Jolie holds an opinion, I'd be curious to read it - not because she is an expert - but because I value that she is thinking and analyzing these issues.
Tia we actually studied that in histroy there might have been impearilsm but tribalism has existed for so many years and impearilsm spearheaded as they always favoured one tribe over another, which is sad. African nations have had independence for years but none have done anything to get out of poverty, thanks to crappy leaders, can you believe South Africa though it is the richet nation in Africa has doubled its poor in the last decade, we can't blame that on impearlism. I think it's so hard to find a good president in Africa and by that I mean one who leaves his post willingly and like he found it. I totally agree about the money it usually gets diverted into a Mercedes Benz account.
23Nyaradzom, actually I was addressing benna's (and others like her) question about what Angelina has done for the U.S. lately. Angelina is privileged to be singled out for this question; I haven't seen this asked of Bill & Melinda Gates, Warren Buffett, George Soros, Brad/George/Don & other celebrity activists - let alone of celebrities of Britney Spears' sort.
BRAVO, CONGRATULATIONS, you've accomplished a lot in your brief 22 years. Good luck with your future goals.
24Chakra I would rather have those experts on Pop talk about it than someone who has no clue or very little experience and ther are a lot of people on Pop who are socially conscious and are into more than what brand of lippie AJ is wearing which is whyI like it. You can read Ms Jolie, that's your choice and your opinino but my choice is to read and listen to those who know full weel just how hard it is to solve this crisis and have come to terms with it. I just think Darfur is another African tragedy just like thee DRCongo, Uganda, Somalia and the list goes on. You might stop thw "war" but you will never stop the violence. I hate that.
25Ok ligaya. I thought you were addressing me and I hate to defend myself.
26Well, luckily we are getting CitizenSugar soon
27Yay, I love the Economist.
28It can't be soon enough.
29Nyaradzom2001,
30That's fine and I respect your stance. However, gaining expertise in a particular subject tends to build from a basic curiosity, and it seems Jolie has some, Not saying she or anyone who considers the issue will build an academic base on the subject, but you never know.
@ sashak, Lolz!
31She's impressive!
32Thanks Sashak...I can't wait for CitizenSugar...of course it's definitely going to be a hotbed for heated debate!!!
33ooo that would be nice..i love to debate..bring on the fire..

35Sashak and Tiabia,
36Are they really adding "CitizenSugar"?
Wow, wonder if they would consider an IR and PS grad student???? LOL
J/K. I can't wait and totally applaud increasing political awareness and bringing an open political forum to a predominantly female audience. Yay!
It always amazes me that people can find fault with other people for trying to do some good! AMAZING!!!
37thats what I heard!
38chakra_healer,
I believe there was a posting a few weeks ago for a CitizenSugar Editor...and it looks like the position may have been filled...excellement!!! I'm also looking forward to EcoSugar...these are all the things that I'm interested: PetSugar, CitizenSugar and EcoSugar...and I like getting my gossip on, PopSugar

39she has "time" because she has an army of people working for her, for all we know her publicist probably wrote "her" essay and she just approves it. i applaud her for trying to bring attention to issues around the world but she's not a saint.
40she doesn't even have a publicist, but she does have a manger, she also wrote a piece for the Washington Port in February
41nor does she claim to be a saint
42ligaya
Bill Gates gives millions to this country. For those in the know, he even throws a town party in Washington state every year and the tabs totally on him, I know because I've been to one. He's very gracious but does not let it be known that the money comes from him because he doesn't want to put a name behind his money he just wants it to get there and hopefully help. He's been currently working with scientist on trying to stop certain diseases like cancer and AIDS..he said that if he can understand a computer like he does then he can figure out a way to stop diseases, he's trying very hard to make a differnece. He still is trying even though he doesn't have to and still trying to improve a country that has practically stolen millions from him just because he came up with a great idea.
43AshleyDaigh, I think you misread my posts. I gave props to the Gates, Buffett & Soros for their philanthropy. I'd like to see more people in their income bracket follow their example.
44I just read where Zahara's mother is alive and never signed over adoption papers and no wants her back. She said she doesn't have AIDS and obviosly never died. She said she ran away a left the baby with her grandmother because there wasn't a whole lot to eat and she thought with one less mouth to feed Zahara would have had a better chance.
Wonder how this is going to play out? I read where there are already offers from people wanting to Fly the mother to LA to see Zahara.
45*(typo)
46and NOW wants her back
Ligaya
Sorry, thats what I get for reading too fast. You're right, I totally agree with you.
47Seasick, that story sounds like total BS to me...but I know you'll be on top of it!!!
48really, I thought it was weird that AJ said that Zahara was an AIDS infant but didn't have the disease. Oh well, I think that lady doesn't stand a snow balls chance in hell in getting Zahara back, considering the life Zahara is living now, the mother would be a fool to try and take her out of it.
49Just because the mother has AIDS doesn't automatically mean that the disease will be transmitted to the child!!!
