Grey's Anatomy has been a favorite of ours since the start. We instantly fell in love with McDreamy's character. Unfortunately, we can't say the same for Rob Lowe. Lowe has claimed to be "devastated" about his decision to turn down the role that later went to Patrick Dempsey. Here's more:
"(I) coulda been MCDreamy! It's an occupational hazard. It's like BRAD PITT turns down THE MATRIX to go do SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET. It happens to everybody. The great thing is that Patrick Dempsey is so great in that part and he's such a great actor. If I'd have done that I wouldn't be doing this great part and having this fun on (new TV series) BROTHERS AND SISTERS. It all works out."

I didn't think Seven Years in Tibet was a bad choice for Brad. It's probably closer to his heart than Matrix would have been and he's not hurting for the money. Keanu did a fine job in the Matrix.

10I'm glad he turned down the part. I like Patrick Dempsey, I think he made Mr McDreamy MR MCDREAMY if you know what I mean. Grey's Anatomy would not have been the same for me. Rob gives me the creeps anyway.

13I don't think I'd miss an episode of Grey's if Rob Lowe were in it. He is so hot. I've thought so since I was like, 10. Lord, doesn't he age???
There must be such sibling rivalry with Rob and Chad, because you can see the resemblance, and Chad is a nice looking guy, but Rob is just proof to him of what his genes could have turned out to be lol.
Rob is very good looking, but I think Patrick Dempsey is perfect for the part.
14i agree with the comments about the teenage sex video. i don't even know why we pretend to care about the legality of such things in the U.S. all you need is a little cash or a little fame and you can sleep with whomever you choose.
i was kind of surprised when he was cast on the west wing because i remembered it seeming like such a scandal.
but, to tell the truth i could see him in the role of mcdreamy. he and patrick dempsey have the same kind of cute boy crows up looks. you know, those guys who always kind of look like they did in high school, only with some fine lines.
15I had such a crush on Rob Lowe when I was little. He was part of the "Brat Pack", hee hee. I've never watched Grey's Anatomy. I must be the last person on the planet who hasn't, but shows about hospitals bore me to tears.
16not to say that his behavior was anything short of gross and reprehensible, but statutory rape is a strict liability crime, so the person is punished regardless of whether they knew the other person was underage or not... that being said, I too am shocked that the public seems to have forgiven and forgotten.

22No WAY could he be McDreamy. Dempsey is the perfect cast for that role. Rob does have pretty eyes, though.

27And I also think that ever since the video thing, he's grown up alot. I mean---not to say what he did wasn't an awfully wrong thing, but here he was in his early 20's, and part of the brat pack. Life was probably pretty wild back then. Go ahead and crucify me for saying this, but I think men are pretty weak, especially when they're young and sex gets thrown in their faces. Makes me glad I never had a penis, quite frankly.
I hope I'm making some sort of sense here.....it's early in the morning and I didn't get much sleep and I haven't had any coffee yet. *nervous giggle*
