Lindsay Lohan put on a white knit headband to stop by her assistant's house on Friday night. It was an interesting week for LL, who spent Thursday morning serving only 84 minutes of her one day sentence in jail. Back in August most of you thought that she deserved a harsher punishment for her DUIs than one day in jail and ten days of community service, but a lot has changed since then. So three months later, do you think Lindsay is getting off too easy?

im tired of seeing lilo and sh*tney around ....
1Yes! It's all a crock of sh!t. Why does Paris go to jail for almost a month for driving with a suspsended license while Lindsay gets a littel over an huor in jail for driving on cocaine!? It is rediculous. I don't care how clean she is.
2I am in no way defending Paris Hilton, but I just don't get how Lindsay manages to skip around the law? This isn't even just a dui, this is a double dui, with COCAINE. Cocaine is so much different from alcohol, and it does infuriate me because I know that if I did the same exact thing, I would be sitting in jail eating slop and sleeping on a metal bed.
3of course!!!!! f*ck, I guess the only way they'll start being hard on celebrities is the day when they kill someone
4im just sick that the newspapers still publish these stories. this aint news, this is wasted ink
5Regardless of whether she's cleaned up, she still needs to do the time.
And, I agree with fabric2000, I don't like hearing stories about celebrity arrests unless it's for something funny like assaulting a clown. It bores me.
6Ahem, not that assault is funny. Ever.
7But, come on, you'd have to laugh at that.
i know if a normal person had got caught with coke in their pocket, they would have immediately went to jail for a lot more than a day! but i do give her credit for actually cleaning up her life!
8I'm tired of this girl. She's getting way too much special treatment.
9BTW, That is a very odd headband.
A few years ago celebs got off easier because there wasn't so many paps photographing thier every move and internet sites like TMZ digging up dirt on them. So someone could have easily only done a few hours in jail for dui and it go unnoticed. Today, we are more aware of the unjustice going on.
10Celebrity special treatment is nothing new. But it's not the fault of the celebs. It's the fault of the judges, prison officials, and police who become "star-struck" and are an embarassment to their professions. They should have to answer to their biased decisions.
On a side note, Linsay is not pretty anymore. She looks much older than her age and her face carries the look of years of drug abuse. I have a feeling she will just fade into oblivion like so many others before her.
11Seriously, if a mere mortal pulled that sh*t, they'd be in jail faster than you could say rehab.
12The jail in LA are overcrowded its a revolving door. Whether she was a celebrity or not the same thing would have happened no matter what. The only reason they forced Paris to stay longer was because they wanted to make an example out of her. As if saying, "We don't give celebs special treatment", thus making her time in jail unfair.
13Like I said the jail is overcrowded, mom celebrities have done worse than Paris, Nicole and Lindsay and have gotten a smaller sentence than they have ever gotten.
it's such bull... I she had TWO DUIs and COCAINE. I can't believe that paris was in jail for so long for driving on a suspended licence, but lindsey only had 84 minutes. they should have put her away for a while. It's not like her "vacation"/rehab was any kind of punishment. plus i'm sick of seeing her face. her recent movies are terrible. i'm not sure why she is famous anymore...
14but I love her!
15She's clean now but how long will that last? I mean she only had to do 84 minutes in jail. Maybe she thinks she got off easy so it will be ok if she does it again.
16Love her...
17but whats with the head thingy ..
maybe she has a little pump on her head and she doesent want other ppl do see it ... or maybe its a pimple ... or something like that ... ? O_o;
She's a looser
18Jails are overcrowded anyway - especially in Cali.
19She's not exactly posing a threat to anyone, so I say let her go.
You know what, Paris got a raw deal for in celeb treatment... but to be honest, LA's tax dollars could be better spent than providing the protection that celebs need in the lock-up (as we saw with Paris).
At least Lindsay's taking the rehab thing seriously - much more seriously than the other party girls. Let's be honest, Nicole only straightened herself out because of the baby.
20Is it me or does it looks like linds never cleans the upper lip?
21I know everyone is saying how the jails are over crowded, but Believe me when I say that I know first hand that there are people with lesser offenses staying much longer then these girls. the CA jails ARE full, and they say 80% of the people in there are drug offenders. People need to realize that it's NOT a joke.
22And sersiouly, if she was taking this seriously we wouldn't be seeing as much of her as we are. We all know it's possible to fly under the radar, but she craves the attention and this is the sort of thing that addicts relapse because of. If she had a sponsor (and was attending meetings like she should be) they would be having her much more out of the spotlight. And true nicole did clean up because of the baby, but at least she did it. I've seen plenty of pregnant women in the jails, seen plenty of babies born with problems because their mother smoked and drank. It doesn't stop everyone. And sometiems that is what it takes for people to realize the life they're living is going down a bad path.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

24Linsay who????
252 DUIs, cocaine in her possession, carjacking, kidnapping, and she gets 84 minutes in jail. Lovely.
26She is looking as if she is sporting the shadow of a mustache. There before you is a girl who f**in hates herself. She does!! She hates her red hair eventhough it is one of her most beautiful features. She hates her freckles eventhough they give her that JCrew fresh look. You can tell by her skin that the drugs are catching up with her and she is at the mercy of everyone's criticism. If I were her personal consultant, Id tell her to skip the tanning dirt crap that you smear all over your face and try some fresh sheer makeup that will compliment your natural tones. Dump the cheap hair extensions! Makes you look like a Paris Hilton wannabe. Go with your gorgeous red and wear it proudly!!!!!!!!!!!! It will make a world of difference!!!
27The system treated this girl as an addict, and the time she spent in rehab shows she also treated herself as an addict, even though I question how long she'll stay clean. I'm not for anyone getting "off" for a crime, but thankfully no one but Lindsay was hurt by her highly dangerous actions.
As much as we demonize DUI's today in America, my Crim Law prof. reminded us that it is one of the crimes where you get arrested before you have caused any actual harmful act, you are arrested simply for your potential to commit harm. If Ms. Lohan had hit and killed someone while drunk, she would have gotten a much higher sentence than any other murder without intent to kill.
I am writing such a long post because I am just shocked that no one here has a family member that suffers from addiction, and that no one can feel sympathy for her. For full disclosure, my father was killed by a drunk driver when I was in fourth grade. I have no idea how I can still feel sympathy for someone with a problem and the rest of you are so insistent on a witch hunt!
28Oh and for anyone who thinks she really kidnapped anyone, you're crazy, I'm sure those guys were thrilled Lindsay took them for a joyride.
And she looks like a mess.
29i think they should of given her the death penalty maybe than the youth of america that see her as a role model can learn a lesson
30she's a kid, give her a break...i think her biggest offense is that ridiculous tanning mustache...what is the deal? stop with the fake tanning. its gross.
31why should my opinion have changed?
32snowdriver, I'm an ex addict, who'd been clean for 5 years, so yes I understand what she's going through and that's exactly why I said what I did. She is NOT taking things seriously and not taking all the right steps towards recovery. Addiction is demonized in our soceity, period. It began when Reagan was in office to start treating addiction as a crime. It shows when, as I mentioned, our jails (at least in CA) are 80% full of drug addicts, quite a few of them NOT first timers. Our drug rehabillitation programs are a JOKE, and most of the time jail just introduces people to new hookups.
33Lindsay had been arrested once in May then again in July, she had a suspended licence, was in possesion of concaine, and was drinking. I personally know people that have had lesser offences, been the first time they were ever arrested and went to jail for longer than she did. It's a joke to say that she didn't get any special treatment. Of course she did.
This question makes me angry...just because she is supposedly "clean" (I say supposedly because shes relapsed so often that I'll always be sceptical of how clean she is) now doesn't change what she did back then, and she should have had to face the consequences for her past actions just like anybody else would.
34It's bad enough they get free clothes & jewelry but to get a double standard on something as serious as DUI not to mention whatever drugs she was on is just stupid & unsafe and in insult to the adult intelligence in our culture.
35If I pulled a stunt like she did. My license would be pulled & my ass would be in jail. It's total BS.
ok does anyone realize how sh*tty she looks though. Listen we can all b*tch and moan about our sh*tty legal system. But this has been going on since forever. Rich people always get off..celebrity or not. Its reality. And if your a minority holy hell..better be good..but if your a rich minority dont stress..anyway those are my thoughts muah b*tchs
36Definitely. As did Nicole.
37it bothers me that we pay so much attention to it. if she was normal and this happened, no one would even know.
38why doe she always look like she has a mustache???
39Congrats on five years of sobriety Renee. I'm sure you didn't mean to imply that because you weren't treated well by the prison system, and because others aren't that you hope Lindsay won't be treated well either. That would be a shame, because it seems that someone coming from your position could be a force for prison reform.
A prison system that focuses on punishment over rehabilitation for non-violent offenses will ultimately fail society. Yes, California is hugely overcrowded right now with "more than 170,000 prisoners occupying facilities designed for 83,000," which is "more than 200% of their design capacity."
This is from Wikipedia on the section about US prisons in general:
"Some have criticized the United States for having a high amount of non-violent and victimless offenders incarcerated;[13][14] half of all persons incarcerated under state jurisdiction are for non-violent offences, and 20% are incarcerated for drug offences.[15][16] "Human Rights Watch believes the extraordinary rate of incarceration in the United States wreaks havoc on individuals, families and communities, and saps the strength of the nation as a whole."[13]
The United States spends an estimated $60 billion [17] each year on corrections. The population of inmates housed in prisons and jails in the United States exceeds 2 million, with the per capita incarceration population higher than that officially reported by any other country. Because of its size and influence, the U.S. prison industry is often referred to as the prison-industrial complex. Criminal justice policy in the United States has also been criticized for the disproportionate representation of African Americans and other minorities. [17]"
How throwing Lindsay, Paris and Nicole in prison will help any of this is beyond me. Obviously, they should be punished where it is thought that will prevent future crimes, and hopefully Lindsay will get the addiction help she needs.
Flutterpie: you are the reason that America has such a bad reputation.
40Yes! It amazes me that all the crap she did got her a whole 82 min. behind bars. L.A. is effed up.
41The Prison system and Jail systems are different. Jails are run by city or county and are for people serving under a year. Prisons are state run and for longer terms. I just wanted to clear that up because I hear people using the term prison, when in reality we're talking jail.
42The question at hand is not whether our system is wrong or not (which believe me, I have Strong beliefs on), but whether she was getting off easy. I was trying to show that she IS getting off easily. I do not believe drug offenders should necessarily be jailed, I think there should be some other system in place, but as of now, that is Not the case. Well actually to some extent there Are other options, such as CA Prop 36. But compared to the rest of the offender, she, and other celebs, are getting off easier than the regular/non rich and famous people are. And THAT is what's wrong with the picture. The current system, with all it's other flaws, is basically telling society that crimes (DUI, possesion, driving on a suspended licence) are OK as long as you have money and a name. How do you think the other inmates with the same or lesser charges are feeling? They're all calling up their public defenders (or public pretenders as they're affectinaly known) and asking why they didn't get 84 min.
So, snowbunny, no I'm not working on a jail/prison reform. I'm trying to stop the problem before or as it starts by talking about addiction to young people.
If the system is going to be flawed, then it should at least be consistent.
i keep hearing that the treatment she got is the same treatment that all who commit the same kind of crimes commit. In fact I heard Paris got a much harsher treatment than average people normally receive.
43It is unfair! Paris spent more time although Lilo's case is much much worse..it's not that I like Paris it's just that it really doesn't make sense at all!
44soulight, who are you hearing this from? The sherrif dept?
45I promise you, from my personal experience, she did Not get the same treatment as anyone else
It is a fact that Paris Hilton was treated much more harshly than the average person that was violating terms of probation would be. People in the LA legal community were shocked when she got so much time, so was she, since I'm guessing her attorney told her she would not spend much time in jail. I think she really rubbed the judge the wrong way, which isn't too surprising.
Your personal experience, Renee is not really anything more than anecdotal.
Also, yes, jails and prisons are different, but they are part of the same legal system. Also, while I partly criticize the American system as a whole as far as handling addicts, there are some systems that do focus on rehabilitation. I worked in a drug court in Rochester, NY that focused more on treatment than on punishment. Lindsay, and any other person with her problems would have immediately been thrown into treatment. I dont see why LA, with the overcrowding they have, shouldn't be interested in doing the same. Obviously laws like the three strikes laws are very harsh, but they aren't necessarily universal.
It is really a pity that you care more about the fairness of Lindsay's sentence than you care about her or other people with addictions getting treatment. Yes, DUI's are serious (I know, a drunk driver changed my entire life) but she lucked out and didn't hurt anyone, so she should just be focused on recovery.
46thats a stupid ass question POP? is the sky blue..
sh*t if we did her crime we will all be in
jail right now..not serve a hour of community service or 82 minutes...
..and thats the damn
truth
47i'm glad that she's turned her life around (so it seems) but if any 'normal' person were to have done what she did - they would have spent more than 84 minutes in jail. it's just frustrating that celebs can get off.....and LL needs to really make an effort
48Of course she is!
49BUT she's a celeb so it's ok
I'm not going to bother even getting worked up. what's the point?
