Mary-Kate Olsen looks absolutely adorable on the December cover of Nylon but — boo — these pictures come with bad news. Little MK was hospitalized with a kidney infection yesterday afternoon in NYC. Thankfully it's nothing serious, and she should be out before Thanksgiving. In the article MK is a little bit quirky and a lot bit endearing, just like the photoshoot to accompany it. What can I say, I love me some Olsen. Here are highlights:
- On people's perception of her: I wear weird things sometimes. I like to drink coffee. Neither of these things have anything to do with who I am. I am a bit kooky, I am a bit wacky, and that's how my friends know me: It's a happy craziness and they connect with that person and respect me for it.
- On her relationship with Ashley: We're very close, we're extremely close...We deal with so many things every day and we're really the only two people who understand how it feels. I'm lucky to be able to go through these emotions with her — to share it and to know that I'm not alone...Yeah, I mean, my sister and I are so different. I think that's why we work so well together — it's the Ying and the Yang. When she's up, I'm down and when I'm down, she's up. We're always sort of balancing each other out and encouraging each other...It's like talking about friends. You're different than your best friend; you're two completely different people. Although we're twins it really has nothing to do with how different we are.
As biased as I may be when it comes to the Olsens, MK seems kinda awesome. I recommend picking up the magazine and reading the whole article, she totally won me over about her appreciation of art and how she hopes someday to be able to just go out and buy works from her favorite artists, like Basquiat. Since, ya know, she and her sister are totally hurting for cash these days. Aww, get well soon MK!

32The older she gets the more I like her. I'm not surprised at all she had a kidney infection I mean after all she smokes. Hope it's nothing serious. I definitely will pick up the New Nylon. I'm already a fan of her sisters clothes The Row.

Ah, I hope she feels better. I know how a kidney infection feels and it ain't no picnic.
Cync1a: how does smoking cause kidney infection? smoking may lead to many things like bladder cancer, but as far as i know it doesn't cause the infection itself.
"Many people who have symptoms of pain or burning when they urinate, or who have to urinate frequently, don't have a urinary infection at all. Things such as smoking, drinking, lots of coffee, or just nerves seem to play a role."
The smoking doesn't cause the infection, but may produces symptoms that may mimic a UTI. She most likely was used to the symptoms because she smokes and drinks coffee but didn't realize that they were also symptoms for the UTI and the infection spread. The infection itself is caused by bacteria that moved from a UTI into the kidneys.
That's what happened to me.
Anyways, I'm not a fan of the Olsens, but they're slowly growing on me. Maybe because they're maturing. Eh.
