I don't understand: was she driving without a license because it was expired or what?

I understand that her situation is different from most people but that doesn't give her the excuse to run red lights, run through three stop signs in a row, or leave a hit and run. That's inexcusable whether you are a regular person or a celebrity. Some people get away with it but if you are caught on camera then oh well. Britney needs to start caring about her children's safety, her own safety, and the safety of others around her. Her driving is dangerous. She has the money to pay a full time driver yet she continues to do stupid stuff on the road.

It cracks me up that everyone talks about her running the red light. I watched the video and it looked to me like the entire intersection was blocked anyway because of the swarm of paparazzi. I would think it would be helpful for her to go ahead and go rather than hold up traffic all around.

isn't driving without a license breaking the law (it is in texas)? so that would make the "maybe" answer illogical.

I really don't get why in the past year she doesn't know how to drive. I've never heard of any problems until the major media scrutiny. Hmmm...

She didn't have a valid California drivers license. She did have a valid Louisiana license. What she did wrong was the fact that she considered herself a Californian resident and didn't have a valid CA license.

Im sure that everyone who is commenting on here has run a red light and a few stop signs. If it was such a big deal there, then they should install stop light cameras.

well actually she needs to be admitted to some mental institution. thats what she really needs. lock her up and get her treated. she shouldn't be allowed driving around and running loose. who knows who else she might run into!

They should take away her license.The girl cannot drive and she's going to end up hurting someone.Probation is not enough.Why not hire a driver even when the kids aren't there so she won't keep getting into thee situations.

I know that her driving 'situation' is a little different than us normal drivers (we don't have gazillion amount of paparazzi following us, blocking our way, etc), but it doesn't mean you can't abide by the law too! And if it's that bad, she can so afford a driver.

So I think she should be punished accordingly to the traffic law in California for all the things she's done, the same way another driver will have to do/pay. Just because she's 'funky' it doesn't mean she should get special treatment than the rest of us.

I dont know whether she should be on probabtion or not, what I DO KNOW, is that she needs to recieve the same punishment as anyone else who broke the law.

Britney needs to hire a driver...period. Her driving situation is unsafe for herself and for the people around her. We have all seen the videos of her trying to drive with the paps all around her and millions of camera flashes going off...no one can drive safely in those situations. As far as putting her on probation...it is probably the harshest sentence they could find and knowing that she will somehow violate it...maybe they are hoping it will push her to hire a full time driver.

This is ridiculous. Have you ever heard of anyone getting probation or going to jail for driving without a license? In my world people get tickets for doing this, but I don't live in Hollywood and my friends aren't celebrities. I guess they have different rules over there.

She was driving without a VALID license for YEARS!!! This included her driving around with her children...on her lap!!! She definitely needs probation...but can it be like house arrest probation...so that we don't have to see her face far an overextended period of time?

Actually YES. People really do go to jail for NOT driving with a license. Of course, there are also people who have their licenses suspended and lose their viability...but we aren't talking about them...SHE BLOWS!!!

Have you ever been waiting to turn left and you get stranded in the intersection and you have to wait til the light turns red and oncoming traffic stops and then you go through? Similar to this.

These are not limited to Brit. How many other celebs have edone this or gotten in accidents cause of the paps? The government needs to step in and do something.

I am starting to agree with people saying that the paparazzi push her to commit infractions, always there to push her over the edge... I can't imagine having that cloud of bugs following me everywhere, screaming my name over and over, flashes in my face, trying to drive with them in front of my car, trying to walk with them blocking the way, what a nightmare! I would loose it!... I am not saying she is innocent (I have no special sympathy for Britney Spears), I am just saying that things would be different if it wasn't for the paparazzi giving that extra push to an already disturbed girl, in the name of a juicy story.

normally, at least in VA, the only time someone is actually arrested on something like that is if there is reason to believe they won't stop the act or they are a flight risk...ususally it is probabtion, at least in VA...I think thats a pretty common thing.

I dont think she should be on probabation for driving without a lisence. Maybe she should be on it for other things that she has done, but I have never heard of anyone being put on probation for driving without a lisence. In fact I was pulled over a few months ago and did not have a valid lisence (it was expired). The officer wrote me a ticket and let me go. I had to go to court (for another ticket that I got at the same time) The judge charged me for the other ticket (expired tags) and dropped the one for the license (because I got it renewed) So it just doesnt make sense to me why they would even be considering putting her on probation for that, when they didnt even charge me with mine!

I agree coco...I do not care for Britney Spears, but I think that alot of the issues wouldn't exist if she didn't have the paps constantly following her. However, the non-valid license, has nothing to do with paps...it has something to do with her own negligence to get a valid CA license...

I don't understand the whole running the red light incident.

She was a point where Mulholland and Coldwater make an X. She was turning left to continue on Mulholland. She was still quite a distance from her house. How did they paparazzi know she was going to be at that intersection at that time? My guess is she tipped them off.

Also, if you don't have a license, that also means you can't have insurance. Wonder how that situation is?

And, as for paparrazi, you cannot bait and switch. And her behavior is too erratic and profitable for them to leave her alone. If she would actually make legitimate changes in herself (doubtful), in all honesty, the paps would have NOTHING on her and no reason to follow. Jill, I highly doubt she called and said, "I'm going to be at _______________ intersection at exactly _____ p.m. Be there for your money shot!" I'm darn good at being punctual and estimating arrivals and time to run errands but I could NEVER be that accurate. And it doesn't matter if she's tipped them off or not, the fact is they get out of their cars and create havoc REGARDLESS OF WHO THEY FOLLOW.

Only pay attention to what you want to. I'm not condoning her actions, but please know that facts. She has had a valid license, so she was driving legally as a driver, just not as a California resident. When you move to a new state you have to legally change your address, usually done by transferring your old license.

Yes she should mainly because of driving without a license. I watched the vid of her running the stop signs and they weren't even roll stops except for the last two kinda but that is because she had to wait for two cars to go by otherwise she would have gone straight through them!

I drove around on an expired license for 3 months. I got pulled over and the cop had to say this: "Well, you should probably get that renewed Melissa. I'm not going to ticket you for the illegal u-turn or the expired license if you promise me you'll get it renewed."

Disclaimer: I'm actually a really good driver. I just miscalculated the distance between my car and a light. You need to be 100 feet away and I was about 50. I was also working insane hours and just kept forgetting to renew the license.

Also, were you in any kind of accident at the time, caught on camera driving with her child on your lap, driving with your child improperly placed in his seat belt, when you think about this retrospectively, she's been doing some pretty dangerous and silly stunts for a LONG while, and it's time for the loser to pay up.

I think the paparazzi are slime, yes, but as tiabia pointed out, you can't use them when you want, make them tons of money and then expect them to go away. When you walk down the street with no pants on and literally show your bare bum, you make them SO MUCH MONEY! When you let them take pictures of you and your children in your backyard, you make them SO MUCH MONEY! When you strip for them and then dive into the ocean...the list goes on!

Skinny, you are right, she had a valid Louisiana, BUT she wasn't a LA resident, therefore it wasn't valid, so technically, she was an unlicensed driver, no matter where she was. Even if she drove in LA with that license, she was illegal, because that license was no longer good. It's considered void. You cannot legally have a license in a state you don't reside, and thats what she did.

In most states you have to change your address within 30 days or it becomes void, but how often do you see people with licenses from someplace they havent lived in years? All the time.

I know its not necassarly something I would think about, changing my license if I had several residences, so its not as a huge an issue in my opinion if she didn't have a license at all...like it was suspended or revoked, or even an expired LA. Honestly, I dont think alot of people realize that not living in the state where your license is from, makes it invalid. It happens all the time.

SkinnyMarie -- in LA you have to get a CA drivers license within 10 days of moving here, or you are not legal to drive.

From the CA DMV website:
If you are a visitor in California over 18 and have a valid driver license from your home state or country, you may drive in this state without getting a California driver license as long as your home state license remains valid.

If you take a job here or become a resident, you must get a California driver license within 10 days.
