I don't necessarily agree with this whole 'memory card' thing. So, yah the paps trespassed which is illegal, but theft of equipment is just as bad. And when celebs smash these photogs expensive cameras how come they never get in trouble??

Forced them to surrender their memory cards??? I would be like HELL NO...they can't possibly have the right to force that. What a crock....I agree that deleting the pics would be more appropriate.

I totally agree with you guys. Making them give up their memory cards is a little outrageous. They're not necessarily cheap things, ya know?

A photographer can only be required to surrender their film/cards with a court-issued search warrant. If you're a photographer of any kind, I recommend carrying a copy of this http://www.krages.com/phoright.htm in your bag for just these kinds of occasions!
