Katherine Heigl showed off her modeling skills in the January issue of Vanity Fair. She's got that old Hollywood glamor down pat, but we guess she already had some practice at the Emmys. So what does one of Hollywood's most popular stars have to say for herself? A little on movies, a little on TV, and a lot on Josh. Plus, she's not so happy with some of her characters lately. Here are highlights:
- On Knocked Up: "It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.”
To read what Katherine has to say about Josh and Izzie and see more photos of her just read more
- On her fiance Josh Kelley: “I’m not really a first-move kind of gal,” she says. “I’m one of those women who always thinks it’s better to play it cool and keep them wanting more, but I really threw myself at him. I broke all the rules.”
- On George and Izzie on Grey's Anatomy: “That was kind of a big change for Izzie, wasn’t it, after she was so up on her moral high ground. They really hurt somebody, and they didn’t seem to be taking a lot of responsibility for it. I have a really hard time with that kind of thing. I’m maybe a little too black-and-white about it. I don’t really know Izzie very well right now. She’s changed a lot. I’m trying to figure her out and keep her real.”
While we kind of agree with Katherine (especially about changing up Izzie's character), she sounds a little bit whiny. About Knocked Up, Buzz wants to know how you feel about her statement — do you think Knocked Up is sexist?

She read the script before she accepted the part and I got the impression that the movie was intended to be a little sexiest....sometimes...just sometimes I wish she would shut up.
1Im going to make the same comment I made on Buzz
"You know if she found the movie sexist she didnt have to do it She should be grateful for this movie because it really put her name in the forefront. It gave her more fame than Grey's Anatomy has. I guess she thinks she is too good for the movie now?
Movies like this are the guy version of the chick flick. She did not realize she was in a "guy" movie then she is really dumb"
Did she not read the script before excepting the role????
2the pictures are amazing. she is beautiful but i just don't care much for her. she's annoying and a bit self-righteous.
3i love this photoshoot!
4I'm really over the whole "old hollywood" glamour photo layouts. It really seem like there is a serious lack of creativity involved on the part of the magazines.
5I used to like her a lot (mainly because of Roswell), but now she's just getting on my nerves. If she had such a problem with the character why did she do it? She should be thankful she got the part and how it has helped her movie career.
6Obviously she won't be offended by the fact that I hated Knocked Up.
And JessNess, I think she read it, but, maybe she was lacking in the comprehension skills and probably just saw the $$$$$.
7I agree w/ everyone's comments above. She read the script before agreeing to do the movie, it had to be implied that this was not going to be the most PC or accurate movie. But guess what, it catapulted her to the A-list. Before that movie, she was just "that girl from Grey's". I think she's getting a little big for her britches. She should be thankful Judd Apatow took a chance on her, she wouldn't be as nearly in-demand if it wasn't for that breakthrough role.
8she looks gorgeous in this photoshoot
9I have a hard time respecting someone who doesnt agree or respect the parts she plays. Why portray something you don't believe in? oh, thats right, money.
10She does say that "98% of the time it was an amazing experience..." so it's not like she is saying she hated it.
11If she kept her mouth closed 98% of the time, I might actually have liked her.
12I love her and think she is amazing. My favorite Hollywood lady by far.
13She's ALWAYS complaining about something. I bet she wasn't complaining when she cashed that check!
They airbrushed the mess out of these pics. I saw her on Extra or one of those shows at the photoshoot and she barely looked like this!
14Dear Santa,
Please, can you make it so that Izzie Stevens (full name, so you get the right 'person') meets her maker (or Denny, I don't care) in the most violent and FINAL way possible on GA so that I can enjoy the show again? Pretty please?
Thanks in advance.
As for KH, I think Lainey said it best:

15hotstuff, she might be complaining, but she was asked a question, and she answered honestly...I'm glad she told the truth about how she felt, that much I will give her.
16I can not stand this woman. I think she should shut up and go away.
17Really, what question did they ask her? Sounds like her usual b*tching to me!
18This is coming from the woman who starred in "The Ringer", a movie that poked fun at the special Oympics and its athletes?
Please, she just tries to say what she thinks people what to hear from her - I just wished she would shut up! She is not that good of an actress on a terrible show, Sandra Oh should be the star of that show...ugh, go away already
19Katherine Heigl isn't even the "star" of Grey's Anatomy...however she is the character that plays the stereotypically weak and sensitive woman on the show...hence of the fandom.
20*hence ALL the fandom.
PS: I would love just one episode of that show where I don't see Heigl's character being personal with patients, starring longingly at air, blinking back tears, or complaining about being sympathetic...4 years, and I'm still counting.
21She should also shut her yap, she did star in the LOWEST GROSSING MOVIE EVER!!!!!!! 'Zyzzyx Road' IT MADE A WHOPPING $30. She should be happy anyone wanted to work with her sorry butt. She is the LAST person who should talk. Pfft!
22i really hate that she is choosing to disrespect the movie that made her a bankable movie star. she is coming across as ungrateful and b*tchy. damn, she is more like izzie everyday. ugh.
23also, SHE Is the reason i have stopped watching greys.... her and george. ugh, so sick of both of them.
sorry, had to rant.
24she is freaking gorgeous, but past the looks I don't care for her...i sound like a guy lol
25She grossed $30 seriously I think I can make a movie right now in two minutes flat post it on You Tube and make more than her LOL!
26hotstuff,
according to IMDB trivia, it made even less than that:
Only opened in one theater (Highland Village Park Theater in Dallas, Texas) ran for six days, and amassed a final total of $20 (originally tallied as $30, but $10 was refunded to a member of the film's crew who paid to see the movie) in box office takings.
27Wasnt Zyzzyx Road out in 2006
seriously it wasn't for Knocked Up she would not be where she
is now. She didn't like the film whatever but dont diss the movie and the PEOPLE who made your career possible
28LOL, at least SOMEBODY paid to see that crap LOL. She really needs to quit running her mouth while she's ahead!
29I don't know why people dislike her so much!!!!!!
I think she seems like a very talented, INTELLEGENT lady. Face it, the movie WAS sexist. I saw it Saturday, and parts of it left me feeling a bit unsatisfied, and I think she hit the nail on the head. And, as Juju pointed out, she said she was 99% perfectly happy with the expereince, so it isn't like she is trashing the movie. (And I thought her acting was fantastic in the film).
People are hating her character on the show, she agrees with them...and people still hate on her.
I think people just have a hard time hearing a woman have an opinion and not just be like "The world is sunshine and light, giggle giggle!"
30Notice how's she's saying this AFTER the movie's long done and she's been paid the big bucks. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's getting sick of her. Some one needs to tell her that she wont be getting the big bucks much longer if she continues to criticize her projects!
31Believe me I have no problem hearing a woman with an opinion. Considering the fact that I am a woman with an opinion
If she was happy 98% of the time then why even make a statement accusing the creators of the movie of being sexist? These people helped to define her career and put her name out there by even giving her a chance. She should at least have some gratitude towards that. If she was not happy with the way the character was being portrayed then she did not have to take the role. Why backtrack now?
32good lord. she did not have to take the role. this chick has gotten famous off bashing Isaiah Washington. No one even knew who she was til she was "putting him in check" she was always bringing it up in interviews. who the f*ck cares anymore? TR wasn't even talking about it. she didnt have to do the movie. she DID NOT deserve that emmy. why was she one of EW's top 25. all that fame has gone to this broad's head. ugh. i cant stand this b*tch.
33she is also a horrible actress. i wish she would disappear.
34"If she was happy 98% of the time then why even make a statement accusing the creators of the movie of being sexist?"
Because it was a film that discussed male/female roles in our society. I am not going to fault someone for talking about gender roles and how they are portrayed.
"Why backtrack now?"
She talked to them about it while filming. She says, "Why is this how you are portraying women?" That isn't past tense.
I just don't think she is trashing the movie. I think she is just expressing one part of her opinion. Obviously the other 98% that she loved made it worth while to do the project.
Why must we always try and tell women they have to put up or shut up? If George or Matt Damon had a similar comment about their movies, these comments would never surface.
35How about how she went on and on about how they didn't say her name right at the Emmy's? I was watching her in awe like get over yourself!
36Is she trying to make it difficult for people to like her? Her comments at the Emmys rubbed me the wrong way too, with the pronunciation of her name and her whole thing about how she has been working since she was 14 and it totally counts, blah, blah. She just does not come across as likable anymore, at least to me. And I really liked her before the past 6 months or so. IMO she needs to take some pointers from someone classy like Jennifer Garner and quit complaining so much.
37this woman should be thankful that she was allowed to bask in the brilliance of paul rudd and seth rogen.
38Ok, I love Greys!! I do like her but she seriously needs to stop. I just don't get what the fuss is over her. She always has something semi negative to say or atleast it comes off that way!
39Notice Heigl is the ONLY cast member giving her opinion. And I'm pretty sure it's because she fits the blonde "prototype"!!!
40actually tiabia, she's always "the ONLY cast member giving her opinion." remember she's the only who kept opening her trap up about the isiah thing.
me thinks this b*tch is crazy.
41I think people just have a hard time hearing a woman have an opinion and not just be like "The world is sunshine and light, giggle giggle!"
Why must we always try and tell women they have to put up or shut up?
I dont know why you keep thinking that people are telling to just shut her mouth and to not have an opinion
To me her comments are rude towards the Judd Apatow and the other creators of the movie who gave her a chance. Before she was just that girl on Grey's Anatomy.
She never mentioned that she questioned the character to the writers and director at the time of filming. Her tense does not imply her timing of questioning thus I asked about the back track.
If George and Matt want to talk about sexism in their films I would be more than happy to comment on those too.
The film is obiviously a guys film and gets its laugh from guy humor. Like I said before, its a guys version of a chick flick. All of which she was more than likely fully aware of at the time of receiving and reading the script since she is so intelligent. Not everyone film is going to be PC on women's issues and ideas. She was not playing a submissive woman in the film and there really are women who are just b*tches so in reality is she just playing another aspect of women. Her character is not a "The world is sunshine and light, giggle giggle!" type of woman. If she wants to play women who are the life of the party and not b*tches then dont choose roles that have those traits. Its common sense
42At the Emmys, didn't she just say, "Um, it's pronounced Heigl"?
I dont see the harm in that. The announcers only have a very limited list of names they have to read, and it is disrespectful and lazy to pronouce it wrong.
Just a thought...but could so much of this hate stem from the fact that her character is hated? Even before people were talking about HER, they were talking about how they hated Izzie. I dont' watch the show, but I would think her cheating character could make a lot of women dislike her.
43She's making 6 million a film now because of Knocked Up.She read the script before taking the part.Everyone knew as annoying Izzie before taking the role.I like her but she needs to be quiet.
44I'm not sure who annoys me more: Izzie Stevens or Katherine Heigl.
45Im pretty sure most people here can easily separate the Izzie character from the Knocked Up character. They know she is playing two different people.
As someone who has watched her first series Roswell and her current series Grey's Anatomy, I have seen her growth in acting and can positively say it has not been much. IMO she just is not a good actress.
Also in forming my opinions of her statement I in no way took her acting skills or even her comments towards other things (ie Isiah Washington) into consideration. I took it at face value.
46well said, jessness. and i'll to that:
also i think people forget that while her character is pregnant she was still working on ET and even got promoted. i think judd was smart enough to write this in the movie. because usually when a woman gets knocked up she has to do a 180 degree in her career and personal life, but judd actually allowed her to keep working thus breaking down the traditions of a woman.
also if she sees the sexism on that the females are unfunny and humorless, then maybe her character IS supposed to be unfunny and humorless. imean hello she's around with potheads most of the time, do you think an educated, working woman would get the humor of pot-smoking slackers who are running a porn site?
i don't think so. i also think this girl did NOT read the script at all.
47"I dont know why you keep thinking that people are telling to just shut her mouth and to not have an opinion"
Because of many comments like this:
"I just wished she would shut up!"
"To me her comments are rude towards the Judd Apatow and the other creators of the movie"
I just think her comments are being exaggerated and over analyzed, big time. You would think that she was saying she hated the movie and that it was a piece of crap the way everyone is ragging on her. I don't think that a nuanced opinion is a bad thing. She clearly says that it was an amazing experience.
But if you want to hate her, go ahead. Enjoy!
48"and i'll ADD to that:"
49I;m not trying to defend her, but when you're an actor you have to get what you can get. and most TV actors don't get great movie rolls falling in their lap.
I do like that she said what she felt about the movie. She has bills to pay just like us, and it wasn;t too long ago she was on Roswell ( yes, i watched it too, the guys were HOT). So she HAD to take the movie. it's not being ungrateful, it's called having a career where you don't always get that Nicole Kidman/Angelina Jolie movies.
and as for how she feels about Izzie? well, when you're on TV, you go to work everyday hoping you still have a job (your character still alive), so it's good she's saying what she wants, versus, saying something very PR just for the sake of 'us' thinking she's an ungrateful b*tch.
i do admit, she is getting alot of hype, being that she's that girl from Roswell.
