Kiefer Sutherland begins his 48 day sentence tonight after turning himself into Glendale city jail. He is serving his time for his second DUI, this one from September. The actor will get his own cell and have to participate in daily chores like laundry and kitchen duty and will wear the typical orange jumpsuit. He will sadly be spending his birthday and the upcoming holidays behind bars (unless he gets lucky and somehow works the Nicole Richie overcrowded deal to be released early).
The bad news is this is more of a reason to expect 24 not to return anytime soon. As if the writers' strike wasn't cause enough, we can't have 24 without Jack Bauer. Finally, it's too bad we already posted our Best of 2007 Mug Shot Poll because we think Kiefer could have given Shia some tough competition.

6What's sad is that he's stupid enough to be in this situation. He's old enough to know better, and rich enough to afford a driver. I'm a long time fan of his work, but he wins second stupidest celeb award from me. (Britney will always be #1 in that.)
The only good thing I can say about his choosing the time he did was the original (pre-strike) plan was to not disrupt show production so all the people working on it wouldn't be out of work because of him.

12my cousin was in jail when his dad died..I hope they make him stay in , you are so right,luckily this dude did not kill anyone..boohoo so he has to stay in jail for his bd and the holiday,if he would have killed someone ,the family would be left grieving the rest of their lives.

26I hate to say it but that is a pretty hot mug shot. Surely he'll only spend half that time because of good behavior. Also sad is it's not that uncommon to pick your jail time, I unfortunately have had a few friends receive DUI's, some more than one. They were never in jail for more than a week and just had to install a breathalyzer in their vehicle. Not saying that's fair but I don't think the punishments for celebrities are too far different than that of normal people.
