Madonna is no stranger to controversy, and as if she didn't have enough in her life right now she goes out wearing fur. It's tough enough wearing fur these days as a person who's not famous, what with people walking around just looking for someone to dump a red can of paint on. But when a celebrity does it, PETA gets involved and then watch out. Here's more:

Feisty animal rights group PETA is on the Material Girl’s case after Madonna was spotted wearing a chinchilla fur.
Although Madonna doesn’t eat meat, her spokeswoman confirmed that the fur was real, and it’s estimated to have cost $70,000.
“Wearing a coat made of dozens of small, gentle animals certainly got Madonna the attention she so desperately craves, PETA rep Dan Mathews told The Scoop. "But she’s setting a terrible example for her children, who are learning about selfishness and greed rather than compassion.”
Madonna doesn't really seem to care what PETA thinks, she chose to wear fur out on the town with Guy. I guess we know who's going to be on PETA's Worst-Dressed List next year! For more pics just read more

While I'm not a fan of fur either, PETA needs to just shut up. They kill 90% of the animals they take in as rescues, so they have no room to b*tch.
1i know madonna doesn't care what very many people think, that's kind of what makes her so awesome but a chinchilla coat is pretty nasty. =( sad, madonna. sad and gross.
2I still stand by if you dont like it dont wear it but leave everyone else alone. PETA is ret@rded
3I wish everyone would leave her alone so thta i dont have to read about her anymore...she annoys me like Paris annoys most of you!

It could happen!
Celebs are pretty selfish..out of all the fabric in the world they have to wear animal fur..i wonder how Madonna would feel if someone skinned her down and wore her skin as a coat..
5Talk about knocking me over with a feather. I can't help but believe this happened because of pressure from those who have started to accuse PETA of harrassing only certain people. Madonna didn't just start wearing fur.
6lol sarah
7So does peta care about the eskimos that skin animals for there clothes? Cuz i see no difference
8T0x - I know there have been activists that have tried to physically block Eskimos from whaling. So, they are probably anti them using fur too...?
I don't know.
9i think the difference is the fur that eskimos wear wasn't from animals that were raised in factory farms. they weren't confined in tiny cages and abused until their horrible deaths.
10It does seem like PETA has certain people who they do pick on.
11I don't wear fur, but I don't judge people who do.

i also dont like fur i think its just tacky and gaudy but peta has no place to talk they are the lamest excuse for an animal rights group, they kill most of the animals that end up in their shelters and not just the sick animals i mean like all of them, sick people...chinchilla has to be the worst type of fur to wear...it's so expensive cuz the fur is so soft and they have to kill SO many of them to make the coats cuz chinchilla's are not that big...
"stay far from timid, only make moves when your hearts in it and live the phrase sky's the limit."
12i guess she can kiss her friendship with stella mccartney goodbye
13it seems like there has been a lot of fur posts lately...
14i'm staunchly anti-fur but i'm not really big on peta. i don't approve of the whole paint-throwing thing. i think they're one of those necessary shock groups that is simply there to bring attention to the well-being and treatment of animals. not all vegetarians, vegans, and flexatarians are as rude and mean as peta.
15I love Guy Ritchie.
I personally wouldn't wear fur & I definitely wouldn't spend 70K on a fur coat.
16I really hate fur, but not for ethical reasons. I just think animals are disgusting.
17love fur, love madonna. a woman who is not afraid to do what she wants and doesnt give a crap about the opinions of others. I do believe she a fantastic role model for all young women out there. "Believe in yourself, follow your heart, and don't let anyone pressure or intimidate you" best quote of all times.
18and on the fur issue: yes the animals are bred and raised for being skinned, but abused? rofl check for yourself, they are fed and kept very well (better than some of you are living i'm sure). you eat meat? to butcher cows they bash their heads in ... at least for fur they are put to sleep humanely.
p.s. I love Madonna, can you tell? I will defend this lady til the very end
Thank you bluejeanie for your posts. PETA is there to shock you about the truth. Eskimos have long used fur, but jeanie is right, they are not confined to cages that they cannot move in and have to sleep in their own waste. They are not pumped full of antibiotics that all of you eat when you eat meat. Animals that are used to make fur coats are skinned alive. No anesthetics. How you like to be skinned alive?
19You are wrong Mistress....they ARE skinned alive in most cases.
20First of all animals raised in farms for fur are no different than the cattle raised for beef, chickens, swine etc. Also animals raised for fur are very well taken care of, the reason for this is that an animal that is abused, stressed, underfed etc does not have a nice coat and will not be as valuable for its coat. The reason I know this is that my degree is in veterinary medicine and have been working in the profession for more than 13 years.
21I am also a DVM. I have done extensive research on the topic. They are kept in clean cages but they are small, no room to move and they ARE NOT killed humanly.
22Megg, thank you for your professional opinion, and Blondie unless you've seen it happen (maybe in china or overseas like um, totally Canada) your "research" is flawed.
23i didnt mean to ruffle feathers (lol no pun intended peeps ha ha) i was just giving my opinion.
I LOVE FUR, I OWN MY OWN FUR COAT and leather coats. I love red meat, I love chicken, and I love madonna.
I love it all. including life...... and fish
Funny how its mentioned they arent killed "humanly" people they arent humans they cant be killed humanly.
24well...i've been in china and i've seen how the animals are treated in those tiny cages. sometimes they are left in the alleys or on the street. we treat them the same way over here in our meat factories. they're pretty nasty. i don't have a degree or anything in the subject though. i just think it's cruel.
25So fur coats are made in china? Im curious cuz that doesnt sound so fab like the coast are supposed to be. And the abuse comment was dead on, if you abuse and malnourish the animal the fur isnt going to be worth crap.
26How the hell did Canada get involved in this?
~Procrastinate Now! Don't Put It Off~ (Ellen)
27Blame Canada Blame Canada! lol
28lots of cheap (and expensive) things are made in china. girls in china love their fur, they think it's glamorous or something~looks western.
29everything is canada's fault. they're so sneaky, eh?
30I wonder if they fall apart like alot of other Made In China Items. ick. they prolly come out grubby and grimey and need cleaning.
31if you ever held a chinchilla, you would feel reaaly bad. They prob kill thousands for one damn coat.
32i only saw white rabbits in cages, they were pretty filthy. but then again, everything in beijing is kind of filthy. the cages were so small bits of fur and flesh hung out of the spaces inbetween the wire. i assume they clean it before they're made into whatever.
33lol tox
34What is comes down to is that a person needsa to be an educated consumer. If you buy something from a place that is not known for its ethics than you may be helping to further a abusive pratice, but as an educated consumer know where the things you buy come from and if you need to spend a little more on something than do it to know that ethical practices were followed. I love animals and I see many very terrible things happen everyday but animals were put on this earth to help feed and cloth us because if this was not true than human beings would not be able to digest meat. Animals are wonderful and need to be taken well care of but, they should never come before a human being.
35I have a fur coat, but it is vintage & about 60 years old. I'd never buy one but my mom gave it to me & I love it. of course, I live in the south & never need to wear it!
36I think I'd be scared to wear it in NY b/c of PETA
captain cavemannnnn
37FAKE HAIR, FAKE BOOBS, FAKE TANS, FAKE SMILES....you would figure hollywood like everything fake.
im so against wearing fur just because i think wearing dead skin is absolutely revolting. how many animals had to die so madonna could wear that HIDEOUS coat? it wasnt even cute haha.
38fur is for losers when i think of people that wear fur i think of ghetto rappers, obnoxious people that are insecure of themselves or attention wh*res like madonna. i would NOT want to be any of the above
39that's kind of what i think too. it's a ridiculous status symbol. what's even more ridiculous is that most of the people i see wearing fur live where it's nice and warm! why, oh, why does madonna or kate moss or the olson twins need fur? they're not inuit, they didn't hunt it themselves, and it's probably a nice 70 degrees where they are. boo.
40Megg- you are very right about the fact that we as humans are on top of the food chain, and our bodies are made to digest meat, but killing a fox or a chinchilla just to wear it as a status symbol is revolting.
Maybe if I lived on the tundra, I would have a fur lined coat, but I am not an eskimo and niether are these stars.
41I had a chinchilla , it died about a year ago, but it cuter then a mini bunny, and it would crap out these little turd that were cute. Even his poo was cute. I cant imagine killing him as well as others to make a coat just to go out a few nights. Survival is one thing, vanity in the name of murder is another.
42mar , im sorry about ur chinchilla.
43yeah it sucked. They are almost endangered species, or maybe are already Thanks Car!!!!
44Chinellas make great pets..they are so cute. A friend of mine wanted to sell me hers, and I wanted it soooo bad. But, I knew my dog wouldn't interact with it well.
mar, I'm really sorry about your Chinella.
It's horrible losing a pet. And, you're right
everything about them is adorable.
45MistressPsylark - How can you say you "love life" when you don't care about the lives of innocent animals? You say these animals "are put to sleep humanely". Do you not see the absurdity in this sentence? How is it "humane" to kill a healthy animal so somone could WEAR him? You do not know first hand how these animals are treated. You do not feel their pain and know how they suffer. I'll take a wild guess and say that their lives are not so wonderful. And I'll stand on the side of an innocent animal over a self-serving narcissist like Madonna any day!
46Megg I agree with you. I own a fur coat.....I do wear it sometimes. My b/f bought it for me. We also eat meat.
47my family is from russia and in places like Siberia (where my dad is from)... wearing fur is not a status thing, if you aren't wearing it, you'll literally freeze to death.
48Anti-fur?
49Before anyone starts blowing off about fur and the treatment of those animals, I suggest you check and see if you wear leather shoes(even with a leather upper, this includes running shoes, tennis shoes etc.), leather gloves, a leather jacket, own a leather purse/wallet, sit in a leather chair at your PC or at work, eat bacon, pork, sausage, steak, hamburger, chicken, turkey, veal, liver, etc.
Do any of you have kids? Ever gotten them a pair of soccer/football cleats? A decent baseball glove? Do you even own a leather key fob? What about an alligator skin wallet or shoes? A leather belt?
If you can answer yes to even just one of these, your a hypocrite.
It's great that people have something they believe in and are willing to speak out about it, but maybe it would be better if people spent more time fighting homelessness. Maybe fighting companies that are destroying the ozone. How about getting the message out about spaying and neutering animals so we can cut down on the millions of stray animals that wonder the streets. Hey about spending time on fixing the joke that is called education?
Next time you bite into your burger or pork chop, think about how those animals are killed. Beat on the head with a hammer, having their throats cut with a chainsaw so they bleed out.
Dennis Leary was said..."We only want to save the cute animals". "What are you?" I'm an otter, I do cute things. I lay on my back with my feet in the air. "OK you can get on the bus".
"What are you?" I'm a cow. "get the hell out of here"!! "Your a baseball glove".
If your going to fight to save animals, then save them all, not just the cute ones.
Megg-I understand what you're saying about fur keeping humans warm, etc. But now-a-days we have SO many other fabrics that you could wear that would keep you warm. And do you think Madonna is wearing that coat specifically to keep warm? Did she buy it thinking "wow this'll be warm" as opposed to "this will look great on me the 3 times I wear it out"
RobL-I also understand what you're saying...But with cows...at least they're used for more than 1 thing. If cows had a beautiful fur coat on them I'd honestly be a bit less anti-fur. Chinchilla's are only used for their fur. You can't get any meat off of them or (as far as I know) anything else that could be of use.
Eating meat (in my opinion) is completely different from wearing fur. I eat meat all the time. Fur I've never owned or worn. Meat feeds us and gives us essential nutrients we need to keep our bodies healthy.
Writing long comments never works out well for me, so we'll see where I've contradicted myself here lol
