For the next 10 days, we're highlighting our most shocking stories of the year as part of our Best of 2007 coverage. We hope you enjoy this look back at some of the posts and stories that we certainly weren't expecting to see.
While the end of 2006 brought both lifetime highs — the birth of Dannielynn, her wedding to Howard K. Stern — and lows — the death of her son Daniel — to Anna Nicole Smith, everyone hoped that 2007 would finally be a time of peace. Sadly, this was never to be, as she unexpectedly passed away on February 8 in a situation that seemed scarily shady from the get go. From that moment we were thrust into a 24/7 new cycle of Anna stories from the questionable paternity of her child to a judge who was all about the showmanship. No one was shocked when Larry Birkhead turned out to be the father and, somehow, the unlikely hero of the whole mess. He seems to be living peacefully and happily with his daughter now, while Howard K. Stern remains a part of her life. Anna Nicole Smith will always be remembered as one of the biggest headlines of this year, and hopefully in 2008 she will finally rest in peace.

1that was so tragic, but its really lovely to see her and her dad, together he seems nice, shes absolutely gorgeous, i hope it works out well for her.

The crazy thing is...When I saw on t.v. that Daniel had died I thought they were talking about Anna at first. She died soon after. I feel a little creepy.

14wow about that comment Kidoe..i remember hearing somewhere that she always that she'd die early in way like Marylin Monroe. Thats what I 1st thought about when I heard the news-she died just like how she expected she would. creepy!
15Her son's death makes me so sad. And then she died not long after. Such an awful story.

18I think it is a little less erie that she predicted her death like Marilyn, since she overmedicated herself. I don't think she did it on purpose, but I don't think she was using as much caution as she could have, especially after what happened to her son. At that point, I just don't think she cared anymore.

26I felt so badly when I heard of her death, She was a mess, but she sure didn't deserve to die like she did. And I really feel badly for her daughter...hopefully Larry's a good father.
And I agree about Britney, she certainly is going down that same road.
