This evening, George Clooney and Don Cheadle received the 2007 Peace Summit Award at the Summit of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome. It's a big day for George, as he was also nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe for Michael Clayton, but before getting excited about that there were more somber things on hand. The duo was honored for the work they've done raising awareness and money to aid the situation in Darfur through their organization, Not on Our Watch. At the ceremony, the actors were both given bronze statue by Italian sculptor Oliviero Rainaldi. The usually jokey Clooney was anything but lighthearted during his acceptance speech. He said:
"Don and I . . . stand here before you as failures. . . . The simple truth is that when it comes to the atrocities in Darfur those people are not better off now than they were years ago. The murders continue, the rapes continue and some two and a half million refugees are yet to go home. . . . We have an American election coming so this is the time to put pressure on American candidates, because believe me none of these people want to talk about this issue. . . . None of them want to deal with this issue, so right now is the time to place pressure on the people who can actually affect change because we can't."
He spoke to an audience including some of the biggest political figures of our time (and, of course, Miss Sarah Larson), people I'm sure the actors are honored to just stand next to. Clooney recently said that he is headed back to the Darfur region in January. Congratulations to Don and George for receiving this award, and, of course, bravo to them for all the hard work they've been doing.

4Damn, George is gorgeous!
5I love them both. They are two of my favorite actors. We had dinner a few tables away from Don on Valentine's day in Beverly Hills a few years ago.
6Agh please man. It bothers me how everything has been proliferated and saturated with celebrities, it's like to be relevant you must acquire star power and i think it's so sad that people need a bunch of over paid celebs to tell them to do right. signs of the times man
7GORBY!!!!
8Yay for the both of them. And YAY for being around His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
9Good for Don !!!
George on the other hand was so busy feeling his girlfriend up during the ceremony, no class and tacky. Who would take a picture like this?

iam so happy for george and don congarts!!!
11I love my Georgie!!!! he's one heck of a human being! I don't care if you don't like his personal life but there is nothing bad you can say about his works for Darfur. He's just the best and he and Don Cheadle totally deserved this award!!!!!
12What good is celebrity if you can't use it for a greater good!!!! He knows people will listen when he speaks and I'd rather hear about a world issue than who's out all night drinking and not taking care of their kids! I don't care what anyone says....CLOONEY GOT IT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
13..
14I was going to keep my comments to myself, but my real problem is, Does he really care about the people of Darfur or is he using them to improve his image? It is OScar time you know. His actions today and if you ever looked at the film he and his dad made it shows him blatantly try to avoid contact with a group of children who were only try to hug him. He pushed them away, although he tried to claim he had a cold, does he even like black people. I thought he didn't when I saw that. It is sad that you think his improving his image campaign instead of true commitment is good enough. A few photo ops with dignitaries and a speech at the UN did wonders for him. What happens when he tires of Darfur? Does the killing stop because George Clooney's image is untouchable and he doesn't need them anymore? I find him disgusting.
15Wow... impressive!!
16Why he didn't take his father alone with him......he worked as hard as he did on this too.
SmuttyPop: I think that some of what you're saying are so true but I don't think he's prejudice but he's coming off desperate though....he was good in MC but there was some other great actors that was even better than him this year. He needs to lay low and let people miss him b/c he's hurting himself.
I admired him politically but I don't know anymore by some of his tacky decision lately. Sit down somewhere George....please.
17WOW what can I say.......I agree he should have brought his father along and should have been rewarded also with this, instead he brought his high-end Ho ho along for the ride, I'm sure his parents are real proud, how embarrasing....I personally don't care about the individual called George, great he's brought awareness to the world about what's happeing in Darfur and raised some cash big FNK deal, he only cares about getting his dick sucked and not about the lives that sadly have passed due to the madness in Darfur.....if and if he really cared he would have persisted and fought harder, but to him it was all another fase in his sad exsistance, he's gotta be remembered for something when he dies.....good on him, he was quit sucessfull thanks to the BLOOD of others......Just my opinion....
18I'm sorry Don Cheadle congratulation. You seem the only person who are true and with some class. Congratulation again.
19Congrats Don !!!!!
20I love you George!
21It must be great to be his girlfriend--you can quit your waitress job to wander the globe, get high-dollar fashions you can't afford.... Must be an interesting life when you can have a sugar daddy and no goals of your own other than what his are.
22Oh, and good for George and Don. Whatever the cause, like it or not, I appreciate them not behaving like Paris or Britney.
Hopefully I'm not being too grumpy today!
^popsugar, please do something about hearthurt!
23Wow, this couple are always together.
