Yesterday we were totally taken off guard by the news that 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant, and now we have some details from her surprising (and probably lucrative) exclusive interview with OK! Magazine. It sounds like she wasn't expecting the news, and even kept it to herself to process for a while before telling anyone. Plus, she's planning to raise her child in Louisiana so he or she can "have a normal family life." Maybe she learned something from Brit after all? Here are highlights from the interview:
- On learning the news: "It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected...I was in complete and total shock and so was he...As soon as I found out for sure from the doctor, I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody...Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me."
- Lynne on her daughter's pregnancy: "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."
- On premarital sex (why even ask): "I definitely don't think it's something you should do; it's better to wait, but I can't be judgmental because it's a position I put myself in."
Still, wow. Also, Jamie Lynn was supposedly seen going to see Juno in NYC on Monday. How appropriate. In related news, Lynne Spears' parenting book has been "delayed indefinitely." Um, surprise? Britney seems like she's still in denial and I will say that I can't wait to read the rest of this interview — still in serious shock from the news.

I don't think it's *that* shocking. She's not the first 16-year-old mom-to-be, and won't be the last, but... after all the crap with Britney one should think Jamie-Lynn wouldn't take her older sister as a role-model. People should grow up first, before they start to reproduce...

11But is anyone sure that she was living with the guy? I know the rumor is out there. Those photos of them looking at apartments last summer don't mean they were living together. They may never have gotten a place and could have been looking for something for her and her mom to live in that was closer to her location shoots.
12I thought she would turn out okay - learning from her sister's mistakes and all - guess not. I'm sorry but I really don't think Mama Spears should be releasing a parenting book at all, never mind delaying it "indefinitely" when 2/3 of her kids aren't exactly model citizens. Sorry to be so judgemental but a 16 yr old getting pregnant , no matter that it happens all the time , still ain't right IMO.

...I'm inclined to believe the whole living with her boyf deal - If the mom is so adamant about her "not being late for curfew" then it might be because she was shacking up with the dude.

That's almost an adult, so you have to give them a little freedom. Unfortunately Jamie Lynn blew it big time, and will spend the rest of her life dealing with the consequences.

29Wow, some harsh judgement in here. She's not the only 16 year old having sex, so why is everybody acting like she's the spawn of Satan right now? Yeah, she should have been on birth control and/or using condoms. Maybe she was and the condom broke.
30As for the age, they met in high school!! And they've been dating for a few years. So if she met him her freshman year (at age 14) and he was a senior (17ish) there you go. NO trolling for minors, just a regular high school relationship.

And about them selling the story, several tabloids make up story lines like that all the time, this is time its true. why not make some money off it? And they wouldn't be able to sell the story if people like us weren't interested in reading it!

well one thing for certain she is different than most 16 year old girls having babies. and that is money and help. many young mother's don't have that luxury so they have to struggle with raising a baby, trying to finish school and working. the only thing that jamie-lynn will have to worry about is how this will affect her career. and someone made a very true statement. think of how many young teenage starlets who have been in this same predicament and chose another route like abortion.
adoption probably wouldn't work very well with someone famous like her. would it be possible to give a child up for adoption and the raving lunatic paparazzi not being able to find out where the baby went?
i don't know. this is all so very sad but i really hope this precious baby will be loved and well taken care of. that is my only wish.

38Hmmm, Britney lost her virginity at 14 to a guy three years older than her and Lynne was the one who set that relationship up. Anyway, Jamie Lynn is hardly the first one in hollywood to have BC fail her (if she was on it?). It seemed like Bennifer got pregnant shortly after they started dating - then got married. I know there's a difference between two established actors and a girl just starting out but I'm just saying that it's not like much of the rest of hollywood is setting any kind of stellar example for kids. :/
39I dont think this is "Ok" or "normal" but when your in the public eye its better to announce it than have the rumors floating around. Was she supposed to put her show on hiatus and "visit her sick aunt down south" for nine months? Then have mysterious baby rumors floating around her whole life (a la Janet Jackson)
40Well, the proof that she is not ready to be a parent is the fact that she chose to announce this in a major magazine letting the world know. I dont think its a shock to hear of a 16 yr old being pregnant. Millions of unwed teens get pregnant, no shock there. Does it make it okay? Absolutely not. Does it mean that because she did a spread in a mag about it that people shouldnt have judgement against her or her mom(I think its the mother's poor parenting skills..) - People have opinions.
I also dont agree with the comments about people acting like its 1950.I think its okay to have morals, and its okay to disagree with a baby having a baby.
