Ah, even more of Jamie Lynn Spears in OK!, now with the whole spread. Though we've covered the highlights already. Seriously though, you think OK! got enough mileage out of this cover story? Her story is probably already worth that paycheck. A week ago I knew very little about Jamie Lynn's personal life, and now she's making bigger news than her sister. It's still pretty crazy.
As for her other source of income, Nickelodeon released their statement in support of Jamie Lynn, but the fate of her show Zooey 101 is still in limbo. In the meantime, the network may be planning a special about sex and teen pregnancy based on the news. Wow, right? I guess a lot of parents have had to prematurely explain some things to their kids. What do you think, is this a topic Nick should deal with on the air or not? And do you think Jamie-Lynn would ever participate?

Untold
With Zoey 101 being so popular, it would be interesting to see if Nick would actually cancel the show... or write her pregnancy into the show as a life lesson. I think it depends on how bad the media backlash is on this and if the popularity of the show remains high.
1some good should come out of this, make jamie lynn into an example of what NOT to do
2it is an issue that is very prevelant in this country... maybe some kids will learn from this. I went to high school in a very small rich white town and kids got knocked up and no one talks about it. Maybe if this helps people start talking about the risks of having unprotected sex and sex at a young age then its not a completely bad thing
3Jamie Lynn wanted to be on TV so she could ride on her sister's success. And as a teen star I believe she owes her young fans a talk on teen sex and pregnancy. It's sad how situations like this make kids grow up so soon.
4wow.. on nickjr or what? lol
5to be honest, i dont give a rip what nickelodeon wants to do. she all ready skrew everything up, so why bother with the show!
6Nickolo should NOT even give attention to this matter. That's all we need, more teen preggos trying to imitate another piece of sh*t.\
lifeslounge.com
7I'm sorry but not giving attention to issues like this is exactly why this is a problem that teenagers across the country are facing... people need to stop not talking about the risks of teen sex and teen pregnancy and let kids now how serious it is...
8I do NOT think that she should be glorified. The magazine with her smiley face is like, "Everything will work out great for me!". I think that is really bad.
I don't think they should continue Joey 101. I think it would give other teens false hope. But I do think a teen pregnancy special would be helpful. They shouldn't focus on her, though, because her situation is sooooooo different from your average girl.
9God forbid parents have to discuss sex and pregnancy with their children.
10People should stop seeing the "sex talk" or discussing how this situation occurred as a taboo. They need to start explaining to their children how Jamie Lynn got pregnant and how they can prevent it. The teen pregnancy rate is climbing, and that's not due to Jamie Lynn having sex, or parents talking to their children about birth control. When I was 10, my 15 year old cousin got pregnant and had a child. Seeing that occur, when the time came, I took the steps to make sure a similar situation didn't occur with me.
11The scary thing is that Abstinence Only Sex Education is taught in 35% of schools in the US. That is a lot of ignorant kids!
And yes, parents should certainly talk with their kids about sex, especially the morality and emotional portion. But schools should teach the SCIENCE of it.
The sex education my parents received when they were in school was waaaaay out dated by the time I needed to learn about it. Diseases change and develop over time, as does technology like condoms, spermicide, different versions of the pill, etc.
12Kids should get the most up to date information available. And not all parents are there for their kids in ways they should be.
I think that the whole thing is ridiculous. JL is not the first teen to get pregnant and she won't be the last. It's not her job to be a role model to children. Parents should parent their children and tell them about "the birds and the bees" when it's right for them. However, with that being said, some parents DON'T educate their children *as Lynn Spears obviously didn't do for her two girls* and I think the show should air, the whole thing is just disgusting.
13I think its the right move for Nickleodeon. In Linda Ellerbee's hands it will be treated frankly and tactfully. I have enjoyed watching her other shows re: the Clinton impeachment, Columbine, etc.
14I wonder if we'll see her out & about and get "bump pics" or if she'll stay in hiding in Louisiana.
15this is certainly overkill right here, right now.
16One tv show won't make a dent, when most of the coverage about her will be glorifying her in the months to come. For instance the latest article from People Magazine talking about how to dress her! Give me a break.
17http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20167356,00.html?xid=rss-tophead....
I don't think they could write her situation into the show as a lesson without having her character go through a lot of unpleasant stuff, like being socially ostracized, trying to hold down a fast food job while she's pregnant, having the father go to the prom with a cheerleader while she's home with her baby, or other real life scenarios that most pregnant teens face. Otherwise it wouldn't really be a life lesson.
Although in a dark twisted way it might be entertaining to see her character tortured a bit for her poor choices, I doubt Nickelodeon is ready to go there for a tween show.
18I disagree that JL's not supposed to be a role model for children. She signed up to do a Nick show - a KIDS show. That automatically puts her in the role model position.
19Well, since the show is geared towards those between the ages of 8 and 14, parents of the viewers should already be talking to their children about sex and protection. I think hey should also be taught that protection isn't always effective (judging by comments on various sites about this topic, many people think condoms and the pill are fool-proof). I definitely think Nick should air a NickNews special about teen pregnancy. Obviously, it happens everywhere. Kids are learning more and more about sex at a younger age, and are also getting pregnant at a younger age. Instead of shoving the whole "don't have sex until you're married" down the throats of children, they should let teen parents tell about what they're going through. I think more kids would listen to them than people in their 30s or 40s. I mean come one, when you were a child, who did you listen to more? Your parents or peers?
20PARENTS are the ones who should talk to their kids about sex. I do not want anyone teaching my kids about that, its my child my responsibility. Nick knew about teen pregnancy before jl got knocked up and never thought to do a special on it before so give me a break.
The girl had her boyfriend living with her for years, thats not normal! Im surprised her mom is surprised by all this! Anyway, I for one hope JL is not on baby bump watch cause thats just wrong!!!!!
21What a mess!
22oh geez. from the people article...
"She's a young girl, so I would want to keep [her look] innocent," top maternity designer Liz Lange told PEOPLE at the Great Debaters premiere in New York Wednesday night. "I think little cute dresses and jeans with tight-fitting tee shirts. ... She's 16, and I'd like to see her look her age."
riiiiight, because her fashion sense as a pregnant teen is such a relevant issue....
If there is going to be a show, at least make it "real life" with teens who aren't in the Hollywood limelight & who have actual struggles... maybe like a MTV True Life show.
23I'm sorry, but it IS her job to be a role model to children if she is going to parade her TEEN pregnancy by allowing a photo of her smiling like she has the whole world covered to be circulated on a magazine that she went to. This is her time to grow up, accept responsibility and speak out to the loads of young fans she has who will be confused by such a story.
Nothing should take precedence over the parents' responsibilities - but maybe if her mum stepped up, things would have turned out differently. To believe that one's environment has no impact on how people make decisions and grow up is dangerous.
24Jillness, I totally agree, cancel the show, and have a teen pregnancy special..but do not glorify and idolize Jamie Lynn Spears in the process. Scary.
DarkRayne, I saw that article earlier today and rolled my eyes
First off, the title was
LIZ LANGE OFFERS ADVICE FOR JAMIE LYNN...I thought it was going to be good advice about being a young mother, etc. It was about styling her!!! Has the world gone mad???
It is unbelievable, that is what is being focused on. Liz Lange should shut the hell up...yet another person trying to make a buck off of this horrible situation.
25think about it guys.. This isn't lifetime, or MTV it's NICKELODEON. There is NO way they could write this int a show.. And, a sex/pregnancy special, using this as a lesson doesn't seem like the best idea either.. Why not wait until she's had the baby and on the other side of this before making her into a lesson for others. And in the meantime, keep the sex talks in the hands of parents.
26This is a child with millions of $$$ who can afford to have a child, but there are a lot of other children having babies that have a millions less. It will be interesting to see what Nick's position on teenage sex and pregnancy is with their program. Either way it's a win for them as a network but not for the children through out the world that watch their station.
27oh ok, so now we're gonna have CARTOON NETWORKS talk about SEX?????
yeah, there are girls who get knocked up very young, but between the ages of 8 to 14, you should NOT be concerned with these issues.
when i was 14, they girls that were having sex were considered "fast" and innappropriate.
at 14, i wanted to wear lip liner and hoped a boy liked me. I WAS NOT SCREWIN'.
hell, at 16, i wasn't screwin'. I was too afraid to be like those girls (who were "fast" at 14) that were now pregnant.
I didn't want to push no stroller or care about anything except for the latest video on MTV.
i think JL being preggers and Nick giving a special on it will just glorify being knocked up. . . that crap isn't cool . . EVER!
and to the mothers, would you want your daughter to hang out with another little girl who was having sex and gettin' knocked up???
. . . didn't think so.
28Yeah, actually this is Nickelodeon...maybe there shouldn't be a show. But the problem is, it is the parents that should discuss this with their children but it seems that so many don't or are scared to discuss it.
I know my parents gave me the talk when I was like 8 because I started asking all these questions. It was a good talk and I learned about it and was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay older when I lost my virginity and never got accidentally pregnant.
29true, many parents won't do that.. mine didn't, but that also didn't mean I needed to learn it from Nickelodeon.
30I agree with you Asia84.
31I don't think Nickleodeon is the appropriate venue. To be honest, I don't think kids are still watching Nickleodeon when they're thinking about sex. It doesn't matter if they're 11 or 15. If they're sexually active or close to being so, I think they'll have moved on to MTv, BET, etc.
God, I remember the most sexual thing on TV was when Melody (now Mrs. Ben Stiller) held hands with her boyfriend on Salute Your Shorts.
32Best of luck to Jamie.
33"The girl had her boyfriend living with her for years,"
This is NOT true. They didn't live together, that was a rumor made up by Perez that has spread. It is not true, though. Thank goodness they aren't that stupid!
And you make great points, Ginger. They couldn't do a story in a way that would accurately reflect the massive burden and real life tragedies that come out of teen pregnancy.
Would the special they do be a documentary style factual film? Or would it be a fictional story?I guess I am confused on that one.
34yeah, looks like her luck ran out. perhaps a wish for family planning in her immediate future, some parenting classes and a live in nanny so there is a full time responsible adult in the pix.
fed ex must be glad to get away from this crowd.
no tv special based on jamie lynns life. her show should have her character replaced. lassie did it, bewitched did it, she's just another teen actreee; a dime a dozen. next.
35Not every child has parents that will tell them what they NEED to know to survive. It happens all the time. Plus, there is a lot of false information out there. You would be surprised at the number of people who think that the "pull out" method works!
The US has the highest teen pregnancy rate of all industrialized nations. It has been proven in study after study that teen pregnancy is lowest and abortion is lowest is in societies where birth control is readily available and sexual education is well funded in schools. If we want lower numbers of teen pregnancy and higher standards, we need to increase sex education. The facts are scary enough. Let them do the work for us!!!
36shes annoying already. Shes milking this pregnacy for all its worth. Shes sixteen man. I bet her mom is really proud of how she raised her girls. lol If i was part of that family id be pretty embarrased bout the whole thing.
37So in a year and a half will we have to watch her ignore her kids & have a selfish breakdown too??
38what the hell is she doing.
39doesn't her mom do anything.
I'm still in shock...
40LOL it just occured to me that Maybe her idol is her sister. Lol wow that fam is messed. Their mom should write a book on bad parenting.
41i think its a decent idea of nickelodeon to do- i mean i know parents should be teaching their kids but 1) this whole situation is so well known now, Nick taking a stand on it would help, 2) you can never have enough education, parents could watch this WITH their kids and discuss, and 3) what about kids whose parents don't talk to them- maybe some of them would catch this program and learn something on their own. its not a completely bad idea
42She is a crappy actress and her show is pretty bad too... not a loss if they cancel it, which they should if ratings go down hill... its stupid to cancel based on a moral thing... dumb dumb dumb execs telling us how to live...
43The whole thing is so screwed up I can't believe it's real. Lynne sounds mostly insane.
44selfish breakdown
--
lol. Are there unselfish breakdowns? I must know.
45As for a special on teen pregnancy, it would probably be better to have some non-famous teens who got pregnant talk about the difficulties they faced. Any average teen who gets pregnant does not get to sell their story & first baby pictures to OK! for a million dollars.
46jillness, a children's television network is not the venue to go about doing that.
47AND.
I will say, I am a product of a parent that didn't talk to their child about sex. I love my parents, they were great parents, and I am fine. I didn't learn it from Nickelodeon, and don't think that would have been a suitable replacement for my parents IF they would have things like that on.
Bottom line, some parents don't talk to their kids, but it's not up for a cable TV company to take on that role and educate all of america's kids.. If anything, talk to MTV about it, NOT nick.
48I am not sure how I feel about this. As a parent I would prefer to explain and convey the best moral message out of this mess. I must say having my 8 year old daughter ask me "how does this happen, she was only 16?" is not a position I appreciated being in.
As for the special, I find Nick shows are geared to a younger audience and if they did go forward with the show I would hope they would push for age appropriate watching 13+ maybe. At least they are addressing it not trying to hide from the situation.
49I think it's a good idea for Nick to address it BUT NOT on Zoey 101. A Nick News with Linda Ellerbee would be excellent. Have any of you seen these specials? They are done very well, is not condescending, and Linda is very good with the information.
If parents don't want their kids watching an informative show (not Zoey 101) about teen pregnancy on Nick, they should turn it off and do it themselves. I don't think Nickelodeon should be condemned for trying to reach out to kids who don't have caring, involved parents.
