Simon Cowell took some time out from crushing the dreams of young hopefuls to attend Sharon Osbourne's Xmas Charity party this week. There's only less than a month to go before the next season of AI and evidently Simon and Ryan Seacrest are so excited about getting back to work they are actually getting along! Here's more:
"I was just on the phone with Simon, and we were talking about the auditions," Seacrest said at the 10th annual Best Buddies International Miami Gala. "We taped the auditions a couple of weeks ago."
And? "We didn't think we would go out and see the extremes that we saw. There is the extremely naive and the extremely good and not a lot in between, which is good," he said.
Idol will resurface on FOX with two-hour editions on Jan. 16 and 17.
Besides the extremes that Seacrest promises for the outset of the season, the show's executive producer, Cecile Frot-Coutaz, also said that at mid-season a big surprise event would also be revealed.
"Something we're working on is a big-event show, sometime in the middle of the season, something that will blow America away," she tells New York's Daily News. Frot-Coutaz would not reveal more.

I actually can't stand the auditions. I hate to see the really earnest people crushed and I can't stand the fakes.
4I think the auditions are the best part. Is it bad that I enjoy getting a laugh at another person's expense? Oh well.

Ryan has nothing but admiration for Simon you can see it in his eyes....he just winds Simon up because it makes good telly.
My favourite comment from AI was when Simon told Ryan to lose the beard...referring to Ryan and Terri Hatcher.

14I heard that the big surprise thing is a wild card vote that can pull in any old contestants, even from past seasons. I heard this on the radio.
