Renée stopped by Letterman last night to promote her new film Miss Potter. Dave, however, had other ideas. He was very interested in her quickie marriage (and divorce) to Kenny Chesney, and wouldn't let up about it despite the fact that Renée was obviously uncomfortable with the subject. Here's more:
When Letterman said, "Can we talk about your marriage to Kenny Chesney a little bit?" Zellweger quipped sarcastically, "I thought you'd never ask!" The host then said, "Did you kids really try?" Zellweger appeared visibly uncomfortable and said, "It's ok, baby, I can take it. C'mon, let's go. I'm ready!" The star kept trying to avoid the questions, with Letterman asking about the current state of their relationship saying, "Are you still friends with him?" Zellweger said, "Yes, I am still friends with him. Not you, anymore, now we're done! Oh, no, it's all over now. I mean we had a good thing going for years here." When he asked if she had started dating again, she said tentatively, "I like to say I'm not single, I'm just real busy. "I know all the guys in the different frequent flyer clubs around the world. I know them and they're all real nice to me!"
Renée seemed to handle herself okay. It might be awhile though before we see her on Letterman again! For more pics just read more

I think she handled that just fine.
1i liked how renee didn't talk about her failed marriage in public. it gives her class. personally, i don't like telling everyone about all my mistakes in my life, i don't know why she should be expected to.

4That is why I LOVE Letterman..you never know what he is going to do or say..if he will play nice or go on the attack and that is why I have a lot more respect for anyone that goes on Letterman vs kiss ass Leno.
And I will never forget when he made Cindy Crawford cry or embarrassed Julia Roberts right out of her seat.

They do a rehearsal run of most talk shows like that and questions are run though before the taping, so it's pretty rare to be totally caught off guard. Although no doubt Dave tosses in a few zingers here and there, but I don't think he'd intentionally try to offend someone whose decent like Renee. He saves that for Bill O'Reily's visits.

Not on Letterman they don't. I did an article about his show and served as an "intern" there for a bit, they do not do run throughs of anything other than the monologue and pre-taped bits.

I saw this interview. Renee was fine. Letterman was fine. Dave loves Julia Roberts..you can tell. I think she is his favorite guest.
17I love Letterman and I think everyone knows what they're going to get with him and just go with it. That being said, I also like Bill O'Reilly and think he held his own just fine w/Letterman as well.

19Dave Letterman is a hoot. He's a perfectionist, but really pretty nice and genuinely funny. I had a good time there.

celebs know what they are getting into on late night talk shows. it is all in how they ahndle what comes at them. I think Renee did fine. unlike LL's f*cked up appearance on Leno...
