After being evaluated and supposedly having to remain at Cedars-Sinai hospital for 72 hours, ET reports the starlet is home free and was released via an underground tunnel. She was released since she is no longer considered a danger. We just hope she continues to get help since it's clear she needs some love and rest. The mother of two has lost all temporary visitation rights with her boys but her family and Kevin Federline have been by her side and in contact with Britney since her breakdown late Thursday night. Rumors are still swirling as to what mental issues she is suffering from. I'm thinking it's years of light-bulbs flashing in her face. That's gotta make someone insane right? Anyway, as always in this sadness, we just hope Britney gets better!
Update – Many of you are commenting on the Dr Phil story. Yes he was supposedly there but since I can't stand the man's voice I was trying to avoid that part of the story. Apparently, he escorted Brit out of the hospital with her father, hopefully, to help her instead of exploit her on his show. To see Dr. Phil's statement about his meeting with Britney just read more.
He released the following statement to ET: "My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her."

according to other sites she's going to check herself into a psych ward
1Maybe she needed a fix. She was itching for some paps and frapps. or other stuff
2I wish she would of stayed.Britney really needs some help.I hope she doesn't do anything crazy when she finds out she doesn't have custody anymore.
3.. and that's for all the folks ooohing aaaahing about how bipolar/schizophrenic she is.
4according to People.com, she was accompanied by Dr Phil when she left so hopefully he is getting her into a treatment facility that will be less public than Cedars.
5britney britney.. it's 2008 already honey
6I love you Brit. Please get better and be happy.
7
What the hell!?!
8Accompanied by Dr. Phil? Wow.
Any place she goes will be very public. It's just her.
9What???????????????????????????????????
10I just hope this isn't a major P.R. Stunt to outshine her little sister's pregnancy. Other websites and the New York times are suggesting it might be. Dr.Phil are you serious. I mean I get that Oprah endorsed him but I don't know...
11i totally agree with this! i think its the mobs and mobs of papz that follow her every little move! i cant eveeeeeeen begin to imagine what it would be like to have people follow me around 24/7 & with cameras..all the craziness! and they say well shes a celeb it comes with the territory..but this is just out of hand!
poor girl.
12i feel for her
& im praying for her..and as much as i hope the paparazzi will lay off..they never will! and its sad
And after ALL of her family came to be at her bedside and support her, she evidently told the docs "no visitors". I'm a little dubious that she will go get help after the tantrum fit she threw this morning to get out.
13Again...this is just like Head-shave/Umbrellagate 2007!!! I hate to be so pessimistic, but I seriously don't see anything changing. ANS v. 2.0!!! :-/
14Her whole breakdown might have been a PR stunt. (seriously.)
She was reportedly agitated since seeing pics of Paris with Kevin in Vegas last weekend, even though it was just a pr shot when they passed through the same club, and not like they were hooking up. This may have been a jealous fit.
15I wish they would stop media coverage.
16she should not be let out of the hospital this soon, she should have stayed there longer. she will always be a danger to herself, to the kids and to others as long as she gets some REAL help
17So, now can people stop condemning her family and Kevin and assuming they didn't try to get her to get help? They got her to go to rehab and she kicked them all out of her life. They've tried to go to her home only to be denied entrance at the gates. The law took her involuntarily and she still refused to stay and get help.
18I just noticed that one of my posts was removed yesterday regarding someone else's posts about Britney. My post was not vulgar. It just called out someone for not being able to spell or use correct grammar. Anyways I am over this crap with Britney. She used to be a favorite of mine but I am now finally starting to see what money, fame, selfishness, and a lack of education and parenting can do to a person.
19She shouldn´t be released. maybe that doctor phil might help her, if his intentions are really those and not get her on his show.
20There are a lot of conflicting reports. Some say she refused to have her family visit and other say her dad was there. Some say her tantrum came after Dr. Phil's visit and others say that he walked her out.
The reports I've read say she was released because she is no longer a danger to herself. What about others??
21We don't "call out" other members over their grammar and spelling here.
Maybe all publicity on this brat should stop. If she had a breakdown because of the paps, perhaps she shouldn't be inviting them to her house for New Years.
22Dr. Phil is a quack!! He's the spitting image of everything he yells at other people about..Loser!
23This is why she is the way she is! She never has to complete ANYTHING or fix her mistakes! She continues to do whatever the hell she wants.
24thanks hotstuff! that's exactly what i've been saying all along.
25she behaves like a spoiled/rebellious teenager and because of her money/fame/fans the world treats her like one and basically humours her in whatever she does. it's a vicious cycle that's not gonna stop unless the public or her bosses' or her relatives' attitude change towards her.
Can't wait for Dr. Phil's primetime special with Britney.
26Wow, I am sorry I did not understand the rules. I guess the rules just explain everything now. Ignorance is bliss. Britney is ignorant and has no clue that she is acting like a complete idiot. She does not understand this because she has never been "called out" for acting inappropriately. If you think about it most of these girls like Lindsay, Paris, and whoever have never been told "No this is wrong and you are not going to act like this." Not only are these girls stupid but they have absolutely no class or clue on how to behave like a normal adult.
27marybethrizalucy - i think they've been called out for it and even punished (paris in jail) BUT they and the people around them just make excuses and dismiss even the most valid of critism as just coming from "haterz".
28Someone commented on the other Britney post that the fact that the hospital let her go is proof that she doesn't have a mental "disorder." Just so you know, she can only be involuntarily committed if she poses a harm to herself or to other people. If it has been determined that she doesn't, she cannot legally be involuntarily committed, only voluntarily committed. So, her release is not proof that Britney does not have an illness, just that she has been evaluated and found not to be a harm to herself or others. Many people who have a mental illness are NOT violent. This does not mean that she should be around her kids, because her decision making may be very poor, posing an indirect danger to them, as we saw last night.
Yes, this could all be an act. But honestly, what seems more likely? Britney totally ruining her reputation by acting getting involuntarily evaluated, or Britney having a serious problem? Who knows, maybe she is moving to a treatment center, she has the resources to be able to stay somewhere nicer than a hospital (even if it is Cedars-Sinai) psych ward, those places aren't great.
Dr. Phil totally creeps me out. There is no way to not be cynical about his presence there, I don't care how well he knows her family, he could have recommended someone else with more experience with this kind of stuff!
29WTF?who let Brimentaly go???huh??? she should be in looneybin by now!
30Dr Phil?! Whaa--?
Oh well, I guess I'll wait for his Britney Special
31I think this is another example of special treatment to celebrities. I think if I had been sent to Cedars Sinai in an ambulance after staging some kind of hostage situation with my son and acting out of my damn mind, I'd be there the full 72 hours once I was put on that hold. But Britney Spears doesn't want to stay, she doesn't.
I agree with Pop for not focusing on the Dr. Phil thing and I can't stand him either! He's good at selling books and TV shows, but I have never bought him as a good psychologist, and I don't know anyone in the mental health field that I've ever worked with who thinks he's anything more than a joke. Didn't he try to jump in on the Anna Nicole and Lindsay breakdown bandwagons too?
32I don't think her father can do much for her, and neither can Dr. Phil. Get her mom there...I know they've had their differences, but she might listen to her as opposed to her father.
33Annabreal- that's, great, but you'd be wrong. Many of us who have loved ones with mental illnesses CANNOT get them any help when they are having episodes. It's extremely difficult to get the authorities to take them to a safe place because of the laws against that. I think you are misunderstanding the point of the 72 hours...it's not to punish the person being taken in, it's to ensure that they are safe.
As much as it sucks from my end that my loved one gets released...literally back on to the streets with no treatment and not notifying me, keep in mind that our country does try to preserve individual freedom. We look down on depriving someone who is not dangerous, and who has not been convicted of committing a crime of their freedom. We have no constitutional basis to do so. Now, perhaps Brit can be criminally charged for what she did last night, but obviously in custody holdings, unless children are placed in direct danger the parties involved probably try to avoid pressing these kinds of charges. Her behavior will probably cost her to lose custody for quite a while though, and that is what her "punishment" will be.
34Lynn knows that Britney is bat sh*t crazy! I wouldn't be surprised if Lynn's presence only made matters worse. Hmph, if it was anybody else who took their baby hostage and had hours long standoff with police they would be sitting in jail right now!
35Poor Britney. I hope she gets better soon. I think she's her own worse enemy.
36I'm going to go with the New York times on this one and agree that This just might be one huge P.R. stunt. I must have been on a caffeine low last night trying to be all sympathetic .., What was I thinking? Anyone who flips the f*ck out , pulls out her IV, yells and degrades the medical staff who is trying to help you, is an *sshole. That is exactly what I would tell my Aunt who was bi-polar when she was having an attack. I would yell at her and tell her to stop being an *sshole and relax. That's when she would simmer down because if we gave in to her episodes than clearly she would take advantage of us. Oh and Dr.Phil coming to her rescue and trying to help her while asking her to come on his show is suppose to be healthy? At this point she should ask Dr.Doolittle for advice. Oh and she had the nerve to go out on a drive today but then she turned around and went home. The Nerve
37Oh, and can we PLEASE stop confusing and comparing the mental problems of "family members" with the brat that is Britney Spears!!!
38well well well.
drama unfolds.
what's next? any predictions?
39I think she's just exhausted from this past year! She needs to be alone and take a break and get better she needs counseling! She obviously is in no condition to take care of herself or her kids.
40well... conclusion... Britney is not crazy she is just permafried meaning DRUGS DID THEIR JOB IN HER CELLS
41Im really starting to think the media made a storm in a glass of water... what did she did? She wanted to have her kids for a longer time, she violated her visitations right.... well that happens all day long.... is people considered crazy because of that... nooo... girlfriend is just toasted from the drugs.
42People don't stage mental breakdowns as PR stunts. I'm sure she really has a problem and like most people with mental illness she's in denial. She needs to go away somewhere and get help away from the media. I wish her luck and offer my prayers.
43Wow. I'm overwhelmed with all the coverage. A lot of the reports are conflicting.
44My take though is that Cedars released her tooooo early. Especially if the reports of her raging and pulling out the IV are true. How can that behavior be anything but dangerous and unstable. I dont give a crap is Dr. Phil is there or not. She should have been kept there. I hope the reports are true that she's going into some undisclosed facility, but I have seeeerious doubts. I hope she'll be okay.
snowbunny11,
I believe it was I that said that. And that is because I refuse to get on the "Britney Spears has a mental disorder" bandwagon. She is a narcissist at it's very worst.
45I also believe she couldn't stand her sister's scandalous pregnancy sold more magazines than her scandalous erratic behavior.
46hotstuff,
do you actually believe she has "mental problems", cause I just think she is one spoiled brat .... Im on that wagon with you
47Snowbunny - what I was saying and didn't articulate very well is that in the normal world, when you get to the point that you ARE committed involuntarily (in my state it's only for 24 hours for danger to yourself or others), it's involuntary. You're there. And it IS very difficult to prove that for sure, because of preservation of rights of the individual, so what I was saying is that she must have demonstrated that criteria beyond a shadow of a doubt, especially because she's so high profile and the people in charge don't want it to come back to bite them. That's why I think she was able to get released on clout, not because the danger had really passed. That would be harder for an Average Joe to pull off.
48I see, I agree with you on the first part, and I wish that she did have to check in to some treatment facility (if she has problems), but I don't think it would be easier for her to get released than the normal person. If the hospital released her, and she went home and committed suicide, they would be in big trouble BECAUSE of her celebrity status. Remember the whole Anna Nicole drama? If an ordinary person committed suicide, a much smaller group of people would notice, if Britney did something that was dangerous to herself or others, pretty much the whole country would be attacking Cedars Sinai...or at least the media would be!!
49I'm surprised that people actually think this was a publicity stunt =|
