That being said, I do think that actors can get more insight from the job than they would in class. But that's only if the role calls for it. I remember Don Cheadle talking about for the role in Hotel Rwanda, he had to learn a tremendous amount about the history of Rwanda and the current climate, to effectively play the role. His lesson went far beyond just the words in the script. Each time he takes a role, he does a lot of research behind the role to fully understand both the character and the movie.

But I haven't seen Alba in anything like Hotel Rwanda. Actually, I don't think I've seen Alba in anything.

Natalie Portman graduated from an Ivy league college and she managed to do a few roles along the way. LOL
