Over the weekend this new video of Tom Cruise talking about Scientology surfaced and started to make its way around the Internet. The pieced together interview was recently shown when the actor won the Freedom Medal of Valor Award at the International Association of Scientologists. It's about 9 minutes long (fyi, the last minute or so is the best part), and shows Tom talking very passionately about his faith and religion in a way we've never quite seen before, including some classic quotes and that laugh. The video was probably never meant to be public, but now that it's out — what do you think about hearing Tom open up about Scientology?

Hanky Panky
Seafolly
I couldnt even make it after he said that its a privilege to be a Scientologist
"You have
to earn"
yeah by giving tons and tons of money. Im not one to make fun of religious beliefs
but seeing as Scientology is more of a cult created by a science fiction writer to make money and avoid taxes and the government by calling it a religion I feel completely free to say what a
load of sh*t!!!!!! Anyone who think Scientology is fine just needs to look at Katie Holmes. She use to be a cute bubbly woman and now looks and acts like an empty shell that sort of
physically resembles the original person. Thanks Scientology brainwashing!
1gawwwd ! can't he just shut up
2these people want to be gods themselves. they want to have all the power and be the savior. come on, a simple analogy of driving by a car accident is NOT sufficient enough to explain and establish the validity of a so-called religion. it is absolutely empowering to be equipped with a sense of purpose, and i can understand why people go for scientology. but that sense of arrogance is almost unrealistically spartan. it makes me angry that he would feel so entitled to look down on everyone else. please, stop taking yourself so seriously.
3One of the reasons I started getting really annoyed with Tom Cruise (besides the fact he is one of the actors whose overacted performances I can't stand even if I try really really hard) is exactly this whole Scientology thing. I still can't forgive/forget what he said about Brooke Shields, postpartum depression and the entire Psychiatry profession. And that ridiculous couch jumping interview did not help at all...
4Ok I skipped through it and his crazy laughter is SCARY!!!!!!!!!! I guess Tom thinks that he is the only one who can save the world....one maniacal Scientology laugh at a time
5Few minutes? Try a few seconds.
6I don't understand the vitriol reserved for Scientology. I don't see the difference between watching people like Sherri Shepherd, Patricia Heaton or Elisabeth Hasselbeck talking about their faith ad nauseum. I for one, believe that faith is private and don't particularly want to hear anyone speak about it. But, it strikes me as somewhat intolerant to always dismiss Cruise's beliefs because they are not mainstream. I think a lot of religions have cult like dimensions, not just Scientology.
7Seriously, crazy delusional people scare the sh*t out of me.
8JessNess, I was going to mention his laughter. Oh My, but I could not watch everything...so he laughed crazy like always, didn't he?
9Hopey- I dont practice any religion and about 99% of the time choose not to discuss it. Believe me I dont want to hear about Christian beliefs most of the time either. But the thing about Scientology is that it is extremely public and seems to seriously change people. Its practices are very very very cult like in its brainwashing. Also its finical practices are very shady. I think if you do research on the history of Scientology then you realize why so many people find it and its followers CRAZY. I mean when you have some countries banning the practice of it you know something is up
10This is totally creeping me out!!! esp the part about everyone depending on them! Personally I do not want or need to be saved by Scientology!
11eveday- I just clicked at random times in the video and seemed to hit all the times he was laughing. He would be talking very quitely like he is lost in thought and then just break out in extreme laughter....kind of creepy
12*quietly
13i can't take him seriously when he laughs. i'm happy for him that he's found something he believes so strongly in, but it seems to be a bit much for me.
14eh, its whatever, free country we live in. If he wants to believe in aliens and such, so be it. *that wont stop me from saying, FREAK!!!!*
15Few minutes? After ten seconds I had to stop! This whole Scientology thing is getting scarier and scarier - actually, it's not even a religion but a cult. A religion usually isn't after your money - religion just wants your soul.
I only wished, people would stop talking about their "beliefs" - specially in public.
16ding-dong! did someone call for a straightjacket!??!
17I've never heard someone say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with more intensity. He's babbling nonsense. I made is half-way through - what the hell is an "SP"? It's all jargon. I feel badly for him - he's been heavily brainwashed. It's too bad he's won't allow himself to live his OWN LIFE.
18Yikes! That is all I can think to say!
19what the hell does he mean by "creating new realities"?!!?!!
the fact that he kept bringing it up scares the crap out of me.
20that was a bunch of bull.
21I think it's wonderful when people have convictions. That being said, fanaticism, in any shape or form, makes me very very afraid.
What is SP?
22I mean seriously people we need to wake up! those freaks are on a mission!!! Run i tell you run!!!!!!!
23i mean the mission impossible tune playing in the background said it all...........WOW freakin scary! they come across as its our way or the highway.......ya a very inviting religion that 1....
24For those of you who talk about most religions being about money, how false! Every religion has tithing as a crucial part of its survival. I am not defending scientology at all, but I also wouldnt defend born again christians and other fundamentalist organizations.
25"they come across as its our way or the highway..." liflowa i agree. i bet that's their mission statement on the brochures they give away to people.
26Nobody said that most religions are about money. I know that I said that Scientology has a huge basis in money specially when you consider all of the tons and tons and tons of money Scientology brings in. I mean just look at the Celebrity Center of Scientology in Hollywood it reeks of MONEY. Other members are paid to bring in recruits. The cult has its own cruise ship for goodness sake!
27That was absolutely mind-numbing.
28marybeth, I think the thing with Scientoloigy and money is that they REQUIRE you to have all these readings and attend classes and such in order to 'advance' your faith. Well these classes and so forth cost hundereds and thousands of dollars to do. So it really has nothing to do with tithing, but rather you are forced to pay to remain a member of the 'church'.
29Creeps me out! Tom's enthusiasm is fanatical like 'I'm going to strap a bomb to myself because your thought conflict with mine' fanatical. Throw me back in the giant volcano with the nuclear bomb cause the first one didn't take!
When will the space clams be coming Tom? That's what I always ask the Scientologists I meet. That and so...um when exactly are you going to tell the Christians that you think that Jesus was a false memory implanted in human minds by an evil alien overlord Xenu?
By the time most people get to that point in Scientology training they've sunk in hundreds of thousands of dollars.
AS far as their code words-SP Supressive Person - anyone who isn't a scientologist ie all or most of Tom's fans. nah - "A person whose means of advance is through the opposition or suppression of others. The definition is asserted to include anyone who actively opposes Scientology."
My favorite Scientology term is one you never want to her them use against you - FAIR GAME. It means - they will do everything in their power to kill you. No joke. They say they've ended this practice but what modern day religion actually starts off with this sort of practice. The definition "A status formerly assigned to those whom the Church of Scientology officially declared to be SP. An October 1967 policy stated that anyone who had been declared "fair game" "may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist [and may] be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed. The term "fair game" was abandoned altogether by the Church in October 1968.However, the Church has retained an aggressive policy towards those it perceives as its enemies, and argued – unsuccessfully – as late as 1985 that retributive action against "enemies of Scientology" should be considered a Constitutionally-protected "core practice" of Scientology."
The actual document on Fair Game written by L Ron himself is available through the Freedom of Information Act because the FBI had an extensive file on L Ron and Scientology and why he founded it.
One of my brothers was a member but he couldn't afford the classes and my family refused to pay so he got kicked to the curb. At which point we began to wonder what sort of "church" bases membership solely on ability to pay not on willingness to believe.
30There is also the fact that Hubbard, the founder, is quoted as saying "If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion"
tried to ban webpages about Scientology from being
viewed through search engines like Google
and
There is the fact that the "Church"
BTW I know all of this because I research things before I talk about and criticize them
31
Why must people always bash the born again christians..
and Cults are very very scary..Jehovah Witnesses are crazy too..
32one word: NUTTER! really sounds like he has a god complex.
it is really shocking b/c he sounds like he really believes what he is saying.
scientology was created by a fiction writer! and has a "celebrity center"???
33Wow, he babbled on forever about absolutely nothing - he kept repeating the same thing over and over. Maybe I'm just a "spectator" and don't get it. Phew, thank godness I don't get it. I guess whatever works for him...
34OK that creeped me out..His insane laughing at the end..
35Creepy.
36It has multiple celeb centers. Here is Celeb Center in Hollywood. It seriously is a CASTLE
37WTF is he talking about? Nothing he said made ANY sense to me! I know it was just pieces of an interview but I don't think watching the entire thing would clear anything up for me. I just get the impression that Scientologists think they are above the rest of humanity and they are the only ones that can save the rest of us.
I also would like to know, how has Tom helped others? Aside from pulling his Hummer over to help pull a car out of a ditch or making pasta carbonara for his family I have heard nothing of great things he does in the world.
38ok i could not make it past a minute and thirty seconds. lets break down that small segment that i unfortunately had to listen to:
1. when defining who a scientologist is, tom says "he...and then he quickly catches himself and says "or she..." hah yeah good thing you caught yourself tom otherwise people would think that you degrade women...oh wait YOU DO!
2. apparently you have to earn the right to be a scientologist. hmmm yeah im just confused about how tom got that priviledge...
3. he says that a scientologist improves conditions. im pretty sure that buying your 2 year old daughter christian louboutin shoes is not improving the worlds conditions. but thats just me.
39
OMG Jillness..that thing is frickin huge.
40What does he DO?? I mean I never hear about Tom Cruise DOING much of anything other than promoting himself. Hmmm...
41It's so sad that such a charismatic person is stuck spouting off this psychobabble. He could be using his talent, and money, for things that are so much more useful in this world.
42what really goes on at the celeb center..Me thinks it is just one big party..
43a) he freaks me out
44b) he DOES sound brain washed
c) he has the creepiest laugh, ever.
d) kind of wish i never watched that.
Wow. I am 43 years old, somewhat cool, and totally laughing out loud over this freak. Please, where does one begin in analyzing his patheticness?
First off, the laugh/cackle total freaks me out. He's such a bad combo of all the characters he's played...It looks and feels totally false and
What's with the sports analogies in that ridiculous diatribe of dribble? "Spectators", and either "playing hard or getting off the field"? Is he joking? How freaking unsophisticated is that? He has the insight of a 12th grade jock.
Come to think of it, I think this makes sense here because he made his first big movie "All the Right Moves" or whatever is was called, when he himself was 18, and that's where any REAL life experiences stopped. Easy to say such things when you've lived half your life as a major movie star. What a freak.
I could go on forever...but I have to get back to the real world.
45By the way...isn't interesting that not ONE person chimes in on behalf of Scientology??????????
46
sorry JESSNESS..I always get your names mixed up
47dont worry about it
48the way I look at it is this. Every religion has it's extremes. I don't agree or believe in scientology and I think it's ridiculous, BUT if people DO believe in it, that is their right. I'm a spiritual person, NOT religious and I look at religion as a spiritual blanket. Someone figured out what helps people through the day, wrote it down and created a religion. Whatever gets you through is awesome, whatever religion it is. There are always extremeist that make relgions look bad, while plenty of people practice the same religion without being crazy. Tom is one of those crazy ones.
49how comforting to know that if I ever have an accident, I just need to wait quietly for a Scientologist to come along and rescue me!!!
very creepy and disturbing...for someone who is so opposed to psychiatric drugs, he seems medicated, no? maybe it's too many electroshocks from the e-meters...
