How do I love John Mayer, let me count the ways. . . . With all the flack that Jessica Simpson has been getting lately, her ex-boyfriend John is not the first person I would guess to come to her defense (well, to be fair I guess Eva Longoria did first, but she was kinda just talking about herself). However, John Mayer took to his blog last night in an incredibly sweet way to defend Jess and her Texan prize. He said, in an entry titled "Don't Ex With Texas":
Dear Dallas and Surrounding Areas,
This isn't a sports blog, and it isn't a publicity stunt. (but have at me if it feels right.)
This is about doing what I think is right as a person, in this case speaking my mind.
I have never known anyone to have more pride in their home state and their upbringing in it than Jessica Simpson has in Texas. I don't really follow sports, but I have played some of my biggest and best concerts in your state, and having witnessed how dynamic the spirit there is, I'm betting emotions are running high right about now.
To read the rest of his entry just read more
All witty barbs, blogs, and fashion policing aside, that girl loves Texas more than you know. It's one of her most defining traits as a person. So please don't try and take that away from her. (You probably wouldn't be able to, but it's less work for all involved.)
I just thought it would mean something coming from the guy who has the absolute least to gain from this. And if I'm out of line in having written it, too bad. I can spare a Wednesday's worth of bad press if it means sticking up for a good soul.
JM
I think it's incredibly sweet that he came to her defense, not because he had to but because he was just sick of hearing people bash her in the press. I can just add that to the list of reasons (along with the hotness) of why John Mayer is so a favorite these days. He kinda just seems like a good, decent guy. Do you all think this is as awwww-inducing as I do?

I think he does have a stake in this: HE WANTS BACK IN JESSICA'S PANTS...
1I love John Mayer ... Jessica Simpson, not so much ... but still it's incredibly sweet that he came to her defense.
2these two attention wh*res deserves each other.. nick was asked baout it and had no comment
3good for john and jess.
4John Mayer is a fugly douche bag. He only writes these blogs because he needs attention. He just needs to shut up and record some more cheesy, craptastic music.
5As a JM fan, I think it's incredibly sweet.
6I love me some John Mayer. I thought it was too sweet of him.
7that's nice of him to say - but to be honest - he's lost his clout in my eyes - so i'm not sure that his endorsement is really all that helpful right now
8I really didn't have an opinion of JM before this. I don't really see the cuteness some people seem to see but I also didn't think he is a douche bag. However, I think it's awesome for him to say something about Jessica. Too often we get the "no comment" thing and it's refreshing to hear from someone WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS HER say something nice about her. Go John!
9LaurenG22 - do you read laineygossip? She had a whole post about it and I can totally see it too!
"Why are pr*cks so predictable? And why are some girls so dumb? Bet your fake t*ts Jess is moved by John’s lovenote. Bet your hair weave she’s also pathetic enough to use it to make Tony Romo jealous. Because Jessica Simpson is That Girl. And it’s the kind of lame ass move her father would be proud of."
10So true!
11Wants back in her pants
Woop, hahaha nope, I don't read Laineygossip or whatever- just PopSugar.
seriously
though, he wants her back... well he AT LEAST wants her boobs back for a couple hours...
12Wait..they're actually bashing her in the press? Regarding her relationship w/ the QB, right?
How come I don't notice this... I know that they love talking about the vacation they took in Cabo, but I thought it was as much as criticism toward the UNWISE decision made by the QB, and she just happens to be there (well, for publicity stunt beside 'vacation').
13I am not a big JM fan but i think that it was sweet that he did this. It is ridiculous that everyone is blaming Jess for a football team losing - it was the WHOLE team that lost not just Romo. And about the vacation thing it's not like other players didn't take a vacation also. Get over it!
14I think he got some bad press recently for being a committment-phobe and so he's sticking up for her. Meh.
15I believe he is sincere in what he has written. I don't believe he wrote it just for attention or to get back into Jessica's pants. I believe he is truly a nice, regular guy and think it is incredibly chivalrous of him to come to her defense. He gets nothing out of writing this other than standing up for a girl he once had an intimate relationship. There aren't enough guys out there who would do something like that and I personally am impressed.
16Jess should go all after school special on the media and explain that its not JUST tony's fault the cowboys lost. After all there is no I in TEAM.
17that's pretty sweet of him
18The only thing I can see coming from this is, he'll probably wind up always being "the one who got away" in Jessica's eyes.
19i TOTALLY agree w/ you Leilanic1
20This is the same ass that denied their whole relationship and played "Don't Believe the Hype" song on his site when people first heard of their relationship! These attention wh*res need to take a nap.
21i agree with hotstuff
22i think thats so decent of him sticking up for her. she obviously is very patriotic and i think thats a really great trate to have. thats very sweet of him, he suddenly seems alittle sexy...
23Patriotic?? I think that is only something you have for your country...Not the state of texas... I could be wrong...
24hotstuff - JM wants to take a nap on her "dirty pillows!"
25I just think he's great. Seems like a really down-to-earth kinda guy...in all his blog posts. Like someone you could totally chill out with, and not have to worry about acting like someone you're not, you know? I think it's sweet what he did for her. I'm a fan -
26Yes, he's the one that said don't believe the hype. They are both media wh*res. He seems he's just looking for attention.
27I'm not a John Mayer fan at all, but it's nice of him to defend Jessica.
28that's really sweet..good to know not all of hollywood is self obsessed and that some do care for others and have a heart..
29unfortunately for john, a majority of us texans (i would venture to say...though not speaking entirely on texas' behalf) don't feel the same way about jessica. and it doesn't have anything to do with tony romo. romo screwed up by going on vacation when he should have been concentrating on the playoffs; jessica's just the easy target b/c most of us don't like her (and her affiliation with our state) anyway.
30isn't this a tad late? it's not even relevant anymore but it was nice nonetheless. I do have to say that although J. Simpson isn't one of my faves, the blame she was getting for a team's downfall seemed unwarranted. Those Cowboys fans have a way of never looking at their own team for the blame.
31No, I think he's a fart who shouldve stuck to concentrating on his MUSIC instead of his...
fame?
32Being in PR I don't see where JM went wrong.
If it is a sincere gesture, his stock will go up because everybody loves a bad boy (if you can call JM that) with a nice streak. AND it is incredibly sweet.
If he just wants to get back in her pants, again good move. J. Simpson TOTALLY seems like the kind of girl to be "moved" by a love note, or in this case, blog.
If he just did it for publicity, mission accomplished.
33That is sweet of him, but I still don't like him. Something about him just irks me.
34Lately i have been thinking that JM needs to just shut his mouth...but this was truly a super nice thing to do. I dont care much for Jessica, but its true that she has always supported her home state. I found it so ridiculous that football fans could actually blame her for losing the game. What a crock!
Good job John....im sure that Jessica is doing an "Awwwwwwwww" right now.
35I believe John Mayer is the biggest manipulator there is. I do not honestly belive he was sincere when he wrote that comment. He is banking on people thinking that his gesture is "sweet". I for one am not buying it. I'm not a huge Jessica fan, but i don't think she did anything wrong; neither do I need to blog about it, knowing that other media sources will pick up the story.
John Mayer has no credibility in my book, he's just like most other people in hollywood, looking to cash in where he can. I don't see Nick running to Jessica's defense, and he was with her for 7 years.
IMO
36No no and no.... still Jessica's fault
37aww that was nice of him to stic up for her!
38Someone does something nice and they get attacked...ouch. Some people around here make Perez Hilton seem like a sweetheart
39I thin that John Mayer is a great guy I really wish things had worked out with him and Jess....then she wouldn't be going throught this at ALL.
40Also the COWGIRLS anyway and if it hadn't have been the giants it certainly would have been green bay. GO SKINS!!!!!
41I meant to say:
Also the COWGIRLS SUCK anyway and if it hadn't have been the giants it certainly would have been green bay. GO SKINS!!!!!
42Very sweet, I think.
43I will say it again....to those football fans who blame Jessica Simpson for the Cowboys losing. GROW UP and GET REAL! How grade school is it to place blame on someone like that? I dont like Jessica much either...but this has to be one of the reasons why i dont watch sports. People involved get way too butt-hurt about it when their team loses.
44Jessica Simpson sucks and this whole situation is entertaining. I love sports. I am not a Cowboys fan. I saw this coming. Romo should not have gone on vacation with anyone. The fact it was with her makes it too funny.
45Judging by the comments some people have left, its obvious that none of you have actually read his blog. You know, the one meant for his fans and friends? The one where he posted this little note? It's hilarious to call him a publicity wh*re, since it takes other people to actually lift his words and post them or a link to them on their sites. If these words got out, you can blame the bloggers out there.
He has always seemed intelligent, talented and down-to-earth. Not to mention funny (something also missed by those of you who have never been to his blog). Its refreshing to see someone do a nice thing for someone who has taken the brunt of a bunch of crap that should have been meant for the Cowboys. They were the ones who had their *sses handed to them, the last I checked. Its also disturbing to see how many cynical people there are out there who assume that there is ALWAYS an ulterior motive. Especially the one above who actually had a problem that JM didn't announce it to the press that he and Jessica were dating. That's not being a publicity wh*re, that's being discreet.
46Wow, a lot of you people who commented are really rude. This is obviously a nice thing that one person did for another, and I admire that. If you think his intentions were bad, you are probably a really pessimistic and depressing person!
47* oops i meant

49We don't have to read his blog to comment on this story. This story is here (regardless of how it got here) and that's why we are commenting. I didn't like him before this blog and reading it didn't make me like him after. Celebrities know exactly what will get them in the press..his oh so desperate attempt to mention the publicity he will get at the end of his blog just goes to show you he knew that would get talked about. So yes..I, like some others, would call that a publicity wh*re.
