i said it on my blog and i'll say it again, i cannot get enough of that angelina painting.
i don't believe having her pose as The Virgin is supposed to be her representative of her virginity, but rather the fanaticism over her beauty and good deeds and celeb worship in general.

That's why "Wal-Mart" is under her because she is seemingly unattainable and above everyone else... like bluejeanie said, it has to do with celebrity fascination.

Angelina has done a lot of great things to help others. But comparing her to the woman who gave birth to the son of God is a bit extreme. There are a bunch of other people who do great things for others (police men, fire fighters, doctors, etc.). It's sad that these 'normal' people do not get the same amount of praise that everyone seems to be giving Angie.

if the painting and comparison wasn't extreme then no one would talk about it. i think comparing her to the mother of god is perfect. the woman named her child "shiloh neavou" or something didn't she? that means new savior, i believe. the god complex society has with celebrities has even gone to their heads.
angelina has done wonderful things with her fame and fortune but she is widely worshiped on blogs.

painting her as the mona lisa wouldn't be as effective. nobody really knows very much about the mona lisa and everyone "knows" everything about angelina. she although her beauty is praised, it's her charity work that gets all the crazed fans.

Regarding Evangeline Lilly's complaints about all the attention she recieves: I'm sort of sick of celebrities complaining about lack of privacy. If you don't like it, quit, because it sort of comes with the territory. I got an idea. She can switch jobs with me. I can be on a hit TV show and make lots of money and do nothing but read scripts all day, and she can have my job at the Bank and deal with people complaining about service charges. I think that's a fair trade. I'll take all the celebrity pressure off her little shoulders for her and she can open bank accounts for people. Think she'd go for it?

I think they meant Shiloh as "His Gift" or "God is great" or "peaceful one" which are some of its translations and Nouvel after Brad's favorite architech Jean Nouvel. But that is speculation on my part.. maybe the french translation as new so His new gift.. a gift to them..a gift to Brad certainly.. his long a awaited child and a girl to boot!

If you go to the artist's website she clearly states that this painting is a social commentary on America's obsession with celebrities. On how our culture is "deifying celebrities" and are how are culture is "worshipping" celebrities. Just check ou t the number of tabloids, blogs, etc. devoted to all thing celebrity. We are visiting one right now. She chose Angelina and the children as her subjects because of the extreme media attention given to the birth of Shiloh, Angelina's looks and her relationship with Brad. The artist doesn't believe Angelina to be the Virgin Mary or Brad to be God. She's just making a point through art that things are getting out of hand in hopes that the public starts to put things in perspective.

Also, Brad and Angie have said they interpret Shiloh's name as "peaceful one".
