The premise of Rabbit Hole can be summed up in one sentence: a married couple grapples with their grief eight months after their young son, Danny, is killed in a car accident. John Cameron Mitchell's drama is heavy to say the least, but versatile performances from Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart as the couple in question make the film heartbreaking in an engaging way, rather than overwrought and emotionally manipulative.

On the surface, Becca (Kidman) and Howie (Eckhart) seem like a picture-perfect couple. When the movie opens, housewife Becca is making dinner in their gorgeous kitchen as good-natured Howie arrives home wearing a suit and a smile. Within a few minutes, we realize that Becca and Howie are just putting on an act, and though the spouses are doing their best to get back into an old routine, the film's message is clear: when you've lost a loved one, you can't ever go back. But how do you move forward?

Nicole Kidman had husband Keith Urban by her side last night for the NYC premiere of Rabbit Hole. In the intense drama, Nicole plays a parent dealing with the loss of a child, and the role is already getting her lots of Oscar buzz. Nicole was asked about the potential for another Academy Award win yesterday, and she said, "You never know and you just hope for the best. I suppose the biggest thing for me is that the film connects with people, because I feel very strongly that the film is special." She has received other accolades so far, starting with a Best Female Lead nod at the Independent Spirit Awards. Nicole was joined on the red carpet by costars Sandra Oh and Aaron Eckhart, who both moved on to the afterparty to pose for funny photos. Jon Hamm also showed his pretty face, and interesting new haircut, with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt. Nicole and Aaron apparently struck up quite a friendship while working on the movie, and now she's excited to find him a nice lady so he can finally put his bachelor days behind him.

Ryan Gosling brought a special lady, his mom, Donna, as his date to the second annual Governors Awards in LA on Saturday night. The birthday boy celebrated his 30th at Disneyland on Friday, and while he's had plenty of memorable onstage moments in the past, the evening was all about the honorees like Francis Ford Coppola and Eli Wallach. Sofia Coppola came out to support her dad alongside Natalie Portman in a gorgeous purple Lanvin gown, a Marchesa-wearing Hilary Swank, and Elle Fanning in Valentino. The ladies were joined by guests Stephen Dorff, who recently showed off his shirtless physique, Justin Long, and Josh Brolin, who stuck by his red-hot wife, Diane Lane.

Hasn't Hollywood reached its saturation point with alien disaster flicks? Apparently not, because next year will bring Battle: Los Angeles. Set in 2011, the film follows a series of events as extraterrestrials raid Earth, and one country after another succumbs to their attacks. Aaron Eckhart stars as a Marine staff sergeant trying to protect LA — the only city still standing. Bridget Moynahan also appears (apparently as the movie's damsel in distress), along with Michelle Rodriguez, who will be doing her signature tough-chick shtick.

The film sounds like typical blockbuster material, but the trailer bombards the senses (in a good way). They've packed in an insane amount of special effects, the music's incredibly eerie (and surprisingly moving), and we get just a peek at the alien life forms without giving too much away. I'm convinced, how about you? The movie lands on March 11, 2011, but watch the preview when you read more

Just the thought leaves a lump in a mother's throat. It's impossible to fathom how parents deal with losing a child, but they do — they survive. In John Cameron Mitchell's latest film, Rabbit Hole, Becca and Howie Corbett (Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart) cope with the unexpected death of their young son. It looks to be a compelling film; when it hits theaters in December, will you go see it?

Get your hankies and Oscar predictions ready: Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart play parents who have suffered the loss of a child in Rabbit Hole, and the trailer is as bleak as you'd expect it to be. Kidman and Eckhart are Becca and Howie Corbett, a picture-perfect couple whose lives are shattered after their son dies in an accident. The film, an adaptation of a Broadway play, traces the aftermath of their grief and their forever-changed relationship, with Sandra Oh and Dianne Wiest providing support.

Rabbit Hole generated buzz for Kidman's acting and the film on the whole when it opened at the Toronto Film Festival, and though it looks like an emotionally traumatic experience, I'm eager to see it. Both stars are capable of exquisite performances, and I'm curious to see how director John Cameron Mitchell (best known for Hedwig and the Angry Inch) handles it all. Watch it when you read more

Leonardo DiCaprio was back at LA's Staples Center yesterday to cheer on the Lakers as they played the Celtics in game two of the NBA finals after his big Saturday at the Spike Awards. Unlike the first matchup, the home team ended up losing with a final score of 103-94. Their famous fans were still enthusiastic, with Justin Timberlake even leaping from his seat in excitement. JT brought a guy friend along while his girlfriend Jessica Biel was off hitting the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards. Kim and Khloe Kardashian were there to cheer on Lamar Odom, and Anthony Kiedis took things in alongside Aaron Eckhart. The celebrity basketball enthusiasts will be able to relive the action tomorrow night, when the Lakers and Celtics face off again in Boston.
