The Adorable Husband-and-Wife Duo Behind "Let It Go"

You've probably watched every "Let It Go" cover by now and know the words to the original by heart, but you might not know much about the adorable husband-and-wife team behind the hit song from Disney's Frozen. First of all, they're now Oscar winners — Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez won the Academy Award for best original song on Sunday, and their big night was full of sweet moments, from the red carpet and the stage to the press room and even Vanity Fair's afterparty.

It was clear that the couple, who met in 1999, are in synch when they accepted their Oscar with a rhyming (and singing!) speech that had everyone in the audience aww-ing. "Let It Go," which Idina Menzel performed during the show, was just one of eight of the couple's songs that were featured in Frozen.

Kristen and "Bobby" have been married since 2003, and have been collaborating on work projects even longer. When we spoke to them on the red carpet, they talked about their writing process, which includes taking walks and "a lot of carbs." Bobby later shared backstage that Kristen "has been in the background all of my work — you know, every single show that she's not received credit for, she's been whispering in my ear the whole time. So, I'm glad that she is finally getting credit for being the amazing artist that I've always known that she is."

Kristen and Bobby have two daughters, Katie, 8, and Annie, 4, who have both seen Frozen countless times — and are even featured in the film. Their youngest daughter voices the baby troll. The girls got in on the Oscars fun by sending their parents off before the show and crafting a special necklace for their dad out of pasta in the event that he won. Kristen presented the homemade "EGOT" necklace to him in the press room since Bobby's Oscar win makes him an EGOT winner as well — having also picked up an Emmy, Grammy, and three Tonys.

The duo finds inspiration in their children and wrote "Let It Go" to "instill in them the idea that shame and fear should not prevent them from being the magical people that they really are." The song was one of 25 that they originally wrote for the film, but it wasn't their first time writing for Disney — they also wrote six songs for 2011's Winnie the Pooh. While they often work as a team, Kristen and Bobby also collaborate with others — Bobby co-created the musicals The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q and Kristen helped create In Transit, which debuted Off Broadway in 2010.

Despite Kristen and Bobby saying that their post-Oscars plans included "sleeping," the couple showed up at Vanity Fair's Oscar party triumphantly showing off their awards. They later headed back to the house they rented with their family in the LA hills, where they spent the last few days while away from their home base in Brooklyn. Kristen and Bobby plan to return to the East Coast and get back to work on their next endeavors, including the musical Up Here and multiple movie projects.
