Adam Brody and Alia Shawkat play siblings in the new dramedy The Oranges, opening on Oct. 5. I recently sat down with the pair to chat about the film, in which their onscreen dad (Hugh Laurie) begins an affair with the neighbor's daughter, played by Leighton Meester. Shawkat opened up about her lack of real-life family drama during the holidays (unless you count her mom getting too drunk and playing the piano), while Brody came clean about the fact that he hasn't seen Arrested Development. Speaking of Arrested Development, Shawkat gave us a little scoop on the upcoming revival. Watch!

The Oranges Trailer: Hugh Laurie Has an Affair With Leighton Meester
Life is swell for the Wallings and the Ostroffs in the trailer for indie comedy The Oranges. The two West Orange, NJ families are thick as thieves, until the patriarch of the Wallings family (Hugh Laurie) is discovered to be having motel rendezvous with Nina Ostroff (Leighton Meester), the 24-year-old daughter of his best friend (Oliver Platt). The revelation throws a wrench in the families' perfect suburban coexistence. Stern parent-child talks ensue, punches are thrown, and incredibly inappropriately photoshopped Christmas cards are sent out.
It's kind of weird to see Hugh Laurie embodying anything other than House's crippled curmudgeon demeanor. I know he had a career before House, and will presumably after, but it's still an adjustment. Having said that, this trailer has sold me on the movie. The situation seems realistic, but the characters are clever enough to make it heartbreakingly funny, rather than just awkward. It's also got a stellar cast that includes Alia Shawkat, Catherine Keener, and Adam Brody. Watch the trailer for The Oranges when you read more
Buzz Time Machine: Adam Brody Stars in Growing Up Brady
With all the buzz about his new film Damsels in Distress, we were thinking about how much we loved Adam Brody back in the day. OK, still do. We did some digging to see if we could find anything from his pre-Seth Cohen days, and guess what? We struck gold. Turns out Adam got his start playing Barry Williams in the made-for-TV movie Growing Up Brady, though it will heretofore be known as Growing Up Brody. In this scene, he's finding young love with his costar/onscreen sister (it's The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco!), to the tune of "Crimson and Clover." You're welcome.
Adam Brody's Pickup Philosophy: "Seduce and Destroy!"
Adam Brody is back on the big screen in Friday's Damsels in Distress, a movie about a group of college girls seeking to improve the mental health of their classmates through unconventional means. Adam plays Charlie, a suave guy who irks the ladies by attempting some old-fashioned pickup moves. At a recent press day in NYC, Adam told us about his own dating philosophy along with his costar Analeigh Tipton. Adam also addressed the odds of his return to TV like his former The OC costars Rachel Bilson and Ben McKenzie. Riffing on the plots of Rachel's Hart of Dixie and Ben's Southland, Adam proposed a rather interesting series for himself.
Pregnant Jessica Simpson Parties With Friends in Palm Springs
Jessica Simpson is in the final weeks of pregnancy but that didn't stop her from making the trek to Palm Spring last night for an engagement party. Jessica was joined at the bash by her fiancé Eric Johnson, sister Ashlee, Cacee Cobb, Donald Faison, and Adam Brody. Eric stayed by Jess's side throughout the night and chatted with Ashlee's boyfriend, Vincent Piazza. It's the second weekend in a row Jessica has gathered together with loved ones. Friends and family threw Jessica a baby shower last Sunday. Following the pink themed bash Eric was spotted loading up the car with tons of gifts, including more than 20 pairs of tiny shoes.
Adam Brody Retreats to Puerto Rico For His Latest Job
Adam Brody shook hands with a fellow actor on the Puerto Rico set of Welcome to the Jungle yesterday. He's currently on location in the Caribbean shooting the comedy with costar Kristen Schaal. The pair are lured to the tropical island in what's described as a company retreat gone awry. Adam's got a highly scheduled year coming up. He recently wrapped production on Lovelace, starring opposite Amanda Seyfried and James Franco, and next up we'll see him sweep a lucky girl off her feet in director Whit Stillman's Damsels in Distress, which opens in limited release on April 6.
Trailer: Greta Gerwig Tries to Help Her Fellow Damsels in Distress
Just in time for Valentine's Day comes the trailer for Damsels in Distress, which follows a group of college ladies determined to save depressed girls and set them on what they deem to be the right track. Greta Gerwig leads the pack, and Analeigh Tipton (who you may remember from Crazy, Stupid, Love) is the wide-eyed newbie that Gerwig and friends are determined to make over. This isn't your typical Mean Girls-style group though: the ladies seem genuinely interested in helping people (and also, there's tap dancing).
The preview is reminiscent of many movies we've seen before (Clueless immediately come to mind), but it's more deadpan and perhaps a bit deeper than those types of comedies. I'm not totally in love with Gerwig as the queen bee, but I am most definitely on board with Adam Brody as Tipton's off-limits love interest. I was also excited to see some familiar faces like Aubrey Plaza and The Office's Zach Woods added to the mix.

Jessica, Justin, Jon, and More Celebrate the Men of the Year
Jessica Biel stepped out to support her boyfriend, GQ Men of the Year honoree Justin TImberlake, and the rest of the handsome guys who earned the title last night in LA. It was also JT, Jessica, and Jon Hamm's second night in a row partying at the Chateau Marmont, but this time they were joined by everyone from Jay-Z and Jimmy Fallon to OC costars Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie for the star-studded soiree.
Jay-Z was fresh off a week in Miami with his pregnant wife Beyoncé, who was spotted in a bikini for a yacht trip over the weekend. Last night, though, it was all about the guy time as he had an animated conversation with Justin and Jimmy inside the bash. JT is also wrapping up an exciting week since just last Saturday he went to the Marine Corps Ball, and this weekend it's his fellow (wo)man of the year Mila Kunis's turn to attend her military gala.
Check out more from the event including Minka Kelly, Kellan Lutz, Michael Fassbender, Jay-Z, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, and more.
