All the Ladies Come Out For Costume Institute Gala

Just when we were least expecting it, here is the "Poiret: King of Fashion" Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which just happens to be the most celeb-packed red carpet we've seen since The Oscars. Seriously, how did all these folks get to NYC so quickly? Here are some of the ladies, but check out the gallery below to get the full splendor. In general, the women looked smashing on the arms of their dates (if they had one) -- be they boyfriends, husbands, or esteemed older gentlemen/designers (like Ashley Olsen on the arm of Christian Louboutin himself). Anna Wintour must have been a happy hostess.

I must say that I am especially proud of my Olsens. Ashley looks hot hot hot, but MK is holding her own, too. On the other side of the spectrum, Kirsten and Kate Bosworth apparently got the wrong memo and thought it was an actual costume party. Also, is Jennifer Garner 39 feet tall? Who knew! Finally, Jessica Simpson is a little overtly sexy for my taste, but oh well. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of this party! What do you think of all the ladies fabulous looks? Vote Here

I really went against the crowd here with Amanda Peet. I think she looked great. America looked pretty, but it was a really safe choice for me. (did I just sound so 'American Idol' or what?) She didn't really stand out of the crowd at all. Anna Wintour looked great except for the S&M sort of black pleather at the top of her dress. I understand it was meant to be a risk taker, but ugh. I would have loved it if the metallic went all the way up. Ashley Olsen was such a pleasant surprise. I love that she was rocking the b&w look, but I wish her makeup would have been a little less neutral. Glad it wasn't over the top bright though, so I can live with the neutral look I guess. :p She looked really classy! Brooke Shields should have shown a little more skin. She didn't look like she was dressing her age at all, more like she was dressing her Grandmother's age. I do like that she added those bright orange earrings though. Overall, just way too boring for me. I loved Cam's look. The bright color of the dress & jewelry brought out her skintone and amazingly didn't clash as one would have thought that color combination would have. Her makeup was subtle without being boring, and her hair looked great. She is in such great shape, she looks incredible. Camilla Belle looks like she has an urchin leeched on to her chest. Can't really say much more about her look because I couldn't see past it. Cate looks like one of those gold pillows on my grandmother's couch with all the tassels. Or a chandelier. The color is nice on her though, surprisingly, and I like the shape of the dress. I think that with all the fringe, the dress would be a super cute mini. As for her hair, I like it in the full body shot, but when you take it into consideration all by itself it looks disastrous. I don't think I would be able to carry on a conversation with her at all. I've always disliked Chloe Sevigny, ever since I got to see the disaster that was 'Gummo' if you ever get a chance to see this movie, you'll understand. She has such a manly look about her and understated makeup doesn't do anything to help her cause at all. She looks much better when she wears dramatic makeup. She'd look even better with a bag over her head. As for the dress, I love the color, but hate the shape, especially on her. If she wore something that clung to her, maybe she'd have a chance of looking like a woman. I hate the shoe choice too, such a springy green color should never be paired with a dark shoe, let alone those hideous things. Also, is she pregnant? Because she definitely has a huge bump. Ginnifer Goodwin's gown is ill-fitting and I hate that clutch. Christina Ricci: love the look, hate the hair. Get some highlights! Has Christy Turlington ever looked anything less than incredible? I love that color on her. I applaud Claire Danes for making a big statement, and I actually do like the dress, but she should have worn her hair down and picked different makeup. Debra Messing looks like a mess here, which is odd considering I normally love her look. Wish she would have went with a better fitting gown. Ellen Pompeo looks great, except for the fact that the dress is so ill-fitting. She could have definitely benefitted from some straps, but other than that, she's absolutely glowing! I've never been a fan of Eva's style and think that here, she could have gone with a different colored belt. I hate that her hair always blends in with her skin, it's such a disappointment because her skin and hair are actually very beautiful if you take them into account on their own. Her makeup always looks the same, dark eyes and light lips, so I love to see her mix it up and try something different. Overall, definitely a boring look for me. Also, is that a POCKET? EW. Gisele...normally...I love her look, but that dress does nothing for her at all. I love that she's rocking the b&w and think it looks great from the side, but from the front it's a disaster. I always can count on that girl to pull something crazy on the red carpet that no one else could get away with and make it look incredible. I can't believe I actually like something that Juliette wore, but that dress is actually really flattering to her shape and skin tone. I hate the hair and headband, but am willing to look past it because what she normally would have worn would have made me gag. :p Karolina looks great when she takes that dead animal off of her. Love that shade of rose on her. And the fit of the dress is incredible. I don't get the wrap at all though, that totally blew the outfit and made her look nasty. Surprise, surprise, Kate Moss looks like she had a bowl of cocaine for breakfast. How someone that does that many drugs can look completely worn-out all the time is beyond me. This dress does nothing for her non-existant figure, but I can't imagine that there is anything in the world except for rehab that would do any good. Wowza, Kelly Ripa always looks fabulous and this time is no exception. I love her look here, somehow the color blending doesn't look bad at all. I think one reason she always looks great is that smile, it's so infectious. (Having Mark hanging on her arm doesn't hurt either.) I normally love Kate Bosworth, but hate this dress and think her hair does nothing for her at all. She looks like a woman jumping out of a cake to me. :p I do like that she took the risk though, and think the color of the dress and her makeup are both fabulous. Kirsten Dunst.....no words to express the hilarity of this outfit. I can't even believe that people think Jessica Simpson looks worse than she does. It's not like she's ever worn anything that -wasn't- ill-fitting, but this...whole 'notha level. She really needs to be put out of her misery, stat. Lindsay Lohan looks incredible! This was one of my favorite looks for this event. Liv, yikes. The color is bright and pretty, but I hate the fit. I hate the lipstick with the dress, it's just way too severe. A pretty light pink and she would have aced it. A belt would have helped a ton, too. Love, love, love Lucy's look here. Posen always makes my heart skip a beat and this dress looks like it was made for her. Something was amiss with the makeup, but I hardly noticed because she looked so fabulous with that gown. I don't know how, but Mary-Kate definitely pulled off that dress. Even her subtle makeup made me smile. I can't believe what amazing things that dress did for her figure. Though I always wish she'd wear something other than black, I think she really hit the mark with this one. I love Misha's look here and I'm so happy she didn't try to pull off some hideous 80s look. She looks fresh and the dress seems to fit her very well. Molly Sims manages to make herself look afright yet again, I think I've rarely ever liked anything she's worn on the red carpet. She takes the fashion risks a step too far every time. She'd look great on the runway, but she needs to remember she can't work that strut on the crowded carpet. Her hair is always the same, and what happened with her makeup? Powder city! You're not supposed to be able to -see- it. Naomi Watts is pregnant, so I'll let her slip with this one. It does nothing for her shape though, and we all know there are some fabulous maternity looks out there, so it should be no excuse. I love Renee Zellweger here, but she always looks great. It would be fun to see her in something risque or daring. She should have worn Jessica Simpson's dress. Rhianna looks like a nut with those black gloves, but other than that she looks great. She's really a looker. Rosario bores me for some reason. I always forget about her as soon as I'm done looking at her picture. That dress leaves something to be desired as does her hair and makeup. No risk taken what-so-ever, nothing to remember. Salma is beautiful and perfect and normally there is nothing I can say but the same thing goes for her as for Naomi, she might be pregnant, but that's no excuse for wearing something that does nothing for you. I'm pregnant and have managed to wear color and better fitting clothes, thank you very much! Sandra Bullock always makes me swoon, and here she looks fantastic. I love this color on her and love her hair & makeup too. If I ever need a stylist, I'm calling hers. (Did I ever mention my mother looks exactly like her?) Scarlett Johansson: trashy, just like I expect this Courtney Love look-alike to end up. Hate the way her hair matches her dress, hate the fit and length of the dress, just hate everything about her. I've always disliked her look though, so this isn't any surprise to me at all. Taye Diggs' woman is pretty and I like the fit of her dress, but it was the wrong color and was completely boring. Winona Ryder just looks insane. I'll take her arm candy though. My favorites were Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz, and Lindsay, MK, and JLo. Haha, longest commentary ever.
