It's a very exciting time for Angelina Jolie! After being spotted with a ring on her finger at a private event last week, the newly engaged star stepped out for the first time in public yesterday since her happy news was confirmed, giving a wave and a smile as she showed off her gorgeous diamond. People magazine is reporting that the ring is over an estimated 10 carats with a price tag as high as $1 million, but perhaps best of all, Brad worked with the jeweler for a year to design the sparkler himself.
But Brad and Angelina's engagement isn't the only reason she's making headlines. As of this morning, the actress is also taking on an exciting new role.
The Goodwill Ambassador has been promoted to Special Envoy for the United Nations Refugee Agency, which means Angelina will play an even bigger part in helping refugees, a cause which has been close to her heart for the past 10 years. As for the reason for Angelina's new job title, UN spokesman Adrian Edwards told reporters:
"Her work does go substantially beyond what we would typically see as being the normal role of a goodwill ambassador . . . I don't think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she is getting for the plight of the world's displaced."
With her new ring and her new role, it's clear that for Angelina, both were worth the wait.
