Anonymous Comments Are Now Open on PopSugar!

It's been a long time coming, but finally anonymous comments are enabled on PopSugar! We love hearing what all the registered users have had to say for all these years, but we also want to give newcomers a chance to weigh in when they stop by without necessarily having to register.

We still have rigorous monitoring in place — TeamSugar will be making sure that everyone abides by the rules of conduct, and we have new filters in place to keep the comments clean and constructive. Plus, in order to comment you always have to enter an email address. Whether it's a controversial subject or gushing about our favorite families we're always looking for new and better ways to hear what the entire community has to say.

I agree with the Anonymous comment above (#75). I too visit nearly everyday and enjoy reading comments, but I don't feel like joining b/c I don't ever leave comments. I was also upset with the citizen/dear/giggle merge (I really miss giggle) and glad to read that others felt the same way. There are a lot of good/funny comments about anonymous comments, too, but it seems like a lot more hating is coming from the registered people than non-registered people. Why not FIRST see how well the anonymous comments are managed and THEN complain if a bunch of crap shows up? (Not trying to start trouble. Just voicing my opinion.)

I love that the Sugar Staff Member said what we thought they would. Which just goes to show they don't actually care about what we have to say.

Hoping not to be blasted here... I visit this site almost every day. I am not a member and have no interest in joining (simply because I don't want to join every little thing on the internet that strikes my fancy). I would like to make a comment here or there but obviously haven't since I don't have an acct. I can see why members would be upset but just wanted to chime in since I consider myself a perfectly "normal" person that could anonymously add occasionally interesting comments. Not sure if that is worth all the backlash though. I'll be back tomorrow to see what's new. Thanks :)

why do we need more readers to chime in? if people really feel the need to let their opinion be heard they can register, or go to another site where they can post anonymously. the thing that made this site unique was that it had a community feeling. now things that feeling is slowly going away. i dont know...i hope this will be for the better in the end, but right now i just really dont see it, and i dont think the rest of us do either

Regardless, I agree with everyone who previously posted. This is a terrible idea. 71 comments and the only one reacting positively to the change is a Sugar staff member.

No pop nooo. This is completely ridiculous. Pop felt like a nice and safe community where you knew most people, built up your profile, earned your status etc etc. It was one of the secure trustworthy sites where u felt priviledged to be a member But now...the site no longer interestd me im sad to say..thid site was my homepape because i was addicted to it. Ive been a member for nearly 2 years and ive just watched it decline. Its quite sad. The lost aof a community. This site was the elite, now i agree with someone who said its now going backwards. Booo :(

I have to admit, POP has changed and not for the better. Ever since (and maybe a little before than) this new layout I've been turn off by this site. I comment less and the overall friendly community feelings is gone. I miss Dear so so much! And Giggle made my Fridays a little special! lol - Tres is just not cutting it! I dont get Tres. This new anonymous comments feature is a bad idea. I think registered members have stuck around because it was members only, and for the most part stuck to the rules. Because these site have been for members only for so long how come we dont get a say? I mean pretty soon this place is going to choas and Im not sure I want to be around then, Please rethink this, and listen to your loyal members.

The endless number of fangirlie, stupid anonymous comments (or at least 98% of them) is already giving me a headache. It's taking quite some time to find the interesting comments and posts between all the anonymous nonsense, the roll-over ads and the uber-lengthy chips ads. :oy:

oh no pretty soon everyone is going to start shouting "first" at every item. I hate that. The good thing about popsugar is that it's a community, where you see the same people commenting on a regular basis en you feel like you get to know the other commenters. when anonymous people start to post, the group feeling goes away.

This just gives permission for people to hit and run, without real consequences. Just another step in making this site less unique and more tabloidy...if thats a word
