Bea Arthur, Best Known as Dorothy on The Golden Girls Passes Away at 86

RIP Bea Arthur

Bea Arthur passed away today at her LA home with family by her side. The actress best known as Dorothy on The Golden Girls was 86 years old and had been battling cancer. Dan Watt, Bea's personal assistant and family spokesman said, "She was a brilliant and witty woman. Bea will always have a special place in my heart." Our hearts go out to her family and friends at this difficult time.

I seriously shed a couple of tears when I heard the news:( She really was the definition of talent. She will be missed. I agree with GlowingMoo and the timelessness of The Golden Girls. I also think that SATC and Desperate Housewives would not have been as successful without The Golden Girls. This show broke the mold and helped pave the way for female ensemble casts. We love you Bea!

I've just realized that ONE HALF of THE GOLDEN GIRLS are gone now, & it makes watching the show more precious than ever before.-Even though she lived a long & wonderful life, her passing is indeed a shock to me & saddens me greatly. I've been a fan of hers from her "Maude" days to the "Golden Girls"... No matter what, I always knew if I watched her perform, I was guaranteed to laugh out loud.-My sincere condolences to her family & friends over her loss; she will be missed.

It's nice to see so many other fans of The Golden Girls! I'm a huge fan of the show and can't imagine a time without it. It really is a timeless show, and still funny as hell 20 yrs later. Bea Arthur will be dearly missed!
