Dec 13 2013 - 2:18pm

This was a memorable year in music for so many reasons, but we were especially excited about some of the emerging and on-the-rise artists we had the chance to meet and see perform. MKTO stopped by our studios to give us a preview of their upcoming album, we sat down with Grammy nominee Chrisette Michele just before the award show, and we joined Scooter Braun's latest protege for a private sneak peek behind the scenes at her preshow rehearsal.

Read on to discover some great new music — whether you're a fan of country, pop, rock, or R&B!

We caught up with Chrisette Michele who was at The Universal Music Group Showcase '13 presented by Samsung. Chrisette told us about her new album and hopes for future records!

Watch MKTO Perform Their Summer-Ready Single "Thank You" and Talk Their "Unique" Sound

Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller first met as costars on the Nickelodeon series Gigantic, and it wasn't long before the onscreen best friends struck up a creative collaboration behind the scenes. The pair joined forces to form MKTO, a musical duo blending pop and hip-hop. Their first single, "Thank You," cracked the Billboard Top 40 and made a splash around the world. The pair stopped by POPSUGAR Live! to perform an acoustic version of the track as they put the finishing touches on their debut album, which is due out on Columbia Records soon.

You Have to Hear Scooter Braun's Latest Singing Protégé

Tori Kelly may have become a star thanks to YouTube, but in no way was she an overnight success. The singer, who blends soul, pop, and R&B in her heartfelt songs, was signed to a record label at age 12. Since then, Tori has appeared on both America's Got Talent and American Idol, but she truly skyrocketed to fame last year when she uploaded her cover of Frank Ocean's "Thinkin' Bout You." Today, the video has been viewed more than 17 million times.

We caught up with Tori this week just before her show at LA's Fonda Theater and as she prepped to hit the road for her first tour in support of her newly released EP, Foreword [1]. Watch for our exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of her preshow rehearsal and to learn more about this breakout artist's "personal" songs and musical idols. Even Justin Bieber [2]'s manager, Scooter Braun, is a fan!

Meet Brett Eldredge, the Cutest New Country Star

Good-looking country singer Brett Eldredge is having a very good year! His debut album, Bring You Back, was released in August and shot right to the top of the iTunes country chart. We spent time with him backstage recently at a gig in NYC, where he told us all about his music and what it was like touring with Taylor Swift [3].

Quadron's Coco O Invites Us Into the Recording Studio and Recalls a Tipsy Meeting With Jay Z

Quadron's second album, Avalanche, takes the Danish duo's unique penchant for soul-inflected, danceable songs to a new high with feel-good tracks like "Hey Love" and "LFT." The group relocated to LA on the heels of their first CD, and that's where we caught up with singer Coco O in the studio as she prepped the vocals for their new collaboration with Rhapsody Radar [4]. The program, now in its fourth year, spotlights some of the best new, emerging artists with exclusive content like remixed tracks, performances, and interviews. Join us for an exclusive look behind the scenes at Coco O recording vocals for Quadron's RR remix and to hear what she had to say about working with Jay Z and Pharrell Williams, why Michael Jackson [5] is Quadron's biggest inspiration, and the music that's currently serving as the soundtrack to her life.

Is This Indie Rock's Most Adorably Chic Couple?

Meet Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith from The Naked and Famous — perhaps the most impossibly lovely and well-spoken couple in indie rock. Their band's smash single "Young Blood" blew up on the radio as well as hit shows like Breaking Bad, and now they're on tour promoting In Rolling Waves, their second album. We asked Thom and Alisa about everything from what shapes their sound to which famous people they want to see naked (we had to!), which led to a discussion of how their band name is misleading and why they won't be taking any "tragic" selfies.

The Band Behind the Hit: American Authors on "Best Day of My Life"

You may have heard the hit "Best Day of My Life" getting the cover treatment on The Voice or in the trailer for Delivery Man, so it's time you learned more about the superfun dudes behind it: American Authors. We talked to the foursome about their mutual love for Duck Dynasty, what actresses they want in their music videos, the origin of the band's name, and more — so check out our interview to get in the know with indie rock's latest up-and-comers!

Get This Cool, New Female Artist on Your iPod Now

Musical artist ZZ Ward has already been compared to the likes of Adele and Aretha Franklin, and she's been touring to promote her new album, Til the Casket Drops. (You may have heard some of her songs on Pretty Little Liars, Nashville, and MTV's Awkward.) ZZ talked to us just before a concert at the famed San Francisco Fillmore about her influences, what it's like to perform on stage, and what her newfound fame is bringing her. Take a look at our interview, and watch as she jams out on stage.
