Don't Get Too Upset About Beyoncé Allegedly Singing About Jay Z Cheating

Beyoncé refueled speculation that Jay Z had previously cheated on her when she altered the lyrics to her 2006 song "Resentment" during the couple's On the Run concert in Cincinnati on Saturday night. The song, which is about a woman talking about her cheating lover, originally said, "Been ridin' with you for six years why did I deserve/ To be treated this way by you," but Bey changed the six years to "12 years." Other lyric changes include changing "I gotta look at her in her eyes and see she's had half of me / How could you lie" to "I gotta look at her in her eyes and see she's had half of me / She ain't even half of me / That b*tch will never be." However, this lyric change is nothing new, and Beyoncé has been performing the song with the altered lyrics (minus the year change) since at least 2012.

While Bey made the lyric change, the song wasn't originally hers and was actually initially performed by Victoria Beckham, of all people, in 2004. Still, Beyoncé and Jay making veiled references to cheating lovers in their songs is nothing new. Bey's 2006 hit "Irreplaceable" (also off of the B'Day album, like "Resentment") drew a lot of attention from fans who felt that it was written about Jay Z cheating on Beyoncé. Jay himself also stirred up cheating rumors in his 2013 song "Holy Grail" where he mentions "taking back" a woman who cheated on him — although the "her" he could be referencing could also be fame. Either way, Beyoncé's lyric change is likely not a sign of any current trouble with the couple as she has been sharing adorable photos of the pair backstage during their joint tour on her Tumblr.
